Welcome in. Thank you as always for listening to this ridiculous podcast, which I do every day, five days a week. And you know, it comes after the Billy and Lisa show. Once it ends, I jump on here and kind of, you know, sometimes give a recap, sometimes talk about whatever the hell I want to talk about. And yesterday I had McCabe on, and he's going to Harry Styles. He's in London right now. Actually, I did text them. He did not text me back. But he was on yesterday, and I remembered there was a question that someone had wanted to know about him. And I thought it was his name. But it wasn't apparently because you guys love to leave talkbacks. Justin, I think we had one possibly two podcast episodes
09of McCabe explaining how his name is McCabe. Yeah, I should have just wrote it down. There was something, I don't remember what it was. So if anybody knows that listens to this podcast and had asked for a follow-up explanation of McCabe, please let me know. I'm sorry Sarah, my brain's a little mush. But anyway, yeah, he's in London, and I don't know, maybe I'll call him tomorrow with something and check in and see how he's doing. It's a pretty cool moment for him. He's very humble about it. You know, like he didn't want to talk about it on the air, make a big deal about it, because you know, good for you, Mr. Radio guy, I guess the exclusive, but I don't know, I don't look at so much as a flex, you know, it's something that he does work in radio, he works in music, he works with labels, and when Harry Styles had announced a new album, he reached out to the label and said, hey, if there is anything I've never really asked for much, can I get this? And they said, yeah, so good for him. And yeah, we had the Harry Styles listening event last night here. I did not go. It's very hard for me to get down at that time,
11you know, from Salem to Hampshire. I mean, it's just not worth the traffic, honestly. I mean, the weather was bad last night. Anyway, it was snowing, it was miserable out. But to drive down and then back at five, six o'clock, it'll take hours, you know, it'll take literally hours. And, you know, I got to think about my wife and the kids and, you know, putting that all on her plate. If I have to do what it's fine, but, you know, I tried not to avoid it. And also, that's my sauna time. That's the time that I'm in sauna and the ice bath and my whole routine, which I love. I mean, I really do love it. I love having a sauna. I can't believe I have a sauna. It's actually pretty wild. So shout out to New England Spas who made it happen. They're fantastic. And, you know, I never thought that I'd be able to afford the sauna and all that stuff. But, you know, they gave me a little bit of a deal on it and kind of worked out. I worked out how I could be able to afford it. And I'm glad I did because it's super, super beneficial to me, to my health, to my mental health.
13My sleep has improved. It's been, you know, I don't want to make this commercial about saunas. I just literally, we'll talk about saunas and ice baths until, uh, infinity. So, that's all. Today is Wednesday and we have a meeting with the boss. He put that back on the schedule. We'll see how that goes. Hopefully, it's good. I think it'll be good. He's been very happy with the show lately, which, listen, he's the boss. He is supposed to be critical of our show. He is super complimentary, typically, but when things are not going the way that they should, you know, he will come down. He will, you know, bring the whip out and snap us back into shape. But lately, he's been very happy with the show and the flow of it and the content. No, well, the content he loves. He loves the content that we bring. You know, we bring a lot of content, a lot of different things, everything from music to sports. You know, that's, Billy's Entertainment Report covers all that stuff. You know, you don't really find that anywhere else. It's very, it's very like entertainment story. Like read the story onto the next story. You know, we do our, he does his report.
13We give reaction. We give commentary. We give our thoughts and opinions on each story. And it's not just entertainment, right? It's sports. It's entertainment. It could be even like local news, too. Like the Patriots players that were partying up at that restaurant in Boston, right? That was an entertainment. We did 9-10 on it, but we also did it in his 7-10 entertainment report. So we got to meet with the boss after the show today. We'll see what he has to say, but yeah, he's been very, very nice lately. It means a nice guy, but meaning he's been sending a lot of text and messages to me and to us about the show and how good it sounds. And he's happy about that. And the ratings are very good. So we've had some of the best ratings since the show has launched, which feels good. You know, it just, really that just means, okay, so the ratings thing when it comes to radio is super weird, right? The advantage that Kiss-108 has is that people are just used to listening to it. If you grew up in Boston, you know,
14you put on Kiss-108, that's what you do. But these days, there's so many different options, right? Like you could put on other stations. Like Mix, for example, which is a great show is too. Carson and Kennedy love them. Like awesome. And they're doing real, they've been doing really good because, you know, and good for them. You know, like all the years that Matt was here just like raining at number one because, you know, 40 years on the radio of Matt, he was crazy. But when he retired, what happened was we had a whole group of people that loved Matt and they just didn't want, they didn't want what was next. They wanted to go off and see what was there and Carson and Kennedy were there and they got a lot of our listeners. You know, and good for them. Like, thinking about how many years, right? That they were on, doing a show, putting their best in. But, you know, Matt kind of had that, he had that spot, you know. And so when that happened, they were able to benefit from that, which everyone knew they would, you know. And some people left and some people were like, you know, I'm going to give this new show, Billy and Lisa, a try. And they stayed. But the ratings thing goes up and down because it's like, this is what our boss tells us, right?
