00I'm one of those people who will happily eat steak at eggs any time of the day. Breakfast, dinner, it's technically midnight, but I'm still hungry. Doesn't matter. There's just something unbeatable about a good steak hitting a hot pan. That immediate sizzle, the smell filling the kitchen, and then topping it with a fried egg where the yolk is deep yellow and just barely runny, unreal, pure protein having. That's also why I love having Omaha steaks on hand. The steaks are incredibly tender, super flavorful, and cook evenly, whether I'm searing them on the stovetop or throwing them on the grill, it's that steakhouse quality bite at home. Omaha steaks has everything from their fan favorite filet mignon. Yes, the USDA certified tender one, to burgers, chicken, pork, seafood, and even fully cooked comfort meals, like beef pot roast, or meat lovers lasagna. 2:01Terms apply. See site for details. It's the Boomerangio podcast from WFAN. All right, Boomerangio on the fan and CBS sports network red pocket mobile fan line is brought to you by your new ultimate sell carrier red pocket mobile. We'll get some calls in throughout the day at 888 81019 right now, though, it is time for Jerry's first update of the morning. What's going on, Jerry? Well, good morning, brought to you by Chef IQ Precision Cooking Effortless Results, ChefIQ.com. I will get you John Minkos call for next hour, but this hour I will give you Kevin Kugel or Westwood One on the fan. St. John's blows the 14 point lead, but has enough to take down Kansas in advance. Inbound comes to goal three seconds to set the star on the track to the rim. Layup is gone. Layup is gone. St. John's wins it 16, 7, 65. The St. John's red storm storm into the sweet 16.
02As I mentioned, as heard right here on the fan, Westwood One, I think Dylan Darling made that shot in his career, like throughout high school and college and just through his head. This the games on the line, I'm going to take it all the way to the hole and I'm just one of these sweeping kind of layups. Yeah, I mean, probably a lot because he put a lot of basketball, but I mean, this one counted. This is the one. When I saw this angle, which you see on Delay, we're seeing it at first, I'm like, what they did just let him run right to that tough shot that he made. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah, I mean, like he, it's like a sweeping, right handed, let's throw it up. Almost like a jump hook as he's falling in towards the basket. I mean, a defender was right there. He was, and so they win 67, 65 as they do advance. Zubi etcha four and Bryce Hopkins at 18 points apiece. So I take you back to January. You will remember Rick Patino said this about Dylan Darling. Dylan Darling, he's got balls as big as church bells. I mean, unbelievable. No, I bring that up because he's going to talk about bells, which is what he calls
03him as he tells the story about how that play came to be from Darling in the huddle. He is the amazing thing and the funniest thing I've ever been involved with. So we're going to run a play and but they got fouls to give. And bells comes up to me and says run power, which is a high back screen pick and roll. So I walk away. I said, okay, power and then as he walked away, he then realized, wait a second. He hasn't scored a bucket and he wants to run a play for himself. And then I'm thinking as I'm walking and I said, but he's bells. And not only did he do it, he went with his right hand. So real proud of him because to want the ball, when you haven't made it a shot, is unbelievable. Unbelievable. They clipped it at the end, but yes. So kind of a cool story right there. Here was Darling himself going out and getting it done. I'm just glad and winning because if it didn't, you know, I'm probably not on the flight back to New York tonight. So happy to win in, but happy to do it for coach.
05And so first sweet 16 appearance and 27 years for St. John's go back to 1999. The last time they did that, Ian Jackson at 10 points off the bench, did you see the two Kansas players on the right side of Darling comes down, just like, look at him. I'm glad he worked by him. Yeah, probably afraid to reach in and get called for a foul. Exactly. Just given those three fouls. Exactly what happened. Yeah. And in the bonus, but time and space, you would also think close out, make them pass it. I don't know if there would have been enough time to get a shot off if they would have passed into the corner, but maybe they would have who knows. Darren Peterson did have 21, but he was five of 15. Again, St. John's defense was really, really good other than maybe that last couple of minutes where Kansas came back. St. John's Duke in the sweet 16 Friday night, 7 p.m. in Washington, DC. Meantime, you can't also advance. They will play 930 Friday night in Washington. They beat UCLA 73 57. So I'm going to take you back to Saturday now. This was Mick Cronin, the UCLA head coach after they won their first round game.
06And you know, they were getting set to play Yukon. So the theme was Yukon UCLA, Mick Cronin, Danny Hurley. And Cronin was asked about the idea that he and Hurley take a lot of heat from national media about their sideline demeanor. This was this was Cronin on Saturday. It's ridiculous. Everybody needs to get a life, bro. Get a life, man. Come on, man. Get a life, bro. You want to win big? But you think coach Hurley's not supposed to be intense, but you want to win. Come on, man. We're not this, we're not coaching little league, buddy. Everybody doesn't get in that bad, you know, come on, man. Paying us a lot of money to win games. So the theory there is, come on, man. Get a life, come on, man. But yeah, you get a life, bro. You get where he's coming from. So then they lose 73 57 was the final. And then he was asked about getting past this point at UCLA. You feel like anything needs to change with the approach or after construction or the way you're. Yeah, I have no right now. I'm worried about tonight consoling the guys.
