Alright, back at it here on Afternoon Drive, John of the Pedal and Nick Padone with you guys.
Alright, I want to play a clip from Albert again.
Uh, and we'll get your phone calls in a second, 2164740 below 92.
But I did think this was interesting, Nick, because the idea that we're talking right now about Ty Simpson and where it falls in line and whether or not it makes sense, Albert saying Ty Simpson, not a first round pick.
Well, how far do we go with this conversation?
If you take somebody in the second or third round, does it take you out of the idea of taking a quarterback in the 2027 draft or does it say like, okay, we can do this now, we can play with this.
No, if you're taking somebody in round two, round three, you could still have your cake in 2027 as well.
I argued with Darryl on the Sunday show for over the last two weeks, even if they take Ty Simpson at 20 at 24 overall.
Yeah, you could still take a first round quarterback in 2027.
If it goes colossally bad, that's countless examples of teams that have tried it just to say, we'll see what we can get with this guy.
And then if it goes bad, you could just wash your hands of it and get back right in line.
I think most people would look at Josh Rosen and that situation in Arizona one year and then you're like, all right, I guess we're done with this income.
Darryl, Darryl yelled at me about that because that's a bad example to use because what is Kyler Murray or Josh Rosen done?
So, I think that's about the Darryl impression, you know, he was jumping down my shirt over that.
He also didn't really like the trade lance one that 49ers uses a top five draft pick on trade lance.
And they wiped their hands of it because they found Brock Perty in round seven.
And Brock Perty was the third quarterback used that season two because remember, they went to Garoppolo to then get injured and then be able to go to Brock Perty.
And it was one of those deals where now I think it's interesting about that and there's a couple different layers that we can go to.
But what is interesting about the Brock Perty situation is the idea that when it came to practices, it was obvious.
And like all the reports and everything that Shanahan and other people have mentioned is that basically trade lance just bugged nothing close to the part.
And Brock Perty looked everything the part.
And so like, maybe it'll just become obvious to people and maybe that's part of this exploring idea and the components to it all.
But I don't disagree.
There's a part of you that even at 24, you can get away with it.
I just don't know that the Browns are in position to be taking those type of swings.
And so when I hate them for doing it, I would hate the idea because it's Ty Simpson, but I don't hate the logic behind it.
If it was a different quarterback, if it's somebody I believed in, I could get on board with what you're describing.
But I can't because Ty Simpson's developmental to Ty Simpson.
If it's ever going to work out, isn't going to be in this one year silo, it's going to be in a two, three, four year silo.
And the Browns just don't have the ability to kind of maneuver their way through that.
You're you are probably right.
I feel like that's a big piece of what like Buffalo Bill's fans live through with Josh Allen.
It's a crazy comp to make.
I'm not trying to come.
I know where your hands are.
Bill's fans hated that pick on draft night.
They hated Josh Allen.
He got on the field this first year.
It was our is ups and downs.
First two years stunk.
And many and many figured it out.
The first two years stunk and in the draft process, what was the big deal on Josh Allen?
They knew that he could throw it over the barn.
They didn't know if he could hit the barn, right?
That was the big line that everyone kept using.
And he hadn't played in similar to Ty Simpson.
Haven't played enough games.
The thing with Josh Allen was he hadn't played anybody.
And so that went back to this discussion though.
Does Ty Simpson exclusively take you out of the 2027 draft?
I think in most scenarios, you're right.
Most scenarios you take a Ty Simpson and it's not the end of the world.
You could take him at 24.
You could take him at 39.
Yeah, Stinks, you're losing your first round pick.
But that's why you take these picks and have these picks to take those type of swings.
But Ty Simpson, you won't get a good evaluation on him in one year.
Is the caveat though, Munkin?
And Munkin's pre-existing relationship with him and that this is somebody that Munkin has wanted since Ty Simpson
was a high school.
He's a football coach, not Jesus.
He's not going to try water into water.
But is that the caveat that we're going to give this Munkin thing a one year trial run?
Kevin never got to pick his quarterback.
I had to listen to that for six years.
That Kevin got never got to pick his.
So maybe they let Todd pick his in year one.
