Strong Winds, Cold Snap Hit UK

A yellow weather warning from the Met Office covers Northern and Western Scotland on Wednesday until noon. Greenwich mean time, with gusts possibly, hitting 80 miles per hour in spots like the Hevertes and Orkney. By Thursday, those winds ease a bit in Western Scotland, but pick up widely elsewhere, bringing gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour in many areas, and up to 65 miles per hour near Western coasts. Officials warn of disruptions including cancel ferries, delayed flights, and restrictions on bridges for high-sided vehicles, while most of the country stays dry and bright on Wednesday. Come Friday, colder air from the Arctic rolls in, with north-western winds dropping temperatures three or four degrees below average and sparking. Fast-moving hail or wet snow showers, mainly settling on higher ground in Scotland, northern Ireland, northern England, and parts of Wales.
