SOURCE- WVU Wideout Jaden Bray TURNING HEADS in Winter Workouts!

About this episode

#WVU #WVUFootball #Mountaineers Jaden Bray is expected to return to West Virginia in 2026 after suffering a season-ending injury in Week 2 of the 2025 season — and his comeback could completely reshape the Mountaineers’ offense. Bray, a sixth-year senior with Power Five experience from Oklahoma State and WVU, is applying for a medical waiver and is anticipated to be fully cleared for spring practice. At 6’2”, 209 pounds, he brings size, explosiveness, and veteran presence to a wide receiver room that returns just ONE player who caught a pass last season — him. Under Rich Rodriguez, the wide receiver position is critical for perimeter blocking, vertical threats, and explosive plays. If Bray stays healthy, he immediately becomes the most proven outside weapon on the roster and could reduce WVU’s urgency in the transfer portal. But here’s the real question: Can he finally string together a fully healthy season? In this episode, we break down: Bray’s injury history and waiver situation His full college production arc The impact on WVU’s 2026 WR room Transfer portal implications Ceiling vs risk for the Mountaineer offense This might be the most important “IF” on West Virginia’s 2026 roster. 🔥 Hashtags #WVU #WVUFootball #Mountaineers #JadenBray #RichRod #WestVirginia #Big12Football #CollegeFootball #WVURecruiting #TransferPortal #MountaineerNation #LockedOnWVU #CFB #HailWV #CountryRoads Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. We're talking about what that is and what that looks like right now. What is up guys? Welcome back in. My name is Mount Tenier Paul.

Thanks for making Lockdown West Virginia your first listen, and for being a part of the Lockdown Podcast Network. What we're talking about to our team of the mountaineers every single day. Oh, man, you know, obviously one of the big questions going into 2026 and 2025 really was Jaden Bray. Unfortunately, the worst of luck has happened for the wide receiver who transferred from Oklahoma State after a breakout freshman year has had back-to-back really tough years.

And, you know, I think a lot of people have, I don't want to say given up, but there's a lot of trepidation with this guy, right? Because of the injury history. It's not a talent issue at all. And I tried to get an interview with him a couple weeks ago and his agent reached back out to me and said that they just want to stay low-key. I understand that. I wish they would have done it with me. I was willing to payment and I all deal to do that, but I understand why, you know, being the situation that he's in now. So, Jaden Bray has been working out for one of workouts. I've been told this to his of today. So, that tells me one one thing for sure that he's probably going to come back this year. I know that most people have made that assumption and it's not breaking news necessarily, but there hasn't been any evidence really of it yet, right? And, I mean, it's not like we have, you know, Coach Rodriguez talking about it or if there's

any really article stand that's official. So, you know, could there be a scenario where maybe he doesn't get his waiver still? I think possibly, yeah. I don't think that's going to happen, but I think, I mean, so what I'm trying to get you across to you guys is he's at winner workouts, he's at working out. That's what I was told and I was told he looks really good. So, take that with the grain of salt because the incidentably could deny a waiver. And let's see, already got it. We don't know about it. I haven't seen anything published about that. If there was and something said about it, I missed it. And I don't miss much. So, yeah, so just trying to get the record straight on where we're at here. This episode is about, you know, as you guys know, I talk to people about how their things are going. And, you know, one of the guys I wanted to know about was Jayden Bray. And he is looking really good. Obviously, he's a physical specimen anyways. So, that's not a

surprise, but they say he looks strong. He's lifting strong. He's doing well in some of the lifts. You know, so that's nice to see. And he's also a top performer in a couple of the lifts I'm told. So, not top performer, a top performer, like he's on the top three or four on some of the lifts. So, you know, that's big for him because of his size 6, 2, 2, 20 or whatever it is. A guy that can really fly around and catch balls is the guy that West Virginia needs to really be the number one guy this year. I think that's, you know, maybe that's full hearty now that he's had, you know, back to back season ending surgeries on the same foot or same area of the leg or foot. Maybe it is full hearty, but I'm still a believer in Jayden Bray. And, you know, I'd go back to last year and how he looked coming off that foot surgery. If you'll look at the video monitor here,