And if it goes bad, okay, Ty's done, Todd's done.
We're ushering in archmaning with the whole new print.
But you're setting them up to fail in that regard, Nick.
I do not set them up in the right way.
I'm just trying to figure out what are the Browns thinking.
I agree with you on all of this.
I would go with Shedore.
That's the easy thing to do.
If Shedore pops, you're off to the races, not just this year, but then in 2027.
Imagine Shedore Sanders and Jeremiah Smith in 2027.
If you could find out that Shedore is your guy and you don't need a quarterback,
but you're going to continue to grow with him.
You could really have some fun with it.
I just wonder where are the Browns heads at?
Because I heard the owner of the team showing a ton of love.
Too much love for me to Deshaun Watson, who I want nothing to do with.
And I'm willing to entertain Ty Simpson.
If it means keeping Deshaun Watson away from this thing and it's entirety.
All right, here is Albert talking about adding a quarterback potentially later on in the draft.
Here we go.
You know what? I really like the idea of it because I always think it's a good investment
to swing if you've got disposable picks.
And you've got like a little bit of you feel like some currency there.
And somebody falls and you're in the fourth or fifth round.
And I never mind taking a swing in quarterback in those situations,
even if you have one, the beauty of doing that to me is you're taking a swing.
And it doesn't take you off the market from taking one the next year.
Like if you take one at six or 24 chances are you're not taking another quarterback
next year, right? Or do you have to that?
Take one in the third or the fourth or fifth round.
You very easily just turn around and take another one the next year.
So in that way, it's almost a free shot where you're not taking yourself off the market
to try to get an answer on term.
But you know, maybe you are getting a chance to look at a guy with some upside.
So my only problem with that is that he calls it like this free shot.
And I understand the concept that Albert's putting out there.
But is it really a free shot if the plan as of right now,
we should or Sanders and to Sean Watson and then what?
Like you're going to take this, let's say Carson Beck.
Let's say they take Carson Beck in the fourth round or third round.
Yeah, they've got like 146, 149.
Like they've got all of these two rounds.
Aren't you just wasting a pick in that regard then?
Like I mean, I get the idea of darts at a dart board.
I understand all of it.
But I don't understand the idea of drafting a quarterback in the fourth round
just to draft a quarterback in the fourth round.
Could I give you my one that I would be on board with it?
I'm going to assume you're going to say Nuss Meyer.
Nope.
All right, good. Hit me.
Drew Al.
Like a blackjack dealer. Hit me.
Drew Al.
I know.
No.
So my thing with Drew Al are, is that he of all the mid round guys,
I think is the one that could somehow, some way in the right ecosystem.
And I don't think the browns are the right ecosystem.
But somehow, some way, I think Drew Al are of all the mid round quarterbacks this year,
is the one that has the elite traits in terms of his size and his arm that he could eventually become somebody.
You're doing this eventually thing here where it's like,
I'm not trying to, you know, poo poo your idea.
I'm just trying to, I'm trying to figure out what the plan would actually be.
Because if the plan is, should or either a boomer bust or anything throw to Sean in there as well,
2027 draft is the main priority.
Right.
And so are we just going to have Drew Al are sitting behind this 2027 draft pick that is then going to be,
how does that work?
Make the math work on that.
So because Drew Al is re-blocked is what happens in the scenario.
If Brearer likes the idea of the brown selecting a mid round quarterback,
it would probably have to be similar to what last year was,
where if you take Drew Al or call it in the fourth round,
you probably have to get a look at him at some point in the regular season to see what he can do.
And if he's going to be the guy.
Aren't you inherently than betting against Shedore or Dishon in that instance?
I'm betting against personally, I bet against Dishon in any situation.
Part of it can't be, I'm drafting this guy in case I need a third quarterback.
Like that, that's not a, we're talking about that might be where they're at though,
because, because where's Dishon?
You see how munk and succinct it is.
But you see how crappy of a plan that is, if the idea is like,
well, we're just going to go out like it's like a,
give everyone a taste, give everyone like, break it into segments,
you get five games, you get seven games, and you get the other five.
Like, it doesn't, doesn't make sense.
None of that is logical.
