ST G20/21 - Reds SWEEP Two Split Squad Games vs Giants! Reds Pitching DOMINANT!

0:00Well, hey, what's going on? Happy Saturday, Nick Kirby here. Welcome to Chatterbox Reds. We're daily home for Cincinnati Reds content all spring training long. Well, the Reds played two split squad games on Friday and they won them both. The Reds improved to 11 in nine with the pair of victories and both games came against the Giants who crazy enough have the best record in all of spring training. They entered Friday 15 and three. They are now 15 and five. Reds pitching was absolutely dominant on Friday. Reds pitching has not been very good this spring, but boy were they good on Friday into a pair of night games.

1:03Reds combined for 18 and he's pitched one earned run 12 strikeouts and just three walks. All right. Now let's start off with the game in good year where the Reds won just one nothing. The Reds scored a run in the first inning on an LED of the cruise walk, Ellie then stole second and South Stewart singled him in and that would be the only run of the game as that score would hold up. Brady singer through four shutout innings. He pitched around several base runners. He did allow three hits and two walks, but he struck out two. Singer in his first start this spring gave up five earned runs, but he's been really good sense. He is not allowed a single run over his last seven innings pitch. The slider really good for singer on Friday. He got six whiffs on 12 swings against the slider. Here's what Brady singer had to say after the game. Now I definitely had some traffic there for a little bit, but you know it's good to sometimes figure out how to work out of it. You know it's obviously what spring training is for. Can I remember those situations and figure way to get out of it.

2:08Where are you at right now? I think you get two more starts before the season stretch. Yeah, no, I just throw a couple more there. Yeah, I get up to five innings or so next time and then maybe six and see where we're at, but yeah, that's where I went in and stuff like that. Pierce Johnson just keeps on rolling in the bullpen. He threw a scoreless inning. He's not allowed a run in five innings this spring and get this he has not walked a single better as well. Graham Ashcraft threw a one, two, three inning only needed seven pitches to get it done. How about now back to back perfect innings for Graham Ashcraft. After really ugly start this spring. That is really good to see perfect inning from Connor Phillips 13 pitches nine strikes. He hit 98.7 on the gun. Squirrels sending as well for Zach Maxwell and Hunter Parks. Fetched a perfect inning to close the game out. And now for the Reds offense. There was zero extra base hits from the Reds offense in this win. But South Stewart was on base three times. Yeah, that RBI single in the first that I mentioned also had a pair of walks.

3:14South having a fantastic spring. He's hitting 342 with a 472 on base percentage. And South also stole two bases. He's got four stolen bases this spring. Ellie, the crews walked twice and he stole three bases. Really good to see on both fronts. Ellie had only walked once prior to Friday. He had 41 at bats. No other Marta who's been really hot was 0 for three. Brian Hayes 0 for two. Spenser steer struggling this spring. 0 for three. He's at a buck 61. Tyler Stevenson also really struggling. He was 0 for two. He's hitting just 136. Blake Dunn was 0 for two with a walk. Now there was a bunch of interesting prospects that got into this game, but not really much to show for it. Steel Hall was 0 for one. Alfredo Duno 0 for two with a walk. Hector Rodriguez 0 for three. Rodriguez hitting just 125. He did, however, on Friday, have the furthest hit ball of the day by any Reds player.

4:16Hit about 414 feet. Fly out that he hit 103 off the bat. Now over in Scottsdale, Reds offense a little bit better. Reds beat the Giants 6 to 1. Chase Burns was a starting pitcher. He threw two shutout innings. He only allowed one hit. No walks and struck out two. Now there was some confusion about how long Burns was supposed to pitch in this one. It was originally thought that he was going to go for innings, but as Traggs reported, he was told on Thursday that he had been throwing a lot lately and that he was only going to go for two innings. Not sure. Maybe this is something with an agreed and trying to be a little more cautious. Maybe nothing at all to do with anything, but nonetheless Burns just two innings, but the two innings were very good. He hit 100.7 miles per hour, and his slider was nasty. 5:16I think he had his life ahead four, are you okay? Is it going to leave after two? Yeah, it was just a plan deal a week. I've been throwing a lot, so, you know, it's not my thing to say is higher than me, but yeah, that's it really. Second inning looked like you had a lot of command of a lot of pictures. How did you feel? It felt great. Everything was working really well. I was able to attack with everything and get ahead. It seems like, you know, that was the thing you even wanted to do. This whole spring is, you know, walk ahead, throw strikes. It seems like you've been doing that more and more on your starts, especially this one. Was this one your best one? I'll be a shorter? Yeah, I think so. I think that's the name the game for me is just getting ahead. I can tend to get deep in the counts because of balls, but you get strike one and keep attacking, and you'll have to have that. Kind of what do you want to accomplish in a city screen? Just keep working on my craft, you know. Keep working on my body, mobility, all kinds of stuff. You know, keep working on other pitches that are going to make, you know, the festival slider even better.

