Suspected Arson at Whelley Labour Club

0:00On April 10th, police and Wiggen are treating a fire at the old Welley Labor Club as suspected arson after win-up and flames on Wednesday, April 8th. The blaze hit the empty building on Northumberland Street in the Welley area, pulling in crews from greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. Shortly before 5pm, firefighters rushed in with several engines and hose reels to battle the flames. They got it under control pretty quick, scaled down the response, but stuck around to make sure everything stayed safe. Videos hit social media fast, showing massive flames and thick smoke billowing out, visible for miles around. The area got taped off quick, and drone shots captured just how intense it was, spreading the word online. The club had been abandoned for a while, with no social media posts since May 2025, leaving it sitting empty. Inquiries are still rolling with greater Manchester police, digging deeper into whether someone said it deliberately, so we'll keep an eye on what turns.
