We return again to Phyllis White, who has some more delightful information about the Sherlock
Holmes radio broadcasts.
Phyllis?
Rathbone and Bruce were making films, and they had just one day off per week for the radio
work.
They received the scripts a couple of days early to look over if they had time, and they
would turn up at the studio for the afternoon of broadcast day.
The first reading would be rather slow and broken up as there was discussion and maybe
a few changes, and there would be a reading for timing to fit to the exact number of minutes
available.
It was more likely to be too long and too short, and Edna would flip over a few pages
and knock out a couple of words here and a couple on another page, and it would miraculously
come out exactly to the minute.
So they went through the rest of the afternoon, as the temple and pressure increased and the
show sharpened up.
At the end of the afternoon, they went on the air for the Eastern United States.
Then there was a couple of hours break, and everybody would go out to dinner, and they
would come back and do it all over again for the West Coast.
I feel very thankful now that these live and ephemeral shows were captured on disk, and
that they could now reach a new audience.
Now, please join Phyllis and I as we listen to the Iron Vox.
This episode, from the life of Sherlock Holmes, will be transmitted to our men and women
oversees by shortwave and to the worldwide facilities of the Armed Forces Radio Service.
Petri Wying brings you...
Basil F-bone and Nigel Bruce and the new adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
With Petri family, the family that took time to bring you good wine, invite you to listen
to Dr. Watson tell us another exciting adventure he shared with his old friend at Master Detective
Sherlock Holmes.
Well, this is it, New Year's Eve, and I wish you could be here with us this evening so
we could toast each other with a glass of Petri California port.
As you know, port wine is long been a favorite wine for celebrating a happy occasion.
That's because port is a wine rich in tradition, and you couldn't ask for a more delicious
port in Petri port.
Petri port is a deep, glowing red color, beautiful to look at and wonderful to taste, with a hearty
full flavor that's right from the heart of the grape, and when you serve Petri Portia friends
tonight or anytime, remember you can serve it proudly because the name Petri is the proudest
name in the history of a Mexican wine.
And now I'm sure Dr. Watson's waiting for us, so let's drop in and see.
Good evening, Dr..
What do you mean, Mr. Batel?
Drop your usual tear.
Thank you.
Ah, that's it.
Well, did you enjoy the Christmas holiday?
Well, I've had a will of a time, thank you.
But I don't think I can face a turkey or a men's pie for at least another year.
How about you, Dr. Boy, I had a very present week to my boy, Buffy's, visitors, an affecting
number of Christmas messages to be honest with him.
I say, you got a new pie.
Is that a Christmas present?
Yes, you pipe.
You tobacco pouch and a pound of my favorite tobacco.
All of them sent to me from London by an old clowns and a friend of mine, Ian Dunbar.
An old clown, huh?
Well, do you mean he was one of your patients or was he someone that you and the great Sherlock Holmes helped?
The latter, Mr. Batel, as a matter of fact, it's with the seabing this gift that reminded me of the story I've decided to tell you tonight.
The story in which Ian Dunbar played a permanent fight?
And how did it begin?
The day before New Year's Eve in 1899.
Sherlock Holmes and I sat in opposite corners of a first-class velvet carriage.
It was fed towards Edinburgh in the flying sculpture.
What's it to you and Sherlock Holmes up there, Doctor?
It started over the holidays, Mr. Batel.
My old friends to Walter Dunbar, those Holmes and me to spend a few days with him at Dunbar Castle, about 20 miles outside Edinburgh.
After we left things cross-station, Holmes, his sharp, eager face frame in his dear stopping cap,
dipped into the bungalow press papers and people with him.
We left Bedford far behind us before he thrust the last one of them under the seat,
seen the course and offered me his pick-up.
Care for the gal watching?
No, I ain't going to throw a little stick to the pipe.
Flying Star Spines living up to its name.
They're going splendidly.
Our first visit to three-and-a-half miles an hour.
