Reigning national leagues, Sai Young winner, Paul Schienes of the Pittsburgh Pirates will face Freddie Peralta of the New York Met on March 26 at City Field. Both pictures finished in the top five for the award last year, setting up one of the best duels to kick off the season. This marks their third head-to-head match-up. They met twice last season when Peralta was still with the Milwaukee Brewers. Schienes got the edge in the first, but ended without a decision in a Pirates extra innings win, while Peralta dominated the rematch with six scoreless, innings for the victory. Over the winter, the Met's traded for Peralta to anchor their rotation, putting him on a collision course with Schienes right away. Pittsburgh announced Schienes as their starter without surprise, after his stellar year including a second All-Star nod and franchise strikeout records.
