00Should we go left or right? Or should we go up, maybe down, forwards? Is this the moment and is this the time where we actually have to reverse and go back? What should we do? Should we change jobs, change cities, change countries? Should we learn a new language? Should we actually go to that restaurant that we've been talking about now for ages? Or should we just go back to the one we always know of? Or are we even hungry? Should we buy a car or rent a car? Should we buy a house? Should we rent? Should we... What? Should we maybe just become campers and love being a team that makes the road? If we do, which road and which city and... to even light camping?
03Welcome to the Journey to Her Podcast. I'm Em. And I'm Dean. Here we chat about life skills, business, growing and booming. We have to inspire you on your journey to her. Wherever you're here, maybe. Many people ask these questions and they never answer them. They suffer from what we call analysis, paralysis. And they never move like deer in the headlights. They eventually get run over by the hunter's car. And we see it so often. There's so many stories written, so many poems, so many songs. About regret for things we didn't do. One of the most powerful poems that I ever heard in my life and I heard it as a very young man on a training course was about an old man that was dying of cancer.
06And he'd written this poem. And it wasn't a downer, it was an upper. It was a reflect and think about life. And it was about the things that he hadn't done. And how he hadn't eaten enough ice cream. And maybe too many beans. And he hadn't gone on those spur of the moment holidays. And he'd stayed in the wrong job too long. And he hadn't reached out to someone that he hadn't met before. And in our environment where we get to coach people, this is the thing that we say the most. Just decide there is a process for decision making. But once you have gathered the data, just make the decision and do something.
09I recently heard people talk on a podcast or a show about why people struggle to make decisions. One of the ideas around it is that people want things to be perfect. They want the outcome of whatever this decision that they are facing now to be absolutely the right, the correct, the ultimate thing to be. There is this desire in us to be perfect. And we see this so often in our new social media environment where everything is Pinterest perfect and where everything we see and watch is staged and beautiful and clean and organised and just running so smoothly. And this is what we aim for. We want the outcome of each of these decisions that we have to make to just be the right one. Just to be perfect. And if you think about a real life situation, how often have you not sat in a restaurant
11and you had to choose between two meals that you saw in the menu and that you just couldn't decide on and that you thought would really be nice. Knowing that you'll order only one and never really be able to taste it. And then you do have that one particular meal and it is absolutely fantastic. If it's a restaurant you've been to before and you kind of know the standard of the food and the standard of the service, you have a very good idea of what you're going to get and it may just be a taste that's completely new, a dish that you've never tried before, whatever the case may be. But by giving yourself the opportunity to choose, you are going to experience the outcome. And if you never choose and if you always try and go back to a tried and trusted way of doing things, you're never going to experience the different, the change, the improvement, the new, maybe even the better. One of the things that is the hallmark of the people that live extraordinary lives,
16those entrepreneurs that you see that rise to the top, those people that live a life that you would love to live, is that they do and they are not scared of failing because they know they can get up again. There are very few things in life that you will not get up again from. We deal with many people who have been through traumatic experiences, whether health issues, whether financial issues, business failures, career failures, and we all get the chance to try again. And when we say this, this is not hollow talk, we've done it in our lives. We've started. We've succeeded. We've been knocked down. We dusted ourselves off. We got up again. We learned our lessons. We tried again.
19And we haven't exercised the safe options because safe is boring. Safe is mundane. If you want to live an average life, do average, don't do spectacular, don't aim higher. And that's okay. If that is what you want, you want to live the average life, that's great. But if you want to live an exceptional life, if you're not happy with where you are, make the decision today to live a life that's extraordinary, where you suck the marrow out of the bones of life, as Rob and William said in Dead Poets Society. Watch movies that inspire you. Decide not to aimlessly scroll through your social media feeds and admire lives that are curated for the screen.
21Go and be real. If you want to get fit, go out there, join Bootcamp, join a gym. Play Squash. If you want to move to another country, apply for a visa, go there on holiday, see whether you like it. You want to change jobs, put your CV in the market, apply. You're looking for a life partner, put yourself in situations where you're liking to meet them. But make the decision and execute on that decision. Our lives are the result of a multitude of choices that we make and decisions that we execute on. Without execution, there is no result guaranteed. Enjoy your journey to deciding to live the life that you choose.