these were the throws he was kept, you know, these are the plays he were making from Niko during spring last year. And he looked really good, you know, and he's a mismatch. He's a size mismatch. He's a strength mismatch. He breaks tackles. If you go look at his Oklahoma state stuff specifically, he's a guy that breaks a ton of tackles. And, you know, the best you can hope for is that the structure of the foot or whatever part of the leg that is bothering him holds up. Because if it does, there's really not much else about his game you worry about. And, you know, that's just unfortunate that it's the foot, you know, I was hoping it was like a leg or something. But I'm pretty sure when I look back on this the other day, it was a foot thing. That sucks, you know, but I got to looking at somebody just sent me a text here while we're okay. Okay, so in real time, I get something that somebody noticed. Good eye from somebody here.

Hold on one second, I'll try to save that. So we're going to get into some of the wide receiver room and how this impacts that too. I'm screenshotting something now. Okay, so I've got a photo here. I'm uploading it. And this is kind of in real time, so I'm sorry for the messiness, but I do think it's important to note. I totally miss this. Good Eagle Eye Dylan. So Jaden Bray is on this football week three top performers. Right there he is. This is very, very bottom right. In the skill, 225, what is that power clean? So five reps

of two or so five or two. Okay, got it. So yeah, so that means that he's doing 225 five times twice or he's doing 220 times two times five times. I'm not exactly sure what one it is because I haven't lifted in so many years. I think it's five five reps two times, but anyway, either way, there he is on the list of lifting performance. So I only see one there, I think. Is there not another one of him? Is this the same one from last time? Somebody let me know. I'm not sure because that's not my picture, but says week three. I'm pretty sure the last one was week three. We should be in week four now. So yeah, that should be that should be last times or maybe one week five. I'm not sure, but either way, that's a good eye.

Somebody saw that Bray was on that too. So there you go. That solidifies it even more. I like that. I like the fact that he's, you know, if his foot was hurting, right, he wouldn't be lifting to 25 up. It's just not going to happen. So that gives me some comfort too. So, you know, there's visual proof that he's working out with a team. So that makes it even better. I'll say this a couple of things I want to point out about it. Obviously, his entry history and the waiver situation are still both attached to this. No doubt about it. But I think, you know, he's a six-year guy. He's got a ton of power for experience. And as long as he gets the waiver, I don't see why he can't be an elite perimeter blocker, something he's been at really good at before.

I think he can still be a vertical threat and get you explosive plays. Because I think if he stays healthy, he becomes the most proven outside weapon that you have for better or for worse. That's just the case. Whether people like it or not, that's the case, right? So now, can he become the guy? You know, that's a different question. If you look at his freshman year, 12 catches, 250 yards and two touchdowns is a true freshman. Then in 2022, he had another injury shortened year. In 2023, he had 30 catches for 382 yards and two touchdowns. That was a full season. Unfortunately, in 2024 and 2025, he has been injured. So three of his five years have been injured from. Let's just pray that he can have a full season of, you know, of health. Because if he does, it's not, he's gifted enough to where he'll make a monster impact.

And so we just have to hope that he does. I hate it for him, though, man. Sometimes people just can't stay healthy in life for football. So, you know, that changes up and shakes up the wide receiver room a little bit, right? And I think when you look at it, who is in the room now that he can play alongside of play all above that would make again a big impact? We talk about that right up to the break here on Lockdown West Virginia. Guys, we're talking about five hour energy here. And the reason for that is it's the flavor Olympics, right? We love talking about the flavor Olympics. And there's a big reason for that. You know, it's party time. And with five hour energy, their flavor lineup, we have to talk about it. And it is an important thing for us here on the show because 18 different flavors to choose from, including new options like confetti craze, fruity rainbow, and cotton candy. There's something for everyone here. The board is set,

