The event, put together by 1997 World Champ, Ken Doherty, and MC Rob Walker, drew around 600 people on a first-come, first-served basis. It came months after his funeral on February 14, in Spain. Virgo made his mark as a pro in the 1970s, snagging the UK Championship in 1979 against Terry Griffiths in a dramatic, final frame. He peaked at number 10 in the rankings, then shifted to TV, becoming the BBC's voice of Snooker and co-hosting the hit show Big Break with Jim, Davidson for over a decade.
