Swans' Curnow Needs Time, Grundy Adapts to New Rules
About this episode
Sydney Swans coach Dean Cox acknowledges new recruit Charlie Curnow needs time to adapt to the teams style following a quiet performance against Hawthorn. Curnow, who scored two goals in the first quarter, struggled afterward with no kicks and just three handpasses. Cox emphasizes consistency and play-reading as areas for improvement for Curnow, who is still adjusting to his new environment. Ruckman Brodie Grundy also faced challenges with new rules, giving away two free kicks for crossing the center line before engaging opponents. The Swans lost possession badly in the second half, but Cox doesnt blame the defeat on missing stars Errol Gulden and Isaac Heeney due to injuries. The team now prepares for a sixteen-day break before facing West Coast in Perth, with Cox remaining confident in his squad despite the first loss of the season.

From the Daily News Now Network, this is Corey, with the story, with Sidney News today. Sidney Swann's coach Dean Cox admits new recruit Charlie Kerno needs time to settle into the team style after a quiet game in their lost to Hawthorne. The Swanns fell short by 17 points 99-82 at the MCG on Thursday night. Kerne started strong with two goals in the first quarter, but was shut down afterward, managing no kicks in just three hand passes. Kerne had shown promise earlier, booting three goals in the season opener against Carlton, and none in the win over Brisbane. Cox says consistency is key, and Kerno is still learning to read the play and compete hard of the ground. It's early days for the former blue in his new setup. Cox also noted Ruckman Brody Grindy is adjusting to new rules, giving away two free kicks for crossing the center line before engaging opponents. Grindy sorted it out after a halftime chat, but it's a work in progress after similar issues last week. The Swanns struggled in the second half, losing possession badly at 89-57 inside their forward 50.
Cox wouldn't pin the defeat on missing stars, Errol Golden and Isaac Haney due to injuries. Haney should return soon from a hamstring issue, but Golden faces four months sideline with a shoulder problem. Sidney now gets a 16-day break before facing West Coast and Perth. Cox remains confident in his squad despite the first loss of the season. This episode is brought to you and partnership with our sponsor. Headphones in a pillow, once you try it, it just makes sense.