Oh, I haven't noticed the automobile.
No, have I?
But the telegraph first, on this night, it's the other path.
With the aid of a watch, the calculation is a simple one.
What's my development?
We have several hours ahead of us.
Tell me more about Walser Dunbar.
I have a feeling that he's in some kind trouble.
If you haven't once, talk about it.
Well, it's not exactly trouble, Holmes.
There's a strange problem that confronts the Dunbar.
There's a problem.
It'll be settled at midnight tomorrow.
Oh, he is.
Night New Year's Eve, eh?
Yes, exactly, but to really appreciate the story I have to begin by telling you the death
of Walser Thomas Dunbar.
The father of the present Dunbar.
He was severely wounded in Waterloo, though he managed to last that long enough to get back to Dunbar.
The story goes that as he lay there on his gestate, he killed his wife of his plan.
Yeah, I'm fine.
Uh, didn't agree with last.
Ah, fetched the barracks here, home from Waterloo.
What if I fetched the waterloo as well?
Oh, I shall ask.
I'm not afraid to die.
I'll let you guys near as if I should never see the child you bear.
They say, what was Scott not coming yet?
Eh, can he visit the deathbed of his own friend?
Oh, who's there?
I think he was sending my back.
Bye, Thomas.
It's me.
Eh.
I'm leaving an unborn son behind me on a die.
Now, I don't trust women or children or things for that matter.
Put the best part of my wealth and gold and the big iron back she'll find under the bed.
The money's there.
Eh, something else for a rainy day.
You have to keep that box in trust for me Sunday.
You can kind of dump it to my boy under New Year's Eve before his twenty-first birthday.
And he'll be a man and wise enough to know how to use it.
Do you understand, Thomas?
Hi, Thomas.
What's the pose?
Your bear is a girl.
Girl?
You tell me it'll be a boy.
And we'll name him Walter Rept.
My good friend.
So, Walter Scott.
Interesting story, Watson.
And that child, of course, is the gentleman we are going to see now.
So, Walter Dunbar.
Exactly.
And the first granite was a friend of Sir Walter Scott, by his son, composed of uroclinogens.
My, sir.
It's a family, singular, rich in literary friendship.
And it's not very funny, huh?
Continue, I suppose.
You can guess what happened.
The Thomas kept you up a doctor with a stress bar.
The New Year's Eve before the granite's twenty-first birthday.
And the poor child was born on February 29th.
It was a leap year.
Oh, of course, Walter is waiting for his own box for a go.
He'll be eighty-four next year, yet legally.
There's only one birthday every four years, and he has the law.
He...
Twenty-one.
Not most of his situation.
Though I'm afraid, Walter finds it far from entertaining.
The alloyers must have been extremely scrupulous, and abiding by the letter of the document.
The old family bird off is dead now, of course.
But he too has a great grandson, William Birdock, who still handles the Dunbar Estate.
He'll be at the castle tonight to formally hand over the iron box.
I'm delighted to accept the holiday invitation, Sir Walter.
My dear fellow, I've heated the rest, but there's always loads to stick to one.
This situation may pose a nice little problem for me.
Problem?
Yes, I'm reasonably certain that the age of Sir Walter Dunbar will get his iron box full of gold on this New Year's Eve either.
Let me put the oil for love. We shall see.
Dr. Watson, I'm glad to see you and Mr. Holmes here at the castle.
Thank you, my boy.
Holmes is the Indian Dunbar.
So, what is going on?
How do you do, Mrs. Endon?
I'm very proud to meet you, Mr. Holmes.
I've heard of those about you.
A grandfather will be down in a few moments.
Let's go into the library, tell her.
I imagine the world is quite excited about that terminus, isn't he?
No, wouldn't you be?
If you'd waited 63 years too long for an inheritance.
Thank the Lord, I have the force to be born on the Prozeic date of August 21st.
In the event of your granddaughter's death, you went to the next diner that day.
Yes, Mr. Holmes.
