About this episode
As a parent, you have a big impact on your child’s health. At the end of the day, children aren’t capable of making well-rounded nutritional decisions, therefore it's your job to do so for them. Although this may sound like a daunting task, it doesn’t have to be. The first step to making nutritional decisions for your family is to set a standard.
Ask yourself: What does eating healthy look like for your family?
If you don’t know what that looks like, that’s okay - but it’s time to set a standard in order to achieve it. “You get caught in a cycle of repetition of bad habits not because you don’t wish to change, but because you don’t have the right standard,” -Ashley Berlin.
When it comes to eating healthy, the environment you’re in plays a stronger role than motivation. Your child may want to eat healthy, but if there are unhealthy snacks in the pantry, their motivation for eating healthy is most likely going to fall to the wayside. The best thing you can do as a parent is get rid of unhealthy food, drinks, and snacks in your house so there’s no temptation. Instead of having chips on the counter for the kids to snack on, put fruits and vegetables out.
We hope today’s episode gave you the tools and resources you need to help your child overcome picky eating habits. For additional healthy family content, listen to our previous episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify & more!
