That man confirmed the IRA's responsibility, linking the killing to Brian's job at a tough prison holding IRA inmates. Austin Stack questioned why Adams would apologize for the murder if he had no IRA ties. Adams expressed regret on behalf of Sinn Fein in 2013 and called the shooting wrong in a 2016 speech.

The case stems from a civil suit by victims of three IRA bombings in England between 1973 and 1996, seeking one pound. In damages each, they claim Adams directed those attacks while he denies any IRA role and says he just facilitated the stack meeting.
