Sycamore Gap's Future: Public Votes on Art Commission

This iconic landmark along Hadrian's Wall was illegally felled nearly two years ago, and now six artists have been shortlisted for a major commission, using half the timber. Two men were jailed last July for more than four years each after cutting down the tree, which had stood there for over a century. People across the UK felt a deep loss, as the tree became a symbol in movies and a spot for reflection amid the countryside. The proposals include community storytelling, nature-inspired seeds, pigments for art, and interactive events to honor its memory. Voting starts this Saturday, March 14th, and ends on March 28th. It makes up 30% of the choice, with experts handling the rest, expect the winner this spring, and the artwork ready by 2028.
