Unless they were going to win in dramatic fashion. Not that I have a dog in any of these fights,

3:07but this is not where I want to start because you know how much I love you. You know how much it's going to pay me to do this, Husker Nation. It brings me absolutely no joy to point this out, especially not after the first 39 minutes of Nebraska Iowa great game. Everything about that was great until that last minute. It was a great game, but nobody's going to remember anything from that really great game except for the four on the floor incident, the four on the floor. And I still have no idea how that could possibly happen. I have no idea how that was possible. How is it possible to only send four dudes out coming out of a timeout no less? And not just any time out huddle. A timeout huddle in a one possession game in the final minute of the sweet 16 where they shot to go to the elite eight. That is about as brutal as it gets.

4:08That simply cannot happen. That cannot happen. And yet somehow it did happen. Marcus Lawrence, you put all that look at this pass. Oh my goodness, full garris. Full garris. Full garris. To quote Adam Rank, not him. Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. Not full garris again. Why is it always full garris? Why is it always Ghana and full garris? Why do we always give a full garris? Why is it always this guy? Amen. That actually is hard to watch back. That's hard to watch back. And I still do not understand how that's even possible. And of all the teams and of all the coaches, I hate that that happened

5:11to the Huskers. And I hate that my man Fred Hoyberg was right in the middle of that. I hate that that's the way their season ended because that was just the best season. The best season in the history of Nebraska basketball. The best season in program history just ended like that. Now at least my dude Fred, he owned it after the game. Of course, he had to. He had no choice. It's nobody else's mistake, but his. It's nobody else's mistake to own, but his, but at least he did own it. Did there were four players on the court? Like you say what happened? Oh, it's the best. I have one minor in that. You know, put that one on me. It was a miscommunication. And you know, I'm the head coach, put that one on me. Question Robyn, I've never been in a situation like that. I know they always count to make sure it is not six. I don't know the rule on that with with four, but yeah, I mean, again, we it was a miscommunication and, you know, unfortunately, it happened, but that, you know, as far as the rule, I've never been a part of anything like that.

6:12So. Like I've never watched anything like that. So I believe that. Fred has never been a part of anything like that because I've never seen anything like that. But my dude, you don't know the rule. Of course, you know the rule. The rule is no more than five guys on the court. There is no rule against having four. That's why the ref show did not hold up the game and bail you out until you to put a fifth player on the court. Like you know me, I'm no fan of the ref show. I am no fan of the ref show, but the ref show is not there to bail you out in that situation. It's not the ref shows job. I mean, maybe if they want to, maybe if they want to help you out, but it's not their job to help you avoid historic gaps. It's not the ref show to say, hey, hold up, hold up. There's only four out there. That's on you. And unfortunately, it's horrible, but that's not on anybody other than Fred and nobody else. Certainly not the ref show.

7:16Now that said, that said, and that was not easy to see or rewatch or have to say, but that said, I do not want to shore change Ben McCallum for yet another absolutely incredible coaching performance in Iowa should get all the credit in the world for capitalizing on Nebraska's mistake. Just like they capitalized on that bad full court press, did Florida try to hit them with that didn't work either. If you give these dudes a crack, they're going to bust down that whole damn door. And when Iowa gets their foot on your throat, when they get their boot on your throat, they don't mess around. They finish. They stomp you out. They do what you're supposed to do when you get a boot on somebody's throat. Their killers like that. They finish the kill. And that's why they're incredibly remarkably, almost miraculously in the elite eight for the

8:16first time since 1987 with a first year head coach who also come to find out happens to be softball guy. He told me so when he came on the show this week. And apparently also at halftime when they were getting out played and they trailed, he lit them up. My man Ben McCallum softball guy, though, does not get all the credit. Lots of it, but not all of it. I also have to shout out that dude. Ben it. Ben it. Ben it starts for real. I said yesterday, did he would show up big because he had not shot the ball well of late at all. But there was no way that would last. No way to do that good was not going to get his and get it on a big stage. And sure enough, this dude shows up and shows out right on cue. Oh, and while he may not dominate every single minute, he does play every single minute. The guy never comes off the floor. Actually, this is such

