By late Monday morning on March 16, Snowflurry surprised everyone around 10.30 or 11am. The snow lightly dusted grassy areas and rooftops along Red Mountain. Others stayed above freezing though, so it melted quickly without sticking to roads or creating travel issues. Locals were caught off guard by the sudden shift. One school assistant principal mentioned spending the weekend in short sleeves, and even washing his car, never imagining snow would fall so heavily. And make him worry about getting stuck. The Flurries caused no major problems across the region. Still, Birmingham City Schools canceled all afternoon activities that Monday as a safety measure.