You see, my father was killed two months ago at Mathematics.
Yes, he went about in the papers, my boy.
I'm sorry.
Thank you, Doctor.
The opening of the box isn't going to be the only ceremony at midnight.
Dorothy and I are announcing our engagement.
Do you like it?
Dorothy's small.
He and her father are staying here too.
My congratulations.
You're just indeed an indeed man too.
Thank you.
It's been quite tough over the past though.
He's a businessman and doesn't impress with titles when they aren't accompanied by a suitable income.
When we told him about the inheritance, Peter Lent has engaged his consent.
Ah, here's Dorothy now.
Dorothy Darling.
I want you to meet two friends of mine.
Mr. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.
How do you do?
Now, have you been involved?
Oh, I am idea.
From what this young man's been telling us, I gather that congratulations are in order.
Thank you.
I finally persuaded father that he and would make a worthy son-in-law.
For a while, I was afraid we'd have to look for Grant and Beans.
They could've caught a John's bread and cheese and law that'd raise a parental rise.
It's just as they do in the storybook.
Oh, it's a walker.
There you are.
What's in the dear boy?
Oh, yeah.
And this must be your friend Sherlock Holmes.
How do you do about that?
We're aware of a young nipper who'll be 21 at midnight.
Oh, again, woman.
May I introduce Mr. Herbert Smiley?
I do, sir.
I believe that we have congratulated you on the engagement of your daughter.
That was the pose to remain a secret until midnight.
The Dunbar Box was finally open.
Didn't make her out here, Herbert.
The children are in love and have got her certain money on Ian.
And it's New Year's Eve.
That sends her into the spirit of the occasion.
Bring out the glasses, Ian.
I've had some bottles of my special pride to know.
It's the finest port in Scotland.
The cream of Dunbar.
My father read the first bottle down the year before I was born.
And the drink of the brew was surely one of the cockles he had.
Oh, my mouth's watering already.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
When is this a lawyer felt like a murder of him?
Oh, any moment, Herbert.
As soon as he arrives dinner, that will be ready for the evening ceremony.
Are you bringing the famous iron box within some order?
To three dozen, they won't get any dinner, Holmes.
Ian passed the glasses on my boy.
Ah!
Here you are, my box.
Good evening, sir.
Oh, you've got the box we are seeing.
Now the purge is complete.
It means the reduction.
This small, her father missed a small.
My grandson Ian, you know.
The Sherlock Holmes.
Doctor Watson.
Are you doing this?
I saw you on late, sir.
My train was delayed.
Oh, that's all right, my dog.
You're here.
And you brought the box.
That's all that matters.
Here you are, young lawyer, at length.
Here, I'll help you, boy.
I must say that this is all exciting.
Holmes, the famous iron box with its inheritance of gold.
Yes, and from the size of the box.
The box.
Yes, I've decided to estimate its cubic content in gold at around 5,000 pounds.
Not about some, perhaps, a business man like Mr. Small,
but a windfall with an impotunious scot pattern.
No, that's what you do.
A strong young man, Mr. Möder.
How do you mean strong, Holmes?
A box that finds full of golden sovereigns,
would weigh considerable amounts.
And yet the lawyer carried it single-handed.
No, that we're all assembled.
I'm going to propose a toast.
So it's still some who is off yet.
Let's drink to the new year.
It means a lot to some others.
To 19-hundreds.
19-hundreds.
We can toast more than just 1900s of water.
We should drink to the new century that's about to begin.
Good idea, daughter.
Oh, I'm afraid that wouldn't be quite appropriate, Miss Small.
To be accurate, the trickiest century won't begin until January 1st,
19-hundred and one.
And not 1900.
Of course.
That's it.
Dorothy?
I'm afraid I won't take place sometime, yes.
Father, what are you talking about?
I read an article on the other day that said just the same thing as you, Dr. Watson.
And what's more, it said something even more important.
It said that 1900 is not a repeat.