9:20crazy stat. Yes, dude. Ben it. Ben it has now played all 120 minutes of the tournament, which on its own is just sick. No part time in Ben it. No names mentioned part time Peterson. Hat tip to the big head. But in those 120 minutes, not only is this dude not come off the floor, but he has committed no fouls and only turned it over one time. You think it might be nice having a guy like that around. That is an insane stat. I've never seen anything like that. 120 minutes, no fouls and one turn over. Now, I'm still having a hard time referring to Iowa is a Cinderella. But in a way, they're the closest thing I guess that we have this season. I mean, no, it's not some directional school you've never heard of. It's not some 16 seed knocking off a one. But I'll tear what it is. It's not FAU. It's not Sienna almost doing Duke. But I'll tear what it is. It's a first

10:25year coach two years removed from a D two job with a bunch of mid major transfers making their deepest run in four decades. Cinderella. No, absolutely incredible. Yes. Say what if I'm North Carolina, if I'm North Carolina, this is the dude I'm calling softball guy Dean Smith and Roy Williams all rolled into one. That's me. Now, you can't call Iowa a Cinderella. Just like it's ridiculous to call Texas a Cinderella, even though they were an 11 seed, even though they were one of the last ones in, even though they were one of the first four. But they did not look like an 11 in that tournament or even last night when they push Purdue all the way to the wire. But was it a Purdue push or a nudge or an aggressive box out that actually gave the boiler makers their dramatic last second win. Let's watch and let's talk about this.

11:43My friend has given Purdue the lead a chance at the last shot. It's no God. Purdue. In fact, man, tough, tough, tough way for Texas to lose that game. And I know Texas fan is not happy. Texas fan, I've got to say, I know you think you got jobbed, but I don't think so. In fact, go ahead and miss me with that. The Longhorns played a tremendous game. They had a great run 10 the season, but they came up just short. And it's not again because the ref show missed a shove or an over the back call, even if this slow motion angle is making the rounds all over social media today. If you're watching on the stream, personally, I do not have a problem with this. This looks to me like one dude out muscling another dude for the most important rebound of the year. The ref show actually did the right thing by letting them play and swallowing the whistle right

12:43here. I know Texas. I know Longhorn fan. I know that's hard for you to watch. I know you don't agree, but you can't put that one on the ref show. Purdue just got it done in the clutch when they had to in the final moment in the final second. So credit for that win. Texas had a great year in the end. They didn't finish year well, but they finished really well up until that moment. And no shame in that. Unfortunately for Purdue, they're running headfirst right into a buzz saw because Arizona is up next and Arizona is not messing around at all right now. Arizona is here to win this whole thing. That much is obvious. And right now to me, they look like the ones to beat. We'll see what happens tonight, but right now Arizona looks like the ones to beat. They were dominant. Absolutely dominant. On both ends last night. John Calipari said it best. He said it very simply after the game. And I could not agree more. Arizona is just really, really good. Arizona is really good. And if they shoot

13:47the ball that way and do the things they did today, wow. He's right. He's right. They are really good. And there's really really nothing else to say. They're really good. And when they shoot the ball like that, you're not beating them. They're not losing. They are really, really good period. And if they shoot the ball like that, they're not gonna lose. Let me put you this way. If they keep shooting it that way, they're going to be taking down the nets. 64% from the field in a sweet 16 game against the SEC tournament champs is crazy. That was a laser show. That was a feeding frenzy. That was the easiest 109 points you will ever see scored in a sweet 16 game. 109 against an Arkansas team. Honestly, it was playing its ass off. They were fighting for everything. And they still got blown out. I mean, believe me, no shame in that. They play hard. They play hard.

14:52Arkansas plays really hard. They just were outclassed. Oh, man, they ran into a monster. Counting the hogs had an excellent season. They've got nothing to be ashamed of. They're just not Arizona. And frankly, I'm not sure anybody is. Now Houston, on the other hand, is kind of tougher to defend than Arkansas or the way they played anyway. If Arizona came out and put on a laser show, Houston, unfortunately, did the opposite. They came out and they put on a brick show and they did it in Houston. They did it at home. You could argue that nobody was set up better for success last night than Houston. But you've never never never performed, but you would never know that watching them. Pretty out of character. I'm not saying that they shot the ball really, really well this year, but they didn't shoot it like that. I'm not really sure what happened because for years and this time of year, Calvin Samson's guys are always ready for that big game.

15:54Maybe it was as simple as Brad Underwood and Illinois happened to these guys. Maybe that's what happened to Houston. So credit to Illinois for showing up the way they did. We know that offensively, they have a lot of firepower, but last night defensively, they put on a clinic. Also, also, there is this. They have Pages kid and he's a story of it. So we all know what that means. Well, we do now. Frankly, I did know what that meant. And so my dude, Jalen Rose, told us what that meant. Oh, that's what that means. He's a story. So you know, he's got to shoot that bitch. Actually, I didn't know that, but now I do. Now I do. He's a story. So he's got to shoot that bitch. So what about petrivich?