18People are there, people are listening, they're flipping around. Okay, so they're going from kiss one, oh wait, maybe they go to jam and maybe they go to mix, maybe they go to Spotify, maybe they go to BZ for traffic and news, even though we do traffic. Or maybe just news, right? There's a big story in the news. They move around. It's our job to get them to stay. And that's where the content, how we're delivering the content, that's where that matters, right? We want people to come and stay. That's how ratings happen, right? It's their time spent listening. It's how long they're spending with the radio station, how long they're tuning in. And, you know, that's a big part of it. So, I think we've been doing a good job of that. You know, if we, we can't please everybody and there's going to be content that people don't vibe with. They don't gel with it. They don't want to hear about it. Maybe I push the boundaries too much. Maybe I play something that's like, eh, you know, maybe we do a sex story when kids are in the car. You know, that's, these are things that happen. We try to be mindful of. You know, we try to do more, if we have to do a kind of adult themed segment,
22do that after nine o'clock when the kids, you know, are in school. But let me tell you today, we did the Patriot story, which was a news story. It was trending on bossin.com. We did it at probably 715. And we did get a complaint. You know, there was a woman in the car with her kid. I didn't think it was that bad. We just did the story. Yes, strippers were a part of the story. And she was kind of upset. She called the complaint, which I'm sorry. I'm sorry about that. I didn't think that we really pushed the boundary too bad there. I feel like we have done it done so in a worst in the past. So, yeah, that's it. We're going to meet with the boss today. Then we have a meeting tomorrow with all of kids. A lot of meetings happen. A lot of stuff behind closed doors. You know, that's what we come up with all the, you know, things that we do, right? The secret sound, the talk back contest. We have a lot of great things coming up, leading up to the summer. You know, going into the summer is a big deal. The weather, getting warmer. I mean, we have spring. And then into summer. But this is how far we plan ahead. We plan ahead to the summer. Let me tell you the summer contest.
23Or I should say, spring going into summer is going to be wild. We got a big meeting about that yesterday. So, I don't know, just giving you guys a behind the scenes of what happens at kiss 108. You can always ask questions or have, if you have comments, you can always leave talk backs. I'd love to get those. Like Sarah did at the beginning of the podcast. So, I don't know. I started my training for high rocks this week. If you don't know, I've been doing high rocks. Shout out to Drive Custom Fit. That's the, the gym up there in my house that I've been a member of for several months. I joined there because a dear friend of mine, who I really love, goes there. And I was so anti-classes, because I'm so accustomed to the body building. You know, it's chest day. It's back day, et cetera, et cetera, with some cardio. And he got me to try a class there. And I just fell in love with it. You know, it was called a shred class, which is a heated room cycling. And you know, they have an instructor. There's music. You sweat a lot. But they have several different types of classes. They also have like a lift class.