Oh, rubbish.
Leapier comes every four years.
There was one in 1896.
Then obviously 1900 is one.
I think Mr. Small may be right.
What do you say, Mr. Who's do you know?
Well, I hope no one would bring up this boy.
But it's the ultimate problem I refer to on the thing that you're watching.
Boom!
For heaven's sake, answer.
Is 1900 a leapier or no?
I'm afraid it's not, so what?
No.
Because of a slight imbalance that would otherwise and be produced in the calendar.
Of the even century years and the first divisible by 400 are leapiers.
In other words, 1600 with a leapier, the year 2000 will be a leapier.
But 1800 and 1900 are not leapiers.
Then you have no birthday next year, so what?
And I'm afraid I can't open the box tonight.
And the done box won't get down here.
And you, my dear, don't marry for a few more years.
I won't allow you to marry a spopper.
Mr. Holmes, are you sure of your fact?
I'm very much afraid that I had to marry a man, though.
This is terrible.
I can't stand anymore.
No, no, no, no, no.
Don't take it too bad.
There's no other here.
Yes, think this.
It's it after all.
You only have to wait until four years.
Another four years.
At my age, young man.
At my age, Colonel.
I shall never live that long.
Hey, what is it, Angus?
Dinner is for Parcher, Walter.
You can have it as soon as you're ready, sir.
Oh, what a miserable meal, Holmes.
The horse has gone to his room.
The young lover is a million tears.
The small and the lawyer, Merrick, seems to be positively gloating.
Yes, and Mr. Thin hadn't said I'm just working the new year.
But that asked at least make the best of it.
I think I don't have a talk that's a Walter.
And you might be wondering.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I think I don't have a talk that's a Walter.
And you might be a chap.
Find out, fly and chill up the young folks.
I'm a guy with experiences.
It's easier than anything.
Find out the trouble.
It's quite an idea.
I'll join you in the library.
Call me if you want me.
Oh.
There you are, my dear.
Hello, Dr. Watt.
All alone in front of the flat.
I'm afraid when I'm not in very good spirits.
Oh, never know.
I'll sit down here and join you if you don't mind.
Missy real love is coming.
You know.
You're very kind, Dr. Watt.
I was just trying to persuade you into a love with me.
But if you're doing most on gallons, you won't even consider it.
How can I, darling?
I've got under 200 pounds a year of my own right.
How could we live on that?
I was counting up money the grandfather was going to give us to get me started.
No, no, no.
Miss Smaller little earlier, you popped the brick to green and bread and cheese and food.
Love it, a cocky.
Yes, it.
There's a lot to be said for it, you know.
To be said for it, yes, Dr.
But have you ever tried it?
Not literally my boy, but to...
I mean, tell me if we married and my wife and I would...
Married?
I had very little money.
In fact, my income was just about the sum that you mentioned.
And...
We were very happy.
Far but you have a profession, Dr.
Look at me.
I've been trained for nothing except to be loved at Dunbar Castle.
I can't support a wife on tradition.
But you're young, Ian.
You can get some kind of position I should.
Of course, of course.
As a matter of fact, I think that...
What is it?
What's wrong?
A devil's worker put Watson.
Come with me over and you, Mr. Dunbar.
Mr. Holmes, that happened.
Mr. Walter.
I'm into his room.
It was in darkness.
But in the room, I saw two figures struggling by the open case.
One of the rooms was the water.
As I entered, he disappeared from sight.
If the tackle had pushed him out of the window,
he'd have the most...
How do you?
The other end got away in the darkness.
We need to step lanterns and do our most at once.
Though I'm very much afraid Mr. Dunbar that your grandfather is beyond our health.
Dr. Watson will be back in just a second, so...
I just like to remind you that if you want to serve a wine over the holidays,
that you're sure the ladies will enjoy,
serve Petri California Muscatel.
Petri Muscatel is a golden wine with a wonderful flavor.
