With the NFL today, March 5th, the Pittsburgh Steelers are making moves ahead of free agency. They've released tight-end John U. Smith, marking their second roster cut this week. The decision frees up $7 million in salary cap space and Smith heads to unrestricted free agency. Smith joined Pittsburgh last off-season and a trade with the Miami Dolphins. That deal also brought corner bag Jalen Ramsey while sending safety mink of his patchwork to Miami. He reunited with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith from the earlier days together, but never found his rhythm. In his loan season there, he posted 38 catches for 222 yards and two scores, seeing action on only 52 percent of. Offensive snaps. The team now has just two tight-ends left on the roster, Pat Fryer-Muth and Darnell Washington. Washington missed time late in the year with a broken arm on injured reserve. With cap relief in hand, Pittsburgh eyes more changes as free agency looms.
