00Assalamu alaikum and welcome to your Sunday Reef It on Reef Islam. I'm your host, Fazila Isaac, keeping you company every Sunday as usual in our new Ramadan timeslot from 3 to 4 pm as we talk lifestyle, wellness, family and all things in between. Now I'm here to help you step into the week ahead with positivity, balance and good vibes all around. Now at Hamdulillah we have officially cleared the first 10 days of Abaraka fold month off Ramadan. Subhanallah how time eludes us right? Now as we continue to journey through these blessed days of Ramadan many many of us we are striving every single day too fast consistently. We want to make sure that we are not missing out on any of the days of fasting because it does come with ramifications right but the reality is not everyone is able to fast every day.
01There are many people they have challenges, other people they just cannot fast. Now Subhanallah Islam is a religion of mercy and practicality at the same time we are one of the lucky ones to have a dean which is set up in this way. Now some people do have valid circumstances where fasting may not be permissible or possible should I say and this is from the mercy of Allah but with that there's also a few questions that come with it you know like some people ask okay what counts as a valid reason not too fast. What if a fast is broken? How do we make up for these must fast especially if they were broken deliberately right? So some applicable knowledge for our listeners today in shawla we will be speaking to our esteemed Ali with shawla who will enlighten us on this important information. Now later on we take a look at what's happening in a museum see with some quirky and educational
02national days and then our tip of the day. Now as always is going to be an informative and inspiring show so stay with me we're just getting started. Now joining me today and having the delight took the time off to join us today our esteemed guest Mawlana Hussein Mubarak Bonambi to help guide us through this important discussion and advise on the proper jurisprudence the knowledge that we need the fit that we need regarding our must fast. Mawlana As-Salaam wa-laikum wa-rahmatullah. Welcome to your Sunday visit. Mawlana As-Salaam wa-rahmatullah wa-rahmatullah. Thank you for having me. JazakAllah to you Mawlana for taking the time to join us today. So I want to keep right in a lot of us we said you know like I was saying earlier you know this fast that we miss start I'm missing these fast deliberately which you know we cannot condone anyway but then through the mercy of Allah there are some people who have valid reasons not too fast. So just to begin Mawlana
05why does some valid sharia uphold reasons for not fasting during the month of Ramadan? So basically you do get Islam is as you have explained that Islam is Allah Allah that I say is in the same verse of fasting that you read Allah wa-rahmatullah wa-rahmatullah wa-rahmatullah wa-rahmatullah wa-rahmatullah wa-rahmatullah wa-rahmatullah wa-rahmatullah wa-rahmatullah. But Allah what He wants for us is to make things easy for us it does not want to make things hard for us. So you do get excuses that sharia that if the person is on these conditions and a person is cannot doesn't need to fast for example if a person have a tamar like I mean have some sickness whether it's temporally or it's something that is like it's a chronic illness that a person will not fast typical example maybe a person have to take tablets 30 times a day
08and during the day a person they have to take the tablets now when taking the tablets obviously a person need to drink water now for that reason a person will not will be excused too fast will be excused too fast or a person maybe is a traveling is a masafir or maybe a person is pregnant if she feels that if I carry on have carry on fasting in the state it will have a negative impact on my health or maybe a person is breastfeeding also if you're breastfeeding normally you need some energy because the person is suffering from the energy that your person has person feels that it will be hard for me to breastfeed on this state so rana a person stop fasting and another one is that when a person reaches old age 80 up what a person is weak
12person cannot even when a person is not fasting you can see the weakness the old age or a person have reached the state that the person cannot even missing one meal wouldn't be better for him you know you do get people that when they reach the age of actually not even 80 at times 25 a person almost every four or five hours a person need to have something or others they they beat him or something they have to beat his militias a person have to have something to eat like in a short short period or the other reason that will might make a person not too fast Zona person is having severe weakness or they some miracle harm that the the person maybe the doctor the Muslim torture told you that oh it doesn't need to be a Muslim torture doctor for as long as a person cannot is it cannot manage so fast now those are the sharae reason that
