Psalm 139:1-12

139 O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.

2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.

5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

0:00Sunday, March 1st, 2026, spring is on the way by Carol Westerland, Lucima Finland, Reitzholm 139, 1-12. Even the darkness will not be dark to you, the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. I live in the far north and as winter sets in the nights become long and all of creation seems to lie dormant. People often feel downcast, you can read it in their faces. You see it in the way they brace against the wind and pass by looking at the ground. They're focused only on reaching their destination. When the onslaught of this weariness, I decided to go forward for prayer one Sunday morning. The pastor prayed for me and then paused. I still remember what he said next. Spring is

1:04on the way. He was right. The skies eventually became blue and days got longer. People started to smile and stopped to talk in the streets. It can be like that in our spiritual life as well. Jesus never said the narrow way would be easy. On the contrary, he told us to expect trouble and warned us that the way ahead would be demanding. But Jesus promised that he would be with us all the way. What a comfort it is to know that we are not expected to walk this path alone. And that is how we find joy even when it is still winter. Through faith, we hold on to the assurance that the Lord is with us. And spring is on the way. Dear God, help us to keep our eyes on you, knowing that you are with us, even when the night is long. Amen.
