00Hey everyone, I'm Josh Radner and I am so excited to tell you about how we made your mother a rewatched podcast looking back at how I met your mother And I'm here with Craig Thomas who co-created the show along with Carter Bayes. Hi Craig! Hey Josh, somehow it has been 20 years since the show premiered I'm gonna check the math on that 10 years since it went off the air And we thought that made this a perfect time to look back, see what the hell we did and why the show still seems to resonate with fans around the world today Follow and listen to how we made your mother wherever you get your podcasts There's calves and there's NBA news that happens while you at work, basket and filth, with day mornings starting at 10 The lead coming up in just about 15 minutes here, Nick and J.P. back with you, but I do want to get to the spring training report brought to you by Northeast Ohio fence in deck and Quinn Legal associates here as it was announced as we are getting closer and closer to opening day to day that Tanner Bible

05He's been named the Guardians opening day starter This is a second opportunity to do this, but actually the first one to make because he was scratched last year after falling ill I know that Tanner has been slightly better than Gavin Williams This spring training Gavin was like twice the picture that Tanner was last year Well, the second half in particular Yeah, I mean if you take a big picture look and again, I know war Differentiates from one website to another Then Gavin was at like 3.8 on baseball reference and Tanner Bible was 1.1 Yeah, I really was it was the second half of the season for Gavin where he was just awesome But Gavin's stuff is just that much better like I always like Tanner Bible I appreciate what he does the idea that they were able to get him to 94 95 in general. I think has been very impressive But he's not he doesn't have Gavin Williams stuff. Yeah, and it so it's interesting It is always felt like whoever This has kind of been given to your ace not always the leader of your starting rotation like your ace

10Yeah, and it feels like in this case and maybe it's because he also was under contract long term It feels like in this case They went more with a guy who's maybe the leader of the staff the long term piece of this rotation Then the guy who I think is the rightful ace in Gavin Williams It's not just the stuff. He just he has he has his transition to another level at least on a one-year basis Yeah, I mean and again, I you know, it just is what it is. I mean I don't necessarily think Gavin Williams is like insulted by this I Tanner Tanner being named opening day is not I don't think it's a controversial thing. It's not who I would have chose But I don't think it's the worst thing in the world either. I think there is more of a I don't say I Don't say a competition between them, but I think they're both really competitive guys Tanner has talked about how Driven he is to be the best starter they have before I think Gavin is kind of alluded to it. He hasn't been as outright as Tanner has I'm in and it's very likely to be healthy competition. I just think it's a really interesting decision

14I would it's one of 62 I one of 162 rather I would rather Gavin Williams be the opening day starter I think it is a significant deal. I think you should award the guy with a better year last year and who overall is your better picture Fan graphs actually does have Tanner having a better year last year which is interesting how much better by half of a war Half of 1.6 may 1.9 to Gavin's 1.4 but I guess that what I would focus on I would focus on the second half of the season for Gavin Where Gavin was in my opinion a I mean Gavin was really really good for like I don't know the last 10 starts of the season somewhere in that stretch Maybe I'd focus on that a little bit. All right guys. That was the spring training report brought to you by Northeast Ohio. You're very confused by that No, no real quick. This is the the spring training report brought to you by Northeast Ohio fence and deck and Quinn legal associates I'm confused at how That two people using the same idea of a stat that their idea of that stat can differ so greatly. What do you mean? You said the difference between Gavin Williams and Tanner Bobby's war last year from

1910 was 1.9 and then and then Gavin was 1.4. Yeah, I just I think that's part of why people who are like traditional baseball fans hate the nerd stat community Because it's not consistent at all. Yeah, I mean Tanner Bobby on and again, this is this is baseball reference. It's Yeah, I wanted to like hit on this because I do think it's so fascinating to me is how somebody can like like they they very greatly And that's why half the community uses one and half the community uses another and what they what they have as far as the Strengths between the two I find incredibly fascinating as well. I find it annoying And I wish all the nerds would get on the same page. Yeah, so they didn't have to go well fan graphs has well baseball Reference has Work your bleep out. Yeah, okay. Okay. It's actually what it is honestly is because then you even have 20 stats And nobody can agree on which of the five of the 20 stats They should actually judge baseball players off of either well. I know I know and so like I know like fan graphs For instance, I always cared more I don't want to get too deep in the weeds on this