the flavors are ready. And I've gotten a number one pick for five hour energy's flavor draft. Right now, guys, I've decided to go with peach mango. Right peach flavor on the, on the first sip, mango adds that tropical depth and sweetness. It's a smooth, rounded group profile, slightly richer mouthfeel than citrus flavors, sweet aromatic finish, and balanced tropical blend. Definitely worth trying out. I would suggest it highly. But if you want an, you know, an underrated flavor, absolutely, you got to go with confetti craze. And it's not overly sweet, but it is a delicious blend of rich and buttery, freshly baked confetti cake, smooth vanilla frosting, and sprinkle of sweetness in every sip, sweet birthday cake inspired flavor notes of vanilla frosting and sugary sprinkles, smooth dessert like taste profile and a rich indulgent sweetness or start to finish. Check all these out and more. And you can find these five hour energy shots available online,

fivehourenergy.com, or you can go to Amazon. I'm Neil founder of Claver. When I found ceramics, I realized my calling was to give others a space to be creative. So I set out to open my own studio, having a chasing card has allowed us to grow and bring people together. Now we're molding and creating a community. Chasing business cash card, you can earn up to five percent cash back on business essentials, so your business can go from here to possible. Chase for business, bake more with yours. Real business owner compensated for their participation. Cards issued by JP Morgan Chase Bank and a member of the IC subject to credit approval terms apply. And of course, guys, we got to talk about it as always, game time. And right now with game time, if you didn't know, let me tell you about it, because game time is killing the game right now in so many different ways. And the biggest stretch of the College of Basketball season is almost here. Buzzer meters, bracket busters, and those unforgettable moments that everyone's talking about the next day, being there live, though, for something like that. Well, that's a bucket

lift stuff. And the hard part is always about actually getting tickets, long cues, prices jumping around, surprise fees to check out is very true. The game time that gives the advantage back to the fans with constant innovation. It's how you unlock amazing tickets and experiences and just a few taps to the button. It's incredibly simple to use. The game time guarantee means 100% legitimate tickets delivered on time at the best price. And here's the best part fees are included in the price you see what you see, what you pay, period. The seat new feature is an actual game changer. You can see panoramic views from your seat in your seat before you buy. And I love being able to follow teams in the app and get alerts when new feet drop. No stress, no guesswork, and just a smooth experience from start to finish. That's exactly what you want during the busiest part of the year. Take the guesswork out of buying college basketball tickets with game time today. Download the game time app, create an account and use code lock down college. We're $20 off your first purchase with the term supply. Again, that's creating an account and you

redeem the code. And I'm sorry, it's actually locked on L. O C K E D O N for $20 off today. And download the game time app and do it today. So like city branch member FDIC terms and more at applecard.com. It's segment two. This news for you guys. You guys that are tuning into the show here. I don't need to have a cap on this one. Okay. It's still cold. Two sets of fire reps. Thank you, Tosh. I'm apparently had a brain part on that. I'm going to read a comment that I'll

stuck out to me here because I think it probably catches the sentiment of a few people. I just can't buy the stock for the third time. I've been on him twice already in loss. Hope he kicks ass though. But I'm not counting on break for anything until it proves it. I think that's a fair take. But if he's healthy, there isn't to me. He's talented enough. Like I do think he's an NFL receiver if he's healthy. I'm not saying he's the first wrong pick or anything. But I do think he's a guy that has an NFL abilities. Kind of like a Bryce Ward Wheaton. They remind me of each other a little bit. I think he's a guy that can get on a roster. It really just depends on this year. This is a make or break year for him. I don't know what the deal is with the foot. I don't know if that's the reason he was hurt to begin with. Or it's just never... I don't know. Without knowing somebody's exact medical history,

who knows? But I know some people have foot injuries that just never fully... But it's usually like bigger guys, seven footers or people like Kevin Durant, who has major foot injuries. It's usually bigger guys. Not exactly sure why. His have been so severe in the last couple of years. Maybe it's just bad luck. Sometimes it is. I'll show... I'll always use the example of Thomas Davis. Linebacker played for the Carolina Panthers alongside Luke Keakley. He had... I believe it was either two or three ACL tears in his career. And it was like several years into his NFL career before he finally really got it. Sometimes it's like that. Sometimes it takes people forever to figure out how to get over that hump health wise or for that thing to heal just right or the right surgery. Sometimes you know, but we're not talking about ligaments here. We're talking about bones.