6:20What if you like the most about the way your body is responded after each outing? It's bouncing back really quick, so that's good. You know, it's a lot warmer here, so it's a lot easier, but yeah, I'm loving it. I feel great, so. I know you've been careful not to get too far out of yourself in terms of your main goal, which is, as you've said, making the team. Where do you feel like you're approximate to that goal? I have no clue. You know, I'm just taking it one pitch at a time, one step at a time, trying to get better every day, and hopefully I'll see that angle. Obviously, 100 went down. It opened up a second spot. Did you think about the math improving for you in terms of, obviously, you don't want to lose 100, but that's us at a second spot. Now, honestly, I didn't think about it. You know, I wish 100 was healthy. I'm just competing, and I'm trying to want to spot. It doesn't really matter. It's just not true. When did they tell you about the team today?

7:23I think yesterday, it's only just, hey, they've done a lot. It's a little bit lovely. Have they had any discussions about your role where it might be if you do make the team? I think one of the starting positions is one of the starting pitchers, so I really don't care where they put me. I just want to be able to be on the team, help the team win. Are you going to go for the next time or something? I'm sure it'll be more than two, three or four. Luis made through a scoreless sending. That's back-to-back scoreless sending for May. May hit 99.3 on the gun, and he got two whiffs on two swings versus his slider. Lion Richardson, nice day, ending in a two-thirds scoreless. He did not walk anyone. You'll have to see that. How about Hagen Dana? He struck out the side. Dana has only allowed two runs over seven days of spring, nine strikeouts and just two walks. Charlie Goldsmith had this to say Hagen Dana can really pitch.

8:24Upper 90s velocity, a really nice breaking ball that uses a ton. Swinging miss, throw strikes, one of the most fun to watch guys in camp. Dana on Friday night hit 98 miles per hour with his fastball, and his slider got three whiffs on five swings. There's a lot of good sliders in these two reds games on Friday. All right, now for the reds offense. Will Benson was on base three times. He had a hit in two walks, single hit 105 off the bat. Benson hit in 308 with a 471 on base percentage of spring. Not sure much more about which more Benson could do to earn a opening day starting roll. Well, maybe not opening day because they're facing a lefty, but I think you get my point. Nathaniel Low, he was on base twice. He had a double in a walk. Matt McClain, one for four, hit a triple hit 390 feet, 105 off the bat. How about this? Matt McClain has a hit in 11 of 12 games this spring.

9:24J.J. Blade was one for three. T.J. Friedle O for two with a walk. Off the bench, Tyson Lewis had two hits. One of them, a double really good to see from one of my favorite prospects. Carlos Sanchez, he's having a really nice spring in his very short sample. He had a hit. He's three for eight this spring. You're only confident on also had a hit guy who could desperately use a hit. Garrett Hampson, he was 0 for three Hampson. Now a 037 batting average this spring. 10:27Alright, some reds. Cactus League notes this from Pat Buchanan of the Cincinnati Inquire. Some scheduled changes because there's some extreme heat in Arizona coming up. Next weekend, reds and cubs, that's on March 20th will now be a 905 star time. And Saturday, March 21st, that's the second to last game in good year against the White Sox will also be at 905. World Baseball Classic quarterfinal started on Friday, the USA beat Canada 5 to 3. And then central zone Bryce Tarrang and Pete Crow Armstrong led the Americans with two hits each. And the Dominican Republic absolutely annihilated South Korea 10 to 0. So the USA and the Dominican Republic are going to play on Sunday night at 8 p.m. on Fox in the World Baseball Classic semifinals. Now, the other semifinal game that's got to be determined because A.U. Haney Oswara's and Edwin Arroyo will both be in action on Saturday in the other two quarterfinal matchups.

11:32Edwin Arroyo and team Puerto Rico take on Italy on Saturday at 3 p.m. You could find that game on Fox Sports 1 and then A.U. Haney Oswara's and Venezuela take on the really good Japan team at 9 p.m. on Fox. Reds back at it on Saturday, a 405 star time against the Texas Rangers in good year Arizona. No TV. This game will be on 700 WLW Reds pitcher scheduled a pitch. Red louder Emilio Pagan, Tony Santiano, Sam Moll and TJ Antone. Reds will be going up against the lefty of the Rangers Austin Gumber.
