For all, no problem. All right, gentlemen. There's been some, I don't know if it's like credible speculation, but there's been some wondering, could this be the year the Vikings are forced to do hard knocks? Let's explore that topic here in a moment. We are less than a month away as well from the
purple daily 2026 draft party presented by standard heating and air conditioning. Also shout out, Roku, Grandpa's Barbecue, Victory Tire for supporting this thing. The tickets are sold out at Mystic Lakes Hot Pouse. It will be live on YouTube Thursday, April 23rd, and there is a wait list at scorenorth.com slash draft party, but we can't wait. Super excited. There'll be a night two stream as well. And Joe, we love ourselves some Mystic Lake, particularly that Hot Pouse. Definitely do. Hot Pouse, a great place to watch games. If you are, I mean, this is as far as a sports weekend's go. This one is going to be fantastic. You got college basketball. Baseball has started. Hockey and basketball games as well. Mystic Lake Hot Pouse. Why? Because they have a ton of TVs. Here's another reason. They know what games to put those TVs on. You're not going to go in there and have to ask. They're going to have the games on. It's also great food, great drink, great fun. And if you're coming to the draft party, may I suggest this.
Don't make a night of it. Make a weekend or a couple of days by staying at the hotel at Mystic Lake. A ton of fun to be had there. And then in the morning, go down to the spa. Enjoy the spa. Enjoy all Mystic Lake has to offer Mystic Lake dot com Mystic Lake dot com. So 10 there have been 26 seasons. If you include the in season version of hard knocks. Well, two of those were AFC North NFC East, which I they're kind of kind of those. They've done in season hard knocks since 2021. So 26 seasons of hard knocks and the Vikings have never been featured. And it hasn't the rule been like if you make the playoffs, you don't you then you don't for years, it was like you don't have to do it the next year. They've changed a bunch of those rules now, but it used to be yes, new coach. You didn't have to do it. You made the playoffs. Didn't have to do it. I think it was made to play us in the last two years for a while. Yeah.
So A, would you want to see the Vikings on hard knocks this season? And B, if so, what do you want to be on earth and revealed in the behind the scenes nature of said show? The quarterback situation. I mean, that alone, that alone would be fantastic. And the answer to the question is, absolutely, I do. It's overdue. I thought I thought that 2025 could could have been great fun. JJ McCarthy, you're coming off. Now, I think the playoff thing might be out. So I think the Vikings, the Vikings were eligible, but there might have been some things that went on behind the scenes where they were able to stop it from happening a year ago. But far as I know now, those things are all gone. If there's ever a time to do it, it's now Kyler Murray trying to revive his career. JJ McCarthy in this unknown world, Justin Jefferson on your roster. Do I need to go on? Let's get this done. Yes, hard knocks. Love it. Yes. Full disclosure. Never really been a huge hard knocks fan. I really had it. I never, I've never dabbled in it too much. And not because,
well, it is because like I just don't really care about the Miami dolphins in 2018 that if I'm if I'm being fully honest for you and I don't really want to see the behind the scenes stuff of that. It was the Cleveland Browns. Browns. And there are some boring puts in respect on the bros. There's some really good ones and there's some really boring ones. So like I've never really had in a huge like affinity for hard knocks. I'm torn here because I would love for some behind the scene stuff with this. But I also would love just a little bit of a regular normal offseason. And I understand the intrigue that is here with this current. Wait, what do you mean you want a regular normal offseason? I don't want team. I don't want just an insane magnifying glass on what I think is already a temperature building thing for this franchise. Why not? Are you crazy? This is we live for cook these clowns. We live for this. I will sell the show's off the Vikings. I will selfishly watch it and it will be great. But also there's a part of me that would also just like
them just go about their business and not have everyone watching them for this offseason. There is a thing it would be like bad for it would be bad for the the Vikings to reach their full potential and get the work done that they need to get done. This is what they have hard knocks but the show's been going on since what 2000. There's a deeper dive research project here. How many times did hard knocks derail an NFL team? Yes irreparably. But nonetheless I'm sorry and I get I get your point but the Vikings have escaped this since 2000. It's time to quit ducking it. It's time to embrace hard knocks TCO performance center. I mean if you ranked right now all of the teams in the NFL based on the interesting nature of like if hard knocks were to document all 32 teams now the like the bills were kind of boring. The bills were hard knocks last year. There's no like and so I guess the drama there is like why haven't you won a Super Bowl yet? We're trying because Patrick Holmes exists. The Bears in 2024 were kind of interesting because of Caleb and then
your butterfly or coach etc. But are there any objectively? I know for us obviously we live in a Vikings world here on Purple Daily but are there other teams that would even challenge the Vikings for being more interesting to show on hard knocks this year? Well I'll say this just because I feel like there's an undercurrent of drama all the time. I don't know the last time that they were featured. The Eagles would always be fun because Sireani run such a weird camp. Like he just a weird dude. So the Eagles come to mind. I'm trying to think of like new storylines that would be great to watch or fun to watch. Yeah it's there's a lot. I mean there's like like anything Jim Harbaugh would be kind of interesting. Yeah and he has he been have the chargers the chargers have not been featured in recent years right? No the last the last time the charge well 2020 the pandemic