23They have a C2S class, which is like cardio and lifting. And they have yoga. And then they also have circuit classes. So I started with those other classes first. And then I transitioned into the circuit classes on the weekends on Saturday. So it's basically like an hour long, high intensity, hour straight station to station. Everything from, you know, bicep curls to rowers, to dead lifts, to squats. And it's just, you know, a minimum and a half at each station. So I really fell in love with that. I loved the high intensity, but also the fact that I wasn't getting injured. It was easier on my joints. You know, when you're really pushing your muscles, you know, my body hurts. And I'm dealing with a lot of that, right? I have shoulder issues, my knees, my hip, just from the heavy lifting. And all that comes along with it. So I had life that I got a fantastic workout and did not have to, you know, pay the price for it. So then on Sundays, they have what's called high rocks, which I had heard about, didn't know what it was, but it's basically a fitness race
25where you have several stations, right? It's kind of like circuit, put a lot of running in between. So I started doing the high rocks and I like fell in love with it. I really, really did. So that friend of mine that introduced me to this gym signed us up for a race in New York in May. It's a little, it's nerve-wracking because I don't know if I'll be ready by then, especially with the running. He's going to be training for it too. But I'm going to try, you know? I started the training this week, kind of running and getting used to kind of some of the how do the stations work. So there's eight stations, but there's running in between each one, okay? So I don't know the order of it. I think the skier, if you know what that is, that's the machine you pull down, kind of like your skiing. I believe that's first, but when you start one station, you have to run a kilometer, which is about a little bit more than a half a mile. Then you go to the next station, then you run another kilometer. So there's eight stations. So you have to basically run eight kilometers, which ends up being four miles.
26So the running distance is not that crazy. What's crazy is that you're doing it while strength training in a sense, you know? Because some of the stations are sandbag lunges, wall balls, sled push, sled pull, rower. One of my forgetting burpee broad jumps. I think burpee suck, try a burpee broad jump. You have to jump and do a burpee. So you definitely have to train for it. I think my cardio is really good. The running is really the concern and being able to do those stations while being taxed. From what I'm reading, that's the big thing. You know, you have to train for that. You have to train after you're tired because you never do a station tie, fresh, right? Never. Well, the first station, I believe, I think you might have to run first. I don't know, I'm new to all this, but I believe you have to run first and then do the first station. So you never, you're never doing a station fresh,
27like without doing something first. I believe that's true because I didn't read that. That in a high rocks race, nothing is fresh. So I don't know, I'm just gonna try something new. It'll be fun to go to New York with my friend. We're not gonna try to hit an elite time or anything like that. We're gonna go, we're gonna get through it, try our best, and then there is one in Boston. I believe in the fall. So that would be the one, that would be the target one that I would actually try to go for some good time with, you know. So I don't know, just excited about this next journey in the fitness world, man. If you know me, you know, I love fitness, which is a crazy thing because I never did, right? I didn't walk into a gym until I was 30 years old. I never worked out, I hated it. I had basically given up and accepted the fact that I would never be fit, per se. That I would really always be fat, you know, and then when I joined the gym and I got into it, and it became like an obsession of mine, and you really just make it a part of your life, you know. And of course, because of my mentality and the attic that's in me, I take everything to the extreme.
30But just in a general sense, right? The fact that I go to the gym, you know, not every day, but you know, five, six days a week, it's just a part of what I do, you know. The voice is in my head sometimes saying don't go, but I just don't listen to it. It's like the ice bath voice. It's that inner voice that's telling you not to do something that's gonna help you because it's gonna suck while you're doing it. Like today, I have to go run and I have to do some of these stations and I have to do some chess work because I am doing a little bit of body building work as well, just to like, you know, keep that going. But the voice inside of me is telling me like don't do it, you know, my daughter has, she's a little bit under the weather so she didn't go to school today. So it's easy for me to say I'm just gonna stay home and help my wife with her even though it's okay. I can go home, get her set up and then go for an hour to the gym. So the little voice is always gonna be there. So if you know that voice, it's there and you need to tell that voice to shut the fuck up because if you listen to it, that's not good, right? But if you don't listen to it and you go through with it
30and you get that workout done and you get that ice bath done, oh whatever, apply it to whatever's going on in your life and you get it done, that feeling is the hit, right? That's the hit that you're going for. So I don't know if you do high rocks or if you do any kind of that training, let me know, let me talk back. It's about time to jump into this meeting. Hopefully it's good news. I think it will be, but if not, oh well, we can take the criticism, right? Anyway, I'll talk to you tomorrow, bye bye. This is Julian Edelman from Games With Names. I wanna take a second to talk about something that's personal to me. I've had the privilege of working closely with Robert Kraft for a long time and one thing I've always respected is how seriously he takes up standing up to hate. As a Jewish athlete, my identity is something I am proud of but I also know what it feels like to be singled out for it. That's why this new commercial for the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate that aired during the big game really hit home. It's about showing up for someone when they're targeted