09We'll stay here in the front row. I'd like about five more million. There's my answer. Time to get more players. It's amazing. And they had a lot of money, I believe. I'm pretty sure they're making a lot of $12 or $13 million. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, they have like, you know, this is a historical basketball institution. And we'll tell you though, you wouldn't know it out there. Like when I went out there, like, yeah, it's neat. It's pretty cool. Very cool. And when you see the wooden statue, it's amazing. You go in, you see the banners, the names, all of it's a bit, but they're not sold out. They were paying people before anybody. Well, understood. Here's Danny Hurley. So now going forward, he got 27 from Alex Karabin in this win yesterday. They'll get Michigan State again, 930, which will follow the St. John's game. And so what Hurley here is employing are the St. John's fans and the Yukon fans to make it a very, very difficult environment for Duke and Michigan State. It's pretty brutal on Twitter. I think it's social between our fan bases.
11But I think we got to kind of try to come together on Friday night against our opponents so that then we could have a bloodbath on someday. So they can play that fourth game. I mean, he is a maniac. I actually bought these coaches, but you know, and and Danny Hurley are pretty funny. Of course, hilarious. Yeah, you know, someone, someone who was getting criticized was Kevin Willard over the weekend, because he was doing that whole thing about I got a fire, my coaching staff. And then he did it again in the post game. So he did it interview where he's like, I got a fire, some coaches in the post game. I was like, well, I got to fire some coaches, but he didn't, he didn't do it. He never smiled or anything. And people are like, is he serious? And then I, he's like, well, come on. Of course, it's a joke. Of course, it's a joke that he's like chastises people for not knowing it's a joke. Do you remember him this time last year? Yeah, I know with the, he was the same about everything. I'm not going. I am going to stay and nobody's told me anything. Yeah, okay, right. So, but with Hurley, the point is, you know, with Hurley and Patino and others,
12when they're jerks, they kind of do it with a, like, you know, Hurley will be like, you know, I'd probably get to get fined for this, but or like, you know, let me choose by words correctly or patino will say something and then like, you know, shoot a look like I have just messing with you, but Willard is just, he just looks like a D bag 24 seven, you know, yeah, I owe a beat. Florida's 73 72 Alvaro Fulgaris with the go ahead three with four seconds left. And then Florida, terrible play, running down the floor, where I think it was avian Lee, just like gets caught under the basket and just throws the pass to nobody. It's never been in that. It's strange. Yeah, very solid. You find yourself in this position where all of a sudden all hell's breaking loose. And you don't have bells as your point. They do not have bells. That is true. And Tennessee beat Virginia 79 72 wins for Arizona Purdue Iowa State and for Alabama. Did play a game yesterday. They got past the nets on Friday. Well, there was no surprise here. They just clobbered the wizard. Brunson turns, falls away.
17Got it. Sweet jumper from Brunson. Staying in the game despite hurting his ankle. Which is an ongoing thing. He's a tough guy. Yes, he is. My friend on MSG 145, 113. The final Brunson had 23. Carl Anthony Towns, 26 points and 16 rebounds. And Josh Hart had a solid game. 16.6 boards here was heart on the game. I think we just continue to play our style. We had some lapses defensively. But for the most part, we were able to get stops and kind of just play our game. They can actually catch Boston. I mean, they're right there. Yeah, they're right there. They're one of the most. And amazing. Detroit is one three in a row. And that's without what's his name. He's coming from him. So they're not going to catch him. But the thing about the Boston situation, even though the brackets are in the NBA, it's still going to be Boston and New York in the same side of the bracket. Doesn't matter. You know, two, three. Yeah, they're going to be on the same side of the bracket. Really what it would come down to if they end up playing, you know, in a series together, it would be who would have the seventh game at home
19is basically what it comes down to. But as we saw last year, the next one. They're not afraid to win in Boston. No issues like better on the road for some reason. Yeah. Here was Mike Brown, solid as compared to maybe Friday night and Brooklyn, which wasn't. We talked about it. You know, a lot of biggest things making our opponent feel us. And we did a better job in that area. You know, I thought we did a nice job moving the ball and trying to take the right shots. We had a couple of turnovers in that first quarter that we wish we had back. But I thought overall, it was a lot better than what we've done in the past. You have backed the back games against two teams that are trying to like, tank for the number of one or two overall picks. Well, the nets gave them a run. Yeah, I know they did. I mean, I give the players a lot of credit. So sure. I'll give you a look into what it's like to be a net. Now, Josh Minot, who's been here for like 10 minutes with the nets, had 22 points on Friday night. Yeah, after the game made it very clear how badly he wanted to beat the next. I wanted that. So bad.
