So Sony is testing dynamic pricing in the PlayStation store for PS5 and I think this is going to go well. I don't think this is going to go well for them. People hate dynamic pricing but all these corporations keep trying to push it and I think they're going to keep pushing it and pushing it and pushing it until we kind of relent and say, fine, this is just the way things are right now. I mean, we've seen it with Wendy's. There was a media pushback on that and they kind of walked it back. But Walmart now has all these digital price tags all over the place. I'm sure you guys have seen them and I'm sure that is so they can change the price on you, right? Depends on who you are, what time of day it is, how much money they need, how much money they think you have, and now Sony's getting in on that too. So let's go out to the article here, this is on polygon. Sony's PlayStation store has been testing dynamic pricing
on games regions around the world have been part of an experiment that displays differing prices for the same PlayStation 5 games. Yeah, so they said, unless a video games on sale, you probably expect to pay the same price as anyone else. But it seems that Sony is testing the waters for a system on the PlayStation store that will display varying prices for the same product to different people. The PlayStation maker also appears to be testing personalized sales that will show discounts tailored to the user viewing them. Dynamic pricing is a revenue model where a company will switch up the cost of an item for different users. These changes are dependent on a variety of factors like purchase history data, location, inventory demand, time of day, whether an income level, and if they just need some money, though controversial, dynamic pricing has seen a surge in a variety of industries from grocery stores to housing markets. The price discrepancies can have a wide range or they could be minor depending on the industry. So that is dynamic pricing. So in the case of the PlayStation store, a website called PS Prices has been tracking the numbers across Sony's digital platform. In an update on its research, the website
said it had detected unusual offer structures containing experiment identifiers while monitoring the PlayStation stores API responses. By keeping track of the testing identifiers, the proprietors found that Sony has been AB testing prices for a number of games, including first-party titles like God of War, Ragnarok, and the last of us, part two. They should just give that one away. The program allegedly includes 139 different games and has been running across 68 regions. According to the price tracking website, price differences can fall anywhere between 5.3% to 17.9%. Notably, the test only included price decreases, not hikes. The experiment has also not occurred within the US. This is probably why it took them so long to figure this out. Yeah, and it will come to the US, too. I'm sure. And what they're going to do is they'll go to other countries and then they'll hit the US with this. This is going to be the new normal guys. I mean, it's going to be the new normal.