How about my man powder powder has come up with the latest explanations and strategies for how to do a tanking this dude. My man, when you get the hell out of the house and get some sunlight, please, please, can you please end tanking? But more importantly, can you leave your cave, get outside and get direct exposure to the sun? Can you at least do that? You would not believe the latest proposals to end tanking. Not that you'll understand them, but you will not believe them. So I'll have that for you too a little bit later on. How about being a major leager, pulling a major league salary only to find out that your parents are siphoning money from you. Allegedly, siphoning is a great word siphon. But then again, it really isn't like I like the word

As you tool around the country, allegedly, as you tool around the country in an RV, actually, I thought it was every parent's job. Isn't there like this unspoken, unwritten contract between a parent and a child that when you have that kid out, but you can address this. You have lots of kids that when you have a child, it is your job to do whatever you possibly can to protect that child no matter what. Nowhere in that contract, the unspoken, unwritten contract, not even in the smallest print, does it say part of your job as a parent is to steal money from your children. Allegedly. Got that story for you. Also, something else I want to get into.

21:18Will Wade returning to LSU? Damn, LSU is just LSUing the hell out of this. There is so much LSU and so much Wade and NC State really upset because they had no idea. There's a piece in the athletic today that suggests that LSU and Wade were talking about this very thing as far back as last summer, but NC State had no idea. And then only a few weeks ago that you had that press or were Wade was getting all belligerent with the media when asked about it. With it being a virtual lock that the Raiders will take Fernando Mendoza with the number one pick overall, watching the tape that you've watched, does it seem to you that he is going to be the franchise quarterback for the Silver and Black that they've been looking for? I tell you what, Roman, what I always say about these guys, I believe, you know, outside of just a couple guys over the years, all of these guys have to prove that they can get better at the NFL level. You know, you have guys like an Andrew Locke or maybe a paid manning that you go, okay, those guys are more close to a finished product. They can step in and if they're the same guy for 10 or 12 years in the NFL, they're going to be great. I'm not sure you see very many guys that are like that, including the guys in this class. Fernando, I like what he did this year. Obviously, they have a really good football team when you watch the tape. It was more about him getting back and delivering to the guys that were open or making good throws than it was necessarily having to process a bunch of information, having to bring his team back over and over again. And so there

34:58are going to be questions for him just like there is everybody else in this class. But I think what you like about him is that he's got, you know, the big, strong body tall guy. I think he's very accurate and his technique is very tight for a tall guy, something that you don't see very often. So it's things that you like, you know, he stepped up big and big moments for his team. You know, that is something to me, you know, that it's hard to teach. And so it's nice to be able to see a guy that when your team needed it in the biggest moments against good football teams, he was able to step up and make plays. But I still have questions. I want to see him when he gets into an NFL offense. And, you know, number one read isn't there. And he's got to work through things. And he's got to process things extremely fast and see some of these complicated defenses. What does he look like? How long does it take him to become that guy? But, you know, it's easy to see why he's going to be the number one overall pick. I think of all these guys, the safest guy to pick in that position of this entire class. All right. So Carter, listening to that and knowing you as long as

36:01I've known you and knowing how many times you and I've done this over the years, knowing the career you've had, I have a question for you. How does anybody ever question you on X? And what do you think when you get this? Because you actually do engage and interact. I'm really curious what your thoughts are. When you see some Randall come at you with something. Well, I mean, here's the biggest thing is that I understand it might be just one person. But oftentimes I respond to everybody because I think, you know, it might be one person. They might not have a lot of followers people are telling me that all the time. Hey, look at this guy. He's got a hundred followers. It's not so much about that. It's about, I understand that there are certain questions that are out there. And so for me, I want to engage and I want to throw those things out there. And I want to let people know how I see certain things. So it's not just about responding to one individual, but it's about throwing out big picture comments or questions or thoughts that everybody can see and everybody can take and develop their own opinions on it. And so that to me is, you know, I don't have a daily talk show like you do. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't do