16Allah's Hanna wa Dala gave us that if a person is on the on this conditions that a person don't don't need to fast so Molana you touched on something very important there you know the due to illness due to traveling I know some of us didn't know if you are traveling then you are not you it's not necessary for you to fast but with these missing of these particular first what should someone do if they don't mess due to getting sick or maybe due to traveling because of course they have to cover they fast it's not just you know what I'm traveling from job to to urban and I'm not fasting you know obviously because I cannot manage but what happens how do you cover for those or do you just ignore that okay you know what I miss the first is valid for me to miss it so because a person did not fast for that excuse so in the rulings of in the rulings for as long as there is a excuse then a person is excused but as soon as
20the excuse is removed then a person can fast so for example a person was or a starvelling from urban going to Johannesburg now that is a more than 80 kilometers it's obviously it's like a distance of a hemisphere so that person after the outside the month of Ramadan that person will need to make up for the day maybe the female was maybe came back from giving birth or maybe the normal day normal monthly days then outside the month of Ramadan a person need to pay those days by fasting only one day outside the month of Ramadan so you cover day for day if you must one day you need to make a lot of one day yes yes yes so hi now one thing I was just thinking about now so what if you do have diabetes for example right or you do or you are on medication however you are able to at least try should you try fasting first and then think what the outcome would be
26or should you just oh you know what I got diabetes I cannot fast what is your opinion on that Polar? So with regards to diabetes is differ it's differ there are three stages but if on general cases a person must fast because you only take that injection if you are using that injection maybe using it once a day but if a person feels while he's fasting he feels that no I cannot take it then a person needs to break the fast then he will cover it up outside the month of Ramadan so Hanawa and so making up fast is it just a gather because we know there's also paying offidia you know somebody was unable to now do that but if you unable you have a permanent illness so of course you cannot make that there because even out of the month of Ramadan you are unable to fast because this is an ongoing illness that you have an ongoing reason why you cannot like Molana said earlier once you get out or you return from that state for example pregnancy once you return
28from that state of not being pregnant you are able to then make that there but what of those who cannot or they have a permanent illness how do they then cover so basically you get two different kinds of basically excuses right the one is the temporary excuses we have spoke about so that one you'll only do a cover which is fasting one day outside the month of Ramadan and you get the permanent inability the person cannot fast whether it's Ramadan or outside Ramadan for example if a person is an old person and it's not that that was like something that is a temporary but he will be old like that until the day of judgment so for that a person will need to pay fidia I think it's very very important that you mention that Molana because you know we do come across people who they will say they they want to think that the fidia is the easy way out do you not
29mean to come out of Ramadan yes so they they don't want you too fast they would rather say ah you know what Islam allows fidia let me just paint off and they feel like that is the easiest way is there a difference between making up your fast what God and giving fidia so so they the difference between cover and ah fidia so if a person as as we have a extra to explain that if there is a excuse that is not there forever not there to stay it will after some time it will not be found then a person will need to fast but there are no individuals who cannot fast so those people need to make sure that they do pay fidia now if a person can fast a person cannot pay fidia now that fidia won't be accepted it wouldn't even be 10 this fidia because a person have the trucker and the ability to fast
35so how do we how do we then know what is the amount for fidia is it a set amount every molana is it a is does it the first same like how you fitra how do we determine how much we need to pay for fidia and do you need to pay for every single day or is it one bulk amount normally you pay for each and every thing each and every day from the first of Ramadan until the last day of Ramadan so normally you get that post as they come you we see the chairman to the ulama post that I think it was around the 8th round they they do take out those posters or a person can conduct his allen to be sure the exact amounts are estimating I think we'll see it was the 8th rank and a day so that's that's what that's that is what a person can pay so you know you have someone you've mentioned somebody who fast or does not fast for valid reasons but you know some
36handle we can't run away from the fact that there are people who just don't fast for the sake of not fasting you know but we're not we we see this so often we see people who just for the sake of not fasting oh I can't make it because you know I feel tired or I can't make it I'm going to try maybe next year this is the reality so I'm a lot of of in Zan this is this is how it is we do come across people like this so what what is the difference between someone who is or even breaking fast maybe let me also add another scenario right we do have people who also because of our mind we will forget that we are fasting right and then we go as we walk into the kitchen and this mostly happens during the first few days of Ramadan so you go into the kitchen while you busy you take that glass of water unconsciously and now you drink that water so now you've accidentally broke your fast right so what happens now with that person how does that person