And that's just totally different things. So we'll see what happens with him. Hopefully, like I said, Jayden can kick butt going forward. But let's look around the room a little bit too, because we've talked about it. We're also going to talk about... I noticed on that list here. Now, because this is the biggest picture I've gotten of that lifting board. This is the clearest I've been able to see it. To be honest, I wasn't able to see every name on it. And for those of you listening on audio, it's a picture of a video monitor and has all the players lifting results on it from week three. Obviously, we've already did an episode on this about Kevin Brown, who is number one or number two on every single lift just about for the lineman. Pretty incredible. Nate Gabriel got to be honest. Nate Gabriel is pushing him in a lot of categories too. So that's exciting to your best lineman. You need them to be good.

But there's another person on there I noticed just happened to look across it. That's very exciting on there. It's not a wide receiver, but we're going to talk about that too since I get them with a wide receivers. There's a player on there that's got at least three. I see where he's number one. So when it comes to the wide receiver room, you got to be honest with yourself, right? Because there's not any experience in there outside of maybe EPS. And obviously print stront a little bit, but those are at lower levels. Can they move up to the big 12 and do it? That's what you have to be honest with yourself about. It's tough, right? That's why we needed to run Francis to be hopefully the number one guy or number two guy or whatever, but now he's hurt. So we've already had some bad luck at wide receiver this year. We don't need any more, but I am going to include Terran Francis in this because I'm told that he'll be fine for spring. If that's the case, then he'll have plenty of time to get timing and rhythm down hopefully.

Would love to keep Camp Von, even with the attitude issues, I think he's talented enough to make a difference, but I understand why they let him go. It just sucks. But you know, Terran Francis, obviously I have as one A or one B, print stront is another guy, you know, I think obviously Jaden Bray, John Knight or DJ EPS, Keon Hutchins are all guys, I think, can make a difference. Tegic triplet, our money weaver, Greg Wilfred, our guys as well. And it's really hard to pick, like, okay, who are going to be the starters? Like I'm looking at 247 right now, they have starting receivers, they have, you know, split in, they have Terran Francis and print stront. Flank, clanked out why they've got Jaden Bray, and then they've got John Knighter number two, which is a pretty interesting pick. And I'm not saying I disagree with it actually.

Very well could be Knighter because he's so consistent. Don't be surprised if DJ EPS isn't in the conversation there too, obviously, according to them, Hutchins is down at fourth. I don't know about that, you know, I can see Hutchins being number one, even, like he's talented enough, he was the number ones you go player in all the nation. So, you know, and then Robert Oliver is a sneaky freshman because you go look at him. He was really good in high school. He actually changes his last name. It was steth, I think, or something along those lines, but he's from NICE Bill. I do remember that. You know, so there's, I think our ride receiver room has a ton of talent in it. It's just nobody proven. So we need a couple guys to step up. Preferably, I mean, if you would, if you wanted to go like, okay, hit the easy button. Jaden brace, Jaden brace stays healthy. Prince Straun takes the next level step up because look, if you, if you can have a receiver that's

good, that's also six foot five, that's the best case scenario in my opinion because it's just so big of a mismatch. Straun's got that ability at six foot five. There's no way he doesn't make an impact this year, as long as he stays healthy. And then NIDAR, you know, those guy, like the rooms got a chance to be pretty good. And then Ryan Ward, Sap and Ball, I think I'll have a chance to make an impact in the tight end room as well. We need that to happen. But yeah, Jaden brace, obviously, and doing all that, you know, are interesting, obviously, as far as from a lifting perspective, 225 on the hand clean for receivers, pretty good. I used to do 225. I remember back in the day, I used to be able to hand clean that. But yeah, so really rooting for Jaden, obviously, but he's not the only one. We're going to break here. We're going to come right back out of this with there is somebody on this list of the lifting that we just, that I just looked at while we're

looking at it. That is in the top three, I would say most important players this off season for West Virginia, that is doing really well. So we'll talk about that next. Stick around here. Guys, we got to talk about our buddies, man. I can't and look, if you didn't know, we were talking about coast. Now, this is a new one. We just got them. All right guys, thank you so much for being here on this one. Obviously,

