It aims to tackle pressing problems across the state after lawmakers in the House and Senate fail to agree on a full spending plan. This stalemate has worsened gaps in Medicaid funding and teacher salaries. Stein's plan also covers raises for state workers, scholarships for kids of wartime veterans, and key operating funds for the Department of Adult. Corrections and the state bureau of investigation. On Monday, Stein highlighted the big shift since the last budget, like the state adding more than 300,000 people and living costs. Jumping over 6%, federal pullbacks have added pressure, leaving agencies stretched thin without fresh funding. Last year, the House budget got some bipartisan backing there, but talks between the chambers hit a wall anyway.