44continue do you continue fasting or what is the rule regarding somebody who accidentally breaks they fast let's start with that one so regarding that Nabi Salallahu alayhi wa sallam said that the pain has been raised upon three that the person was mentally ill a person who's mentally disturbed and a person who who who who done something forgetfully so Allah does not make a person who done something forgetfully so if a person goes through the kitchen forgets that he's fasting he goes and drink the tap of water he immediately he when he remembers he needs to stop if he remembers when he went on the mount he needs to try and spit it out and rinse the mount and carry on with the fast you don't need to cover up for it it was Allah subhanahu alayhi wa sallam says like that so we just going to take a quick short and
48when we come back I'd like us to touch on when you do break your fast deliberately so I want to speak about that because you know like I mentioned earlier we do have people who just choose not too fast or even those who just break they fast deliberately would know valid reason they just felt like you know I'm hungry now and they break they fast unfortunately so I'd like us to touch on that now somebody who is deliberately breaking they fast and how do we now move along with that now we're going to do this straight after the ad break mollana please stay tuned the time is 3.29 pm and alhamdulillah you're still tuned into your Sunday reset with me for Zira Isaac and I'm joined by mollana Husain Gubarat mollani alhamdulillah mollana is enlightening us on what happens when we miss any fast in the month of Ramadan we've covered missing fast who is valid it's valid for who to miss fast we've spoken about how to cover with Gavar and with Fidia as well
51Subhanallah now we want to touch on those who break they fast intentionally now mollana if someone does break they fast intentionally without a valid excuse what is required of them mollana are you still able to hear me or I've been put the phone on the mute sorry I speak no problem so so basically with regards to someone breaking his fast intentionally one must understand the the repercussions what like the outcomes that it's very it's something that is not easy to basically close up if a person does that so basically what the person will need to do they need to pay kafara now kafara is actually like more of a major expiation if a person breaks the fast fast intentionally maybe what a person knew that he was remembering that he's fasting
52then he went and ate or a person was remembering that he's fasting and he went and drink water or a person was remembering that he's fasting and he went and had intercourse with his wife or a husband now those things will make it will make it such that a person need to uh uh uh uh pay kafara now kafara is actually in that it's actually of three three stages I wouldn't say stages are other categories that if a person on general cases it will be the first one which will be to free sleeve now frame a sleeve on today's days something that is not applicable because we do not have the sleeves now a person the second one of which applies to us in today's time that a person will need to fast 60 consecutive days now when we when we're speaking about fasting 60 consecutive days we're speaking that a person won't leave one day in between a person will start
57maybe let's say he's starting his uh uh uh uh uh kafara on the 10th of uh uh uh uh july that means on the 10th of August he'll be finishing 30 days and he'll carry one on the uh uh on the 10th of the next month now that is uh that is 60 days without a break in between now if a button while he was fasting maybe on the 59th day he did not fast then he will have to start again now it's no longer kafara it's no longer it's no longer consecutive now they need not be spaced in between it's need to be 60 days flat now you do get the uh you do get individuals that for example a old person person eight years old a person cannot even uh stay for a few hours uh maybe he's old but now fasting is trying uh now those people they need to feed 60 uh poor
05individuals with a staple meal now you do get a staple meal you know what makes normally a person will make a person full you you feed 60 people so feeding the 60 people you feed 60 people what so you make one meal you feed 60 people is that is that how it is yes yes you six you you feed you feed 60 individuals uh once one off now this is mind you this is for the for a person who cannot fast to the 60 days which are a reason also not a person who's healthy just you have not yet you know when you say you will feed people know you need a person cannot a person need to a fast for 60 consecutive days um so panela you know this reflects the seriousness of deliberately breaking the fast you know but also with that we see one of the important parts that we see from
