0:00On March 12, Arizona State men's basketball wrapped up their 2025-26 season with a stunning 91-42 loss to Iowa State in the second round of the Big 12 tournament. It came right after an 83-79 victory over Baylor in the opener. The Sun Devil's got dominated from the start, trailing 45-16 at halftime in Kansas City. Just days earlier, against the same Iowa State team, Arizona State had grabbed a 41-37 halftime edge before falling 86-2, 65. This time around, the cyclones flipped the script completely, turning in a masterful defensive effort that shut down the Sun Devil's entirely. The defeat made history for all the wrong reasons. Iowa State's 49-point margin stands as the biggest ever in Big 12 tournament play, topping Texas's 43-point win over Colorado. Back in 2000. For Arizona State, it ranks as their second worst loss ever, behind only a 50-point dropping by Texas Tech in 1956.
1:01Adding to the tough pill, it marked the first time since 2024 that a Big 12 team failed to crack 50 points in a tournament game. Coach Bobby Hurley, who wrapped up 11 seasons with a 185-167 record, learned his contract won't be. Renewed by athletic director Graham Rossini. Now the Sun Devil's head back to Tempe for off-season soul-searching and a key coaching search to rebuild for next year.