I'll get better at that read. It's the first read on that, but I had to find out whether that's Celtic or Celtic bank as well, but yeah. Got to talk about Toby Haustrup here. If there's one player that West Virginia fans need to break out this year, it might be him, because when you have an elite pass rusher, it changes literally everything for you, literally everything in your life, right? So I think he's a guy that when you look at him on paper, he is almost perfect at everything that you would possibly need. He's got the size, he's got the speed, he's got literally everything. So 65, 64, 65, I actually, they might have malicious 63 now. I saw that the other day, he might be 63, but 250, 240, he's, you know,

the transfer from Oregon, if you're not familiar, he's showing up on three lifts here. Let me pull that back up again. Okay, so, you know, yeah, so here it is, three different lifts you see him on. You've seen with the squat, 385 times five, narrow grip bench, 23 reps is really good, and he's got a 250 pound powercling. So that's impressive, man, you know, like especially for a guy that's a red shirt freshman, that's only been playing ball for two years. Come on, you can't ask for no better. Toby Hostrepp, man, look out for Toby. Here he comes, you know, we already talk about how important he is to the team, because when you have an elite pass rusher, you have a guy that not only can, if you have a bad secondary, he can make it much, much better, but he also impacts

the quarterback in just so many other ways, can impact offenses, you know, no doubt, teams have to sometimes, if a guy is so good, they have to, you know, they have to move resources over to one side or the other to try to block him. I have a feeling Hostrepp is going to grow into that for this. I just have a gut feeling we're going to have a, he's going to work out. You know, obviously the things with your more Robinson have people gun shy now, but you know, there's no way you can predict all that would happen last year. How can a guy go from almost 11 sacks to zero like that? It's just, it's unheard of really. And it was all, I think, from what I understand, self-inflicted. He came in out of shape. There was academic issues. And, you know, he didn't, and he stayed out of shape until the, then tried to get on the field and play out of shape. And that's what I was told happened. He tried to play. Basically, he was out for the first few

games or whatever. And when he came back, he tried to, he never worked out or I don't know. I'm sure he worked out, but he was nowhere near in game shape. So say that for what you will, but that was obviously a major disappointment for West Virginia and many other people. So I just say, like I said, to people at the time, it's going to, it's going to be, you know, he's like, in a sense, the same thing is like, to Vita, for now, right? Like he's like, you know, another version of that, but except he actually sued up for West Virginia. There'll be Jamoy Robinson forever. We talked about so well to Vita. You know, hopefully, we can have the opposite for Toby Haustrup here because he is a richer freshman. He's only got that one year at Oregon to really roll off of. And his film at Oregon is so freaking ridiculous. Like if you ever get to go watch it, it's, it's so silly. Like he, he looks so good there. Like,

you want to get there once. He dominated them at times last year in practice. It is a highlight tape so you never know play to play how he did, but I mean, he definitely beat the starting left tackle for Oregon on multiple plays on his highlight reel, at least two Isaiah worlds. So six, seven, three hundred and twenty pound guy. So he's definitely got a ton of, ton of potential, I think. Basque ball tomorrow, obviously, I did, I did a show yesterday that's performing like crap. I think it's because I did three videos back to back to back. I did not mean to do that. I should have spread them out more. But if you get a chance to go watch the BYU preview with Dave McCann, it's an excellent, you know, he does an excellent job, obviously, and would love just for you, guys, to see exactly what I mean about that because Dave is so awesome. All right, guys, we're going to get out of here. I've got things to do today. I got a bunch of errands to run, but I will be back later to do another video. We'll figure out what it is then. Hopefully,

there's some content today that maybe we can work off of whether that's a rankings video or something. I don't know. You just never know these days, but thanks for making us your first listen.