09the is that coming back is still possible you know Allah continues to show us his rahmah is continuously bringing us out of situations that we always feel like there's no coming back and this is one of them however looking at how how deep bringing back fast the qafarah is you know the see it's serious form of compensation it's not something that's easy you know but um if I'm sure that panela it doesn't close the door up and shake panela we always getting parts right back onto the right part of islam hamdulillah but it's also a warning it's also you know the seriousness of qafarah and what you have to do for qafarah it should help people understand that breaking a fast in the month of Ramadan deliberately there's no excuse for it embed our serious implications like mollana has stated earlier in shallah ala sallam ala say bus from this shallah
10and mollana so we have um people who like you say you know a pregnant woman she's a pregnant for only seven days or five days she's pregnant for the entire month or breastfeeding breastfeeding also takes a lot of time so of course she's going to accumulate more fast that she has missed now if someone you know has to miss many fast maybe from previous years also some people they have got that from previous years and now it's just banking and banking and banking and before you know it your fast is 50 that you owing or 60 or whatever the case may be so if someone has missed many many fast from previous years and now you're coming into the new Ramadan where should they begin with covering up the qafarah for that now so the best thing that a person can do is start immediately immediately when Ramadan finishes staff people when they visit fasting
12for shawal you start using this those days for the for making up your missed fast and it also not the the person who seconds of consideration like for pregnant females it will be only after four months not less than only after four months it will be taken so consideration or if a person cannot start immediately and make up those days maybe a person can fast gradually maybe start to like Mondays and Thursdays Mondays and Thursdays not training with the intention of the Sunnah first of because you cannot join the intention of Farad and Nafi but if it was nothing you want but for Farad you can only keep it as that intention of Farad a person maybe can take Mondays and Thursdays that this week and count that and be done by this day if a person wants to do them once of all maybe starting from Monday maybe missed five
15starting from Monday if you want Farad I personally feel that is best actually if a person starts immediately after Ramadan it becomes easier because a person just came out from Ramadan that that that that that feeling of Ramadan is still there rather than outside Ramadan because they might be the environment might even change also outside the month of Ramadan and one of what is someone passes away Molana and they also have Gavar how do we deal with this is they anything the family maybe can do on the behalf perhaps because we have this a lot of times you know unfortunately someone you know returns from Allah SWT and at that point we know that we are away this person has Gavar does it follow with them or is it something the family members can do on the behalf now what what what a person must be basically a person if he missed fast one is that a person must understand it is something that you owe him hands we are advised
18whatever we owe him we need to pay it as soon as possible if someone knows that someone was paying maybe he can pay he can pay for for that person for those days that missed pay for those days that are missed and Allah SWT actually likes Nabis Allah the sallam says Allah SWT loves those actions that are done consistently even though they are a minor but a person can carry on slowly slowly try before even reaching the time before even a person taking out one time because we don't know that can come to us anytime before even that a person even things of that a person need to try that immediately a person must try and pay it but if it is no maybe that reached a person before a person pays it off someone
23maybe a friend or a family member or someone maybe a student or someone can do pay those missed fast for for that person by paying free their free free their okay now I give that one and so I have a question that came in regarding women right so I don't know whether it's a misconception or whether it is of course the truth so women so fasting in the month of Ramadan now for example is in the summer month is there any sort of ruling that a woman has to make a partner fast in the same season as when Ramadan to place or can a woman so now we are in summer can she now cover her Gavai in inshallah in the shorter winter months is there any deal with that or is it permissible basically it's upon individual what a person chooses there is not a real rolling with regards to when a person but obviously a people they
28normally choose that which is easier or the days are shorter but if a person can manage when the days are long and no problem but it depends upon the visual what does a person feel that these days whether it's summer or winter that I feel it will be easier for me to fast hmm so I'm just one more question going back to Qafara I know more than a state that when you giving Qafara it must be done by providing something stable for somebody to eat can this be done in one achieve value can you do this using money instead of cooking something can you maybe say you have 60 people and you give them a certain amount of money for them to purchase a certain type of food that obviously is that money is going to be enough for that specific meal or does it have to be that you are feeding meaning you are physically making something or getting someone to make something and physically giving them food so basically you know one is that you get