37:03as much engaging on some of these social platforms. But it becomes my way since I don't have that daily, you know, spot to talk about football, to talk about different things that come up in my process. And it leads to oftentimes to great dialogue with different people. And that's what I really look forward to is the conversations that go back and forth. Not that attacks or your an idiot or, you know, that's a dumb take. But just saying, okay, you know, take me through your thought process. Let's talk about this and have that process. And that's what I enjoy. And, you know, and so I use social media and that from that standpoint more than anything else. Discourse. I like that. Kurt Warner joining us right now. All right. So Tyson Simpson said Wednesday at Alabama's pro day that he believes, quote, absolutely. He's going to be a first round pick. As you would expect him to say, do you share his same confidence given that he started just 15 games, Kurt. And then how much separation do you think there is between him and Mendoza? I think the thing that we all know is that it's quarterback driven league. And when teams need a

38:04quarterback, teams will reach for a quarterback, no matter where the grade is on different guys. I definitely believe that Tyson Simpson is, you know, the second guy in this class because he's got more intrigue than than some of the other guys. You've seen some glimpses of some really good things on tape and you saw him play in an offense that probably of all these guys was the most pro like offense. So he was asked to do things that you say, okay, he's going to be asked to do that at the next level. He's going to have to make that throw at the next level and make it consistently. So you saw all of that. You know, I do think there are questions. When a guy has only played, you know, one season, you know, to me, you're never quite really sure who that guy is. You know, we've seen a lot of guys in the past that have played one season and they've had, you know, really good season for that one year. But then they get to the NFL and it's all sudden it's like, well, okay, you know, a little bit of fool's gold because that one season isn't indicative of what

39:04they are for the entirety of their career. And let me just use some NFL guys. I mean, how about Jayden Daniels? You know, his first year, incredible, you know, MVP conversation. Second year, not as good. So now I go into his third year going, okay, who is Jayden Daniels? Is he year one Jayden Daniels for the most of his career? Will he be year two? Will he be somewhere in between? And so that body of work starts to level itself out and show us who these guys are. CJ Stroud, another guy in his first year, unbelievable, you know, rookie of the year and all of those things. And then he's taking a step back these last couple years. And now we're starting to wonder, okay, exactly who is he going to be? And then you could use Bryce Young the opposite way. You didn't play very well. He got benched. Now he's come back and he's played a lot better football. And now we're starting to wonder, okay, can he can he improve and will he be a better version of what we've seen through the rest of his career as he grows into this? Because we've seen that growth. And so I think a body of work really helps us to fine tune. Okay, now we've seen enough

40:10to say this is what a player is. This is maybe where he needs to work or improve or what he isn't. And that's what's really hard when you have a guy that's played one year, and especially like Ty Simpson, where he's had some really good moments. And then some not so good moments. So you you draft them and you go, well, I see the potential. But who are we really drafting? Who is he really as a quarterback? Because we haven't seen enough, you know, over time in different situations to really say, okay, I can definitively say this is who he is as a player. And that's going to be the interesting thing in the first round or wherever Ty Simpson is back. Kurt Warner joining us. Sorry, Kurt. So quickly, what about Carson Beck? He's the opposite, right? He played six years of college ball, went to the national championship game. As you look at his tape and you see what he brings to the table, does he strike you as somebody who could be a long-term NFL starting quarterback? Or is this a wait and see thing too? Yeah, you know, beyond the top two, I think there is a bunch of guys in this draft that were good college quarterbacks. But I don't know if they're going to be

41:13NFL starters. And we can start with Carson Beck is that I really like a lot of things that I see on tape with Carson Beck. He's played a lot of football. He's played at a high level. He's played against the best players in college. He's done a lot of really good things. But you know, I sit back and watch him say, does he have that something that it factor in whatever that is, whether that's you know, the mental ability that he brings because I know my son's actually been training with him and talked about smarty is, you know, and understanding the game. You know, physically, he throws the football. It's almost effortless. But does he bring that upside in terms of, you know, making special throws and making special plays? And so I think a lot of these guys will be really good backups for a long time. And then they're going to have to prove like a guy like Carson Beck is going to have to prove I can be a starter. I can be an every down starter. I can be a decade long starter for a team. I'm not sure there's a lot of teams out there that will look beyond the first two and go, Oh, I'm bringing this guy in to be my starter right away. I think all

42:18of them are going to have to prove something probably come in in a backup role and either stay in that role for a long time and be really good or prove that they've got something, you know, and again, I like to use like Brock hurting, you know, come in, okay, we're expecting him to just be a guy on our roster and a backup guy prove it to us that you belong as a starter and then you get elevated and you get a chance to do something special like Brock has done.