And I get the browns don't do a logical, one of logical things.
I get that.
But like in most markets, if people understand the most markets,
you don't get to a third quarterback ever.
I know we get there all the time here.
And that's not something that happens in other markets.
That's not something other football teams consistently talk about.
Is there a third quarterback?
And how many seasons they get to three?
We have to talk about three every year, though.
We have to.
You can't take Carson Beck, or let's say even say Drew Aller on the idea,
that you're going to eventually need to get to your third quarterback this year.
That's an awful, awful way to not only put together a team,
but to think.
I would reframe your thinking on it, though.
What if it went like this?
What if they start Shadour Sanders?
That should be the end of Convo, by the way.
You shut your plan is I start Shadour Sanders, and then that's it.
That's 17 games, and that's what we do.
But what if the wheels start to come off the thing?
Then this is where Dishon gets his opportunity.
But that's where you lose me.
Keep Dishon holding the clipboard.
If Shadour, the wheels fall off the wagon, then you go to Drew Aller.
And that keeps Dishon off the field.
So Drew Aller is your buffer.
That's what you want to do.
He's my buffer.
Because we've been doing this thing with a buffer quarterback.
There's your lottery ticket.
If he pops in those games in whatever the sample size of the wheels come off Shadour,
or if he gets injured.
And that's also how you ensure that Dishon Watson doesn't go on the field.
I like that idea.
It would be QB1, Shadour Sanders, QB2, Drew Aller,
QB3 slash clipboard holder and earpiece wearer Dishon Watson.
That's how I would do it at least.
Listen, I'm not against that.
But if it was up to me, we'd be doing a different quarterback room anyway in general.
That's also true.
If it was up to me, Dishon Watson.
The way the Browns have talked this off season, do you think that's realistic?
That's how they would approach it?
Because what you're describing right here is them actually giving up on Dishon Watson.
And I have no evidence that they've actually done that as of right now.
Maybe it's too many people with talking heads out there in the national media
that are giving me the idea that this is going to be a real thing with Dishon.
But they've given me no reason to think that this is not a real thing with Dishon.
Because in the world, Dishon conversation is so much more strange
if he's Shadour Sanders backup.
And in the event that Shadour is bad,
if he's not the competition, what is he going to be?
Then he's QB3.
You're out of sight out of mind.
Because what would be the incentive of putting them on the field in the middle of the season?
There's no reason.
Well, there's no reason.
Is that if Shadour doesn't work out, if Shadour actually busts the way that we're doing this boomer bust thing,
your season is shot, your season is over anyway.
So at that point,
So then I got another boomer bust though, it drew out.
My boomer busts is not a draw.
But at that point, you're just, you're honestly, you're just filling time as all you're doing.
There's nothing else.
There's no real nice way to put this.
I can get on board if you want to do anybody but Dishon.
I'm not against that.
I like that because I don't want to see Dishon play football because I think it's a massive waste of time.
But at that part of the season, you're already in massive waste of time space anyway.
If anything, what you're trying to do is get somebody that can confirm that you finished the job.
You finished the job of getting the number one overall pick.
Like the job then is to make sure that you suck badly enough to be able to get the number one pick.
And I trust Dishon to do that.
He can pull that off.
If he doesn't get hurt.
But I hear what you're saying though.
I hear what you're saying.
And if you have somebody that is squeezed in between there, it gives you another chance to throw them out there.
You can find out whether or not there's that boomer bust mentality for Shador.
It works the same way for quarterback number two.
And then if it doesn't work, which it shouldn't be expected to work.
But if it doesn't work, then all right, you wash your hands clean of it.
I don't know if that takes you out of that quarterback then being a backup for the 2027 quarterback.
And we're getting way too deep into this and I understand that and I get that.
So we're just going to move on from here.
But the reality is that there's a lot of options that they can take this thing.
When it comes to what Albert's saying, I'm intrigued that Albert thinks this is not only a realistic possibility,
but one that he is enticed by because for myself, although I've been saying for months,
I think it's a reality that the Browns are going to live in.
I don't see them actually doing it.
2647 Ford of alone 92. We come on back.
How much of the Cavs postseason is dependent on Evan Mulbley?