year it was rams and chargers were being featured. Okay. Maybe that was the easiest way to just a one calf fell right here near each other. Yeah. Which is which is pretty pretty recent. I just think that that hearing leaves Schreiber narrate the Vikings train a camp. I mean those dalsatones those dalsatones Kevin O'Connell has had some trying times of late. I love that. The quarterback whisper walks his way onto the practice field. It's a hot mug with his brethren. Yes. And he just turned up on Kevin O'Connell. If you go to Wikipedia just do like hard knocks it obviously has the summary of everything and during 2002 they did the cowboys and they have like highlights of what happened throughout that season. And the first one for the cowboys man that there were some dark cowboys years here in the early 2000s. The first one Quincy Carter's pressure to stay the consistent starting quarterback after the acquisition of Chad Hutchinson as a backup quarterback was dark dark days and Jerry Jones as far as I know is the only owner to offer up his team. There was
was there was a year after that. Yeah. Where where they couldn't find when Jerry Jones was like I'll do it. Oh wait for sure. Yeah Jerry Jones. I remember that because the show went away it started in oh one with the Ravens. Yeah. And then the oh two one and then it went away for a few years and I remember it was a big deal the oh seven. And if I recall because the that was one of the years where the Vikings and the chiefs still played at River Falls and did the scrimmage. It wasn't that the year that there was a huge fight which we're like oh seven. I feel like there was a fight no seven but we were like they're covering and it was her med words and no no I I think the year there was the fight was Leslie Frazier was the Viking coach by then because I remember him trying to I thought it was him I could be wrong but yeah your challenge be a challenge to keep these players from I am so excited to get to America feel. Love love. So I said to get to Mall of America feel that
metronome place yeah against the San Francisco 49ers whatever you do challenge whatever you do do not forget to name every single sponsor but I would love to see it I think it would be I think the insight and and just to be clear to you these teams get first crack so they get so like the Vikings would get to watch the episode and take things out so you're not seeing everything yeah like if there's a free for all behind the scenes you ain't going to see it but just the access that it gives you I think would be incredibly intriguing to watch Kevin O'Connell would would edit out all of the Jay Jay McCarthy parts or blur them blur his it's like his work year when he disappeared from the website like all the photos were off you're right do you remember that yeah they they went that's always been a mysterious layer to this is they have been very protective of him with media for for two years but specifically the first year year and a half yeah we obviously like
we don't do a ton of guests on this show but thought it'd be fun to get him on and they they put the blockade up the team like the organization put the blockade up on that a couple times but the most mysterious thing was all the different like training camp or offseason photo albums that they put on Vikings.com you could click to 200 photos and there be none of Jay Jay McCarthy even though he was out there practicing because you were trying to find something I think to post on like the website or something and you know like AP AP image because we have like subscription that's what yeah they were taking photos of them but Vikings.com was not putting photos up of him that's right for chunks of time it's hilarious but um yeah okay I mean from Declan standpoint I get it like it creates some extra hassle and some drama and it's just like you're thinking about things and you're doing like interviews that you otherwise wouldn't be doing but I just feel like there's so much fodder behind the scenes for this team maybe the NFL would say well you already did the cousins quarterback thing a few years ago uh well no actually they didn't do that cousins did
that with the Falcons the Jefferson receiver ones the only one that right no no he did it both times and then he came back I know you're shocked by this but then he came back into the second one presented by great mississa really love Minnesota huh god that weird blood boil when I watch that scene what are you talking about you've been at least back in Atlanta that's the solid crisis got to smile on yeah that wasn't the question actually we love Minnesota like that was like that's some people I know but not Kurt cousins oh we love Minnesota but gosh that bag looks good in Atlanta yeah doesn't it that's the wrong question do you by the way before we leave here this little little check down Sunday episode are you guys surprised at all that the Kurt cousins returning to the Vikings thing didn't pick up really any steam at all in the last month month and a half yeah yeah like zero zero steam at all what so yeah yeah and if Kyler hadn't if Kyler hadn't been released or wasn't going to to be I think he would have I think it would have but yeah I'm surprised because
it certainly had steam and and you know from a national perspective and also a local one because if you connected the dots it made sense I can't help but think though in retrospect here's why I think it might not have picked up steam and here's why I think he's still not side one there aren't a ton of jobs starting available but two it sounds like the last reports were he wants to exceed the offset language so you know Kyler's here for two dollars right and and the Cardinals are paying the freight now it sounds like I think Kurt is due was 15 million 12 million something like that from the Falcons it sounds like he wants above and beyond that yeah which would surprise me zero and you know what at this point if you if you weren't a first-way free agent and if the if like the Steelers or maybe the only appealing opening if they're not already in agreement with Rogers but they're not offering you 15 20 million dollars teams do still have cap space later in
the summer and like the like the Vikings went into the season with like 15 million in cap space and just roll you can roll it over to the next year if you want to sure but he's probably better off getting toward training camp and just seeing if there's a change in an injury or something and then say it no oh this guy broke his leg oh what a bummer like called it in theory and I hate even like saying this like knock on a wood but like let's say Kyler something happens to Kyler in a freaking mini camp right and now it's McCarthy Wentz who you like as a QB 2 I wouldn't be shocked if they would call Kurt Cousins in that scenario say why don't you come in here be QB 1 or compete maybe I don't think you pay him 20 but I but that I think that's what he wants yeah he's waiting for legs to explode in training camp so he can he can again continue as a Hall of Fame bag getter make no mistake this contract signing ceremony presented by great clips have been downloaded the great clips app great clip let's go and by Kirk's great teeth
