Smith Family Tradition Continues at UNC

0:00From Durham, this is your March 7 update. Maloy Smith, a six-foot-six senior guard from Mater Day High School in Santa Ana, California, has committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels. Basketball team. He's keeping a strong family tradition alive as the third Smith to join the program. He made the announcement Friday on his father Kenny Smith's ESPN NBA tip-off show. After much prayer and thought during his recruitment, Smith chose to become part of the Carolina family. On the court this season, the three-star point guard averaged 8.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. His top performances included 20 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists in single games. Smith follows in the footsteps of his dad, Kenny, a former Tar Heel star, who earned first team All-America honors in 1987. Kenny went on to a 10-year NBA career, and now works as a TV analyst, his older brother KJ. Smith also played for North Carolina and graduated in 2021.