33something is people the listeners at home I always tell them when they're asking questions asking that people understand the difference between fatwa and dhaka one is the one is the p of Allah and the other is the fatwa that is a permissible or not now with regard to this it will be permissible to use monetary to use money that they trained it a few days they trained but as is to cook and give feed the poor that is the man now this this is what Allah wants now this is this is dhaka what is fatwa is that is permissible to use money or differentiating between fatwa and dhaka is very important it's key it's key because we like like you say well I know you know we like to take that easy way out and say okay here take this 10 000 rep feed the people yet you know as much as it's permissible it is the best does it come with the best of mere or are you just doing it just
39because it I want to get it over and done with this is a panel of having that dhaka you know it saves us from so much I think that was so beautifully said there's a difference between fatwa and dhaka I'm going to start using them so we are learning so much from you today and I think these are such important questions you know that are being asked regarding missing fast in the month of Ramadan and we have come to the end of this thing but I need to ask finally what advice would more like someone feeling overwhelmed or someone who feels guilty about missing any fast in the month of Ramadan so one the first thing I say is that we don't just pay in the month of Allah because as soon as a person start actually to space from shaytan he puts that on your mind so that you can lose mercy and lose hope in Allah tada and another thing
44that you person need to start immediately making toba but understanding toba also what is toba here na daama doba is regret you know feeling that regret that you person this is what happened and I regret it that is doba regret and making firm intention that in shayAllah I will this will not happen again in future and also having that constant like carrying on doing whatever person can do to try and make up what ever person can do starting small obviously maybe one day maybe jumping one day if a person is missing only short one day but now the main where shaytan normally plays with people is when the person broke his fast intention and a person puts it in a person's mind that you can never fast 60 days in Ramadan you cannot fast 30 days now a person you just
49that a person doesn't need to start we know individuals I personally know one alint principale of one terlobeye satafrika that fasted three there was three he made three kefarah he made three kefarah he made three kefarah there was no problem with that but not he was not training them he was separate separate separate so you just need to start and carry on it's hamalah but JazakAllah for sharing such important guidance with us today I think these were such pertinent questions and sometimes people don't know people don't understand it it's important that we bring this to the doorstep of all of our fellow listeners our brothers and sisters in shayAllah so that is better understanding of these things and hamdulillah we had you to guide us
51through this JazakAllah so much mullana for spending this time with us and for granting us from your beautiful knowledge that you have now as al-Hana to Allah grant you all of the best country and JazakAllah for joining us today asya wa alaykum wa la reha listeners that was mullana khusain bubarak and buanambi subhanallah taking us through what happens the different processes the different types of mess fasts in the month of Ramadan what we are allowed to do and what we are not allowed to do how to atone for this as well the member listener Ramadan is not meant to be a burden this is meant to be a mercy from Allah subhanallah you know it comes with his names ahrahman ahrahim it comes with it's a mercy from Allah it's understanding that there's a balance there's a balance between obligation between something that is further and compassion in out deed in Islam and this helps us to actually fulfill our duties with
55clarity and with the peace of mind that we have now to our listeners remember take something from the lessons of mullana khusain if you have missed fasts you know whether it's due to a valid reason or mistakes that you've made in the past remember that Islam always leaves the door open for rectification and for return as well most importantly don't just give up never ever give up on the mercy of Allah anytime you go wrong regardless of what it is that you're going wrong in always make sure you find yourself back on the syrup the most dirty because Allah subhanallah is their way team for each and every one of us hamdulillah the key here is knowledge learn and learn and learn about the learn what is happening learn about your fasting and the more understanding that you have the better we are able to continue to be the best Muslims that we can be in shahwa now may Allah subhanallah first make it very very easy for all of us to fulfill our obligation and also
