Steelers Release Jonnu Smith, Free Agent Status

They had picked him up in a trade from the Miami Dolphins right before last season started. Smith fell short of expectations in Pittsburgh. He finished with 38 catches for 222 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball nine times for 70 yards. A year earlier with the Dolphins, Smith posted career bests. That included 88 receptions, 884 yards and eight scores. The Steelers still count on tight-ends Pat Fryer move in Darna Washington. This gives them solid options at the position moving forward. Now Smith hits free agency after the disappointing stint. Teams might eye his past production for a fresh start.