21But they've always cared more about your ex-fit, which is part adjusted and everything else in between and like you know at Baseball reference doesn't care as much about that but it is it is interesting that because Gavin waves you're right. You're not wrong Like baseball reference has him having twice plus the season that fan graphs has him having and that's just kind of a It's a wonky little thing, but I will say It's why don't listen to a fair amount of baseball podcast because one guy will be like well his ex-fit is and the other guy Will say is completely different stat is and then they argue stats and I would rather step on a Tarantula really that that that angry huh or not angry that that just you just don't like it not for baseball Yeah, I think baseball is a great I think I think baseball is the perfect balance of the right numbers Which again nobody could agree on and just what do you see like like the eye test I honestly think the eye test and the idea of the eye test germinating in baseball Because I think I think everybody's eyes see something different and I don't think anybody's terribly wrong

25Meaning like you can you and I can watch on Hill Martinez play center field and come away with different takes on it Yeah for sure But I do think for stats I think we should all agree on them all agree I'm not saying you and I I'm saying The nerds like which one guess I find this funny because like I you I mean obviously I like numbers and I like stats It's part of I want to like about sports is that part of it, right? But I think it's funny how even like talking NFL We've kind of had to in the time we've been doing this come to the ones we agree upon we like and the ones we don't and like if I know you Don't like for instance pass a rating I won't bring that to a conversation because I know it does nothing for you I wish you would though It's funny because I have to like read that out and I'm sure you do the same thing for me where it's like all right Which ones is he actually going to take serious in this discussion and then we have our own little world that then we kind of get to in In regards to that so if I said I hated all stats you would just stop we probably I bring like a tenth of the stats that I used to bring to the table

26When it comes to that like I used to bring a lot of different numbers of the table and stats and things to back mine up You don't you don't jack with that as well. I don't do I don't do nearly as much of that because I think two people shows with stats gets really clunky Yeah, I think of your solo host I think you can do it like Jake you could just he could just read off baseball reference I think it'd be fine or fan graphs would be fine. I think much like the idea of baseball podcasts of ruin talking about baseball Like nobody just is like hey, who do you like? Yeah, you sure don't want to take it into the idea of like oh I just I like this because this is what the screen tells me either I think that can get obviously awful but also with respect to the idea that you don't want to just be complete eye test guy either You don't want to just be like well my eyes tell me this because your eyes have been failing people in sports for very very long It's for a long time You want to be eye test guy? No, no, I just think proprietary stats have also been failing people forever I think they're both kind of fail you but you got to you have to mix and match and you have to fight with you like that's why I like I like our agreed upon language when it comes to the NFL Which ones you can which ones we like a dot yes we do yeah, but like which ones we can and which ones we can't and then like the moment

31Like if the moment I bring pass or anything I'll go back to that one into a discussion I know that your your white ball just dimmed you're out. That's it. It's over. So I don't bring it to the conversation So one more time Gavin Williams probably should be the opening day starter And I'm sure Stephen vote won't speak to why Gavin isn't and I'm sure they'll downplay it because it's baseball and we don't ever actually speak to what's going on in the clubhouse Because why would you that be intriguing that be really interesting for people Well, you mentioned something about the money though and I do wonder if part of that comes into play I think the contract is 100% behind this And like it is there's a there's a vote of confidence with a guy that you paid a lot of money to last off season in order to go ahead and try to Maybe even just get his confidence back up and to where it needs to be like Gavin left last year on such a high I don't think they're worried about that with him This is a this is a pivotal year for Tanner Bible and I think it is also I think Tanner Bible is wired Very tightly. I'm gonna say he's why very tightly. I think so. Why do you think that is? Because he's he's always the guy that if he has like a good inning seems to be really pissed at himself

31He is he's he's he's kind of had a couple little temper tantrums in the clubhouse as well not not not like other players But like himself when he's where Gavin's like had given up like six in or six runs in an inning And he walks off and you're like I don't think that's face that guy at all I do like that about Gavin it feels like he there's a couple of games we got rocked in the first inning or so and you're just like he's the he'll be alright Big ace energy as I like to call it the lead in five minutes on ninety two three the fan Have you ever felt like you were living just a B or B plus life? It's so dangerous to live that more dangerous than a B minus or a C plus life because when you're living a B or B plus life You don't change it. You think it's good enough? Is it? I'm Susie Welch I host a podcast called Becoming You People think okay and A plus life is not available to me but there is a way We are all in the process of becoming ourselves listen to becoming you wherever you get your podcasts