59to accept our fast mean you know balal mean now let's take a look at what's happening in zanci this week with our what's happening in a zanci segment so i'm happening in the country on the third of march we have world hearing day with world hearing day this day raises awareness about hearing care and the importance of protecting one of our most valuable senses that is our ears are listening now in Ramadan we often focus on what we say right guard your tongue make sure you speaking the correct things however this is also a beautiful reminder to also focus on what we listen to especially now in the beautiful month of Ramadan are we feeding our ears with Quran are we listening with kindness when someone comes to us and tells us something are we listening to things that give us beneficial knowledge or are we listening with noise that just drains us through the
59day now Ramadan reset for the ears might just be as important as one for our tongues as well so today reset your intention is not too late to refocus you've got this as always you have got this and on the foot of march we talk about world obesity day now please this is not about judgment it's only about awareness on that day now if we look at the Islamic aspect of it Ramadan naturally encourages moderation and discipline you know have balance the whole choices gentle portion control at the start mindful eating instead of emotional eating and no it's not easy however this is something we need to take with us like more than I said takwa takwa continue with takwa insha wa it's not about restriction it's about intention so let food serve your body not control it and on the fifth
01of march we have one of our quirky days which is national absurdity day yes it's a day that celebrates the wonderfully ridiculous moments of life and to be honest Ramadan has in the third moments too I mean it's so different from the rest of the year you know you're sitting like five alarms for so whole because you don't want to miss it you want to partake in in in this important and you still although you have so many of your alarm said you still waking up the last few minutes are said in ayyuma's russian if the absurdity that comes with it is crazy also what about preparing a full iftar and after that entire setup that you have you've got the samusas you've got everything and now you only manage to have some water and some casual subhanallah that it sounds creepy but this is how Ramadan goes so remember let's listen as it is okay to laugh at the chaos because joy is definitely not excluded from spirituality and last is the eighth of march where we
05celebrate international women's day so this is from the united nations they always recognize this day it's just a day to acknowledge the strength the resilience and the contributions of women in every sphere you know whether it's in our homes whether it's in communities and just beyond all of that so it's a moment to uplift support and make do after the women in our lives navigating Ramadan while still managing multiple roles in the home and in the workplace as well so whether it's awareness gratitude humor or reflection this week carries reminders for both the heart and the everyday life and with that spirit in mind let's move quickly into our tip of the day and perhaps just a gentle reminder for the week ahead right it's important for you to know your fast before you break your fast okay let me just unpack this really quickly so many people
06only start asking questions after a fast has already been missed or broken this is why it was important to bring this topic to the forefront now so everyone can understand before you can miss that fast before you can go through the entire month of Ramadan understand what are you missing what is happening can I can I not and understand and get that knowledge that comes with it so take 10 minutes today and do the simple Ramadan check-in right ask yourself if I become ill what is my responsibility if I'm traveling do I still fast or do I make it up later if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding which ruling applies to me if I accidentally break my fast what happens then if I deliberately break it what is required because the reality is uncertainty of almost always leads to guilt right but when we have knowledge of something we approach this with calm right so your task this week I'm giving you a task as usual write down any missed fast that you still
08owe make a simple plan to make them up after the month of Ramadan you can ask a a scholar someone who knows and understands this now asking now about your situation so they are able to advise you so once the month of Ramadan comes up is over you are able to then start with your kadas or whatever is necessary for you to make up an aton for these missed fasts right so Ramadan remember is not meant to leave you anxious it's meant to bring clarity and it's meant to bring all of the barnagar that Allah SWT sends upon each and every one of us and listeners that brings us to the end of this episode of your Sunday reset absolutely beautiful as always sitting with each and every one of you let's remember sundays and not the end of the weekend they are the beginning of a fresh week full of opportunity to zakkulahai to our guest for joining me today and to our listeners and especially