20I mean, ever since we've been here, it's like every game's an away game. Sure is. He says we had such a chance too. I just like tonight was just the night. I really just stick it to everybody, man. That's an organization as a team to show people that I like. We got here. Again, he's been here for 10 minutes, but you like a person free throws in the game. Well, Bronson missed one and Towns miss both. And then here was one more talks about the again. We talk about it all the time, but to hear these guys discuss it and what they realize the opposing fans. How bad it is. Oh, no, man. Just see a blue, see orange. Every game we play, see the other team. I mean, I saw it here when I was on the Celtics, but being here, it's like I've done nothing for respect for like the real fans, like the real Brooklyn fans, like shout out to them, you know, because I know it's tough me to outnumber it every single game. That is rough. Yeah, but we know. I mean, I know what went on for years. It just sounds sad.
20Even when they were winning, it's still. Nah, they disagree with that. They were when when Durant was here, it was pretty good. It's probably the only time it's been like that. Not that first year, it didn't play. Then he got paid. Yeah, if you, I don't know if you remember that. Yeah, I do. Yeah, God almighty. Here was one more from mine out who says, you know what, we can be good. I really feel like just like what we have here, isn't it? The one like we have pieces here. I've seen it. So I say that's that's what this, this rivalry meant. And he did the old air quotes with rivalry because it's no rivalry. How many, how many guys that are on this team right now are going to be on this team? Head full. No, a good handful. I mean, it's very young to him. I know that the four first round picks from last year. Yeah, you know, we want to be bummer. Exactly what we're trying to do. Lose every game and barrisol sales. And I'll just be sitting in this office the whole time. No one ever, ever criticizes me. I just sit here and continue to do the worst job in the NBA. And then I come back next year.
23They'd better be better next year. They'd better be better next year. You've been saying that for 10 years. Uh, I suppose T Wolves beat the Celtics. One of the two 90 channel fan or giant fan. No, Anthony Edwards in that game. Fourth strike. I think it's the fourth, fourth straight game he's missed due to injury. Bones Highland and 23. Oh, I thought you were going to list off an injury. No, that's the guy came off the bench at 23. He's out with Bones Highland. That's a, that's a new injury. That John Crosley. Yeah, right. Four to six weeks. Who's taking the Bones Highland? This year. Well, we do the bet. Oh, that is funny. Then it's, by the way, did lose in Sacramento 126, 122. Nuggets beat the Blazers, 128, 112, 35th triple double of the season for Nicole, a joke, it's 22 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists. The Yankees beat the Phillies in Tampa, 62 close out the Florida portion of spring training. They will play the Cubs in Arizona today and tomorrow before opening the season against the Giants on Wednesday night.
23The Mets wrapped up their spring. They lost to the Marlins and Jupiter. Four three, they will open Thursday against the Pirates at City Field. And while the weekend looks frigid, Thursday looks very nice for the opener, for the likes of Bob Yusler, who I'm sure is going to his 85th straight Mets Opener. It looks like it's going to be in the high 60s on Thursday. So that's kind of cool. If in fact, that turns out to be the case. The Jets beat the Rangers in a shootout 3-2. And there wasn't much scoring in the Islanders game, but the Isles got the one and only goal that was needed. Here's a chance with four by Heinemann to the Mets. Four by Steyn. The first show to the game is a bullet from Bob Yusler. It sure was one nothing at that point. And that was it. The Isles beat the Blue Jackets. One nothing. Elias Sirokin made 26 saves. Here's his head coach, Patrick Waw. Elias, a person I think that loves to compete. And he did a really nice job. I mean, it's not easy coming back from, I'm telling you, it's not easy coming back after a couple of losses like we have.
25But he's show a lot of character. And that's one of reason why he's a leader on our team. And so a good win is they are fighting to get into the playoffs. It's amazing how they have more wins than the teams in front of them in the playoffs. Regular ones. It's just that third point that goes over time and should out as a ridiculous man. They got to do something about it. It just, it happens every year. I know, but just it's frustrating for any fan of a team where you have your regular season, your regular wins. I think the gallons have 40 regular wins. And you know, because those teams like the jackets have 11 points from those over time losses. Yeah, I like those. I'd rather it's fine. As I say, the islanders only have five of those points. Are they going to play off game with me? No. I'm going to see your son-in-law or your grandson-in-law. Yeah, I saw him yesterday. No, but you go watch him skate. I saw more goals than he was yesterday because I played and I did score and he didn't. All right, what's wrong with going to a game? You should go to a game, Mr. Long Island. I can watch the game on TV if I need to. Yeah, be better in person. You sounded like an islander fan.
25Why'd you show eyes if you get to the playoffs? That is not true. That isn't even close to being true. I don't know if I believe that. And in golf, Matthew Fitzpatrick won the Val Sports Championship. I'm Brian. I work at UnitedHealthcare. So Brian, why do you care? I care because I don't want to leave anybody behind. I oversee one of the biggest resource center in UnitedHealthcare. I see people walked in in my office every day, just like my parents. They have no idea about the health care. I feel like they have my uncles, aunties. I treat it as people of my family. I'm Brian and I'm committed to care. I'm one of those people who will happily eat steak at eggs any time of the day. Breakfast, dinner, it's technically midnight, but I'm still hungry. Doesn't matter. There's just something unbeatable about a good steak hitting a hot pan.
