The National Weather Service confirmed that straight line winds caused storm damage in Winston County, Alabama near Forkville on Monday evening. Survey teams ruled out a tornado and focused on a small area along Highway 195 and Little Crooked Road. Winds hit up to 75 miles per hour, around 5.35 pm, packing a plunge like a Category 1 hurricane. The worst destruction stayed within a 130 yard stretch, hitting structures hard in just moments. Local business owner Michael Thrasher runs a furniture and woodworking shop there, plus farmland around it. His front door got blown out, sealing tiles pulled free, a hay shed flipped over, and a long time cattle shed wrecked. Trees snapped, fences tore down, and roofing flew into the mess. Farther out on Jim Brown Road, only light tree damage showed up miles away, proving how focused the winds were right in Forkville.