A flavor of big, flump muscat grapes.
You know what a flavor that?
I'm sure you'll find that Petri Muscatel is the favorite wine of all women.
This is Petri Pour.
This is the favorite wine with men.
And incidentally, if you're not sure which to get,
Petri Muscatel or Petri Pour,
don't buy one.
Buy two.
Get them both, and you'll be sure to please everyone.
Now to get back to our story.
Someone had pushed poor old Sir Walter out of his bedroom window
and entered the moat below.
Isn't that right, Dr. Watson?
Yes.
The bar fell, of course.
We had lanterns as fast we couldn't rush outside.
It was a hopeless task.
The water was eight or ten feet deep,
and it seemed obvious that the wilderness of the water
wouldn't have a chance of saving himself.
If you search John, the thicker,
bobbing lanterns, the skying figures in the foster moon light,
forming a weird.
Bring your lantern over here.
Aye, sir.
Can you see anything home?
Nothing.
I don't see why your friend doesn't call the police, Dr. Watson.
The company's nothing.
You thought there might be a chance of finding the old man alive
as a small.
You want to avoid a scandal as possible?
I'll say, sir.
As well as the Donbos.
The scandal can't touch me or Dorothy over this.
An engagement was never announced.
And it's a great pity, sir.
I could think some you blood in your family.
It'd be a great improvement.
Or being completely impersonal.
And you'll be compensated after, sir.
Well, Holmes, if you're giving up hope?
I don't know.
The paper never finds even that blackness and graphing hope.
I have to call the police.
What time is it?
Start here.
You know the time?
What did you call me, Mr. Holmes?
Sir, yeah.
Hi.
You're here.
He does seem a bit to your homes, but of course you're right.
If your grandfather's dead, Mr. Donbos,
you're the better in it now.
And the time is set in.
It's a quarter to 12, Mr. Holmes.
A quarter out of an hour for the new year.
Sir, yeah.
Doesn't that thank for just something to you?
Yes.
Yes, it does.
So I'm the new tenant, am I?
Stay weapon.
There'll be no more talk of the police for 15 minutes.
I want all of you to come back to the castle with me.
As the time of midnight rings out, I shall have a statement to make.
A statement that I want you all to hear.
Oh, I want you both to go back here for a home.
It's something very funny going on.
I tell you, I don't like the look of it.
And I watch them like to look at it very much.
Oh, if you wouldn't be seduced mysterious, what are you up to?
You haven't taken a step yet towards finding the murder?
Have I?
And I wonder what color is the...
The frustration on Mr. Holmes' brow.
More human, it's smaller than I wonder.
What causes the singular look of apprehension on the face of murder?
The young lawyer.
You remember, of course, on my remarking how easily he carried the large iron buckers?
Yeah.
He took a strong man to throw some water out of the window.
What?
A new year is approaching.
Ladies and gentlemen, in view of our recent tragedy,
this is one New Year's Eve when none of us feels like song and delicacy.
But there still remains a ritual beauty for a meat of a farm.
Mr. Murdock, open the iron box, please.
But I can't do that.
It was only to be open for your grandfather, no, Mr. Murdock.
The phrase was that it was to be opened on the New Year's Eve
before the baronets' 21st birthday.
I am now the baronet.
And I shall be 21 next year on August 21st.
Open the box, please, Mr. Murdock.
Yes, darling, how practical, Mr. Murdock.
I hope you think about it.
Mr. Murdock, open that box.
Very well.
I'll tell you.
When I'm afraid you're in for something of a shock.
Great, Scotty, the box is empty.
Except for a sheet of newspaper in the bottom.
What's the meaning of this murder?
Read that paper, sir.
And you'll understand.
I owe you four thousand sovereigns.
And it's signed Alexander Murdock.
On behalf of Murdock Murdock, lawyers.
You'd better explain this.
It's the family skeleton, sir, Ian.
That note is signed by my great grandfather.
The one that witnessed the original de-concerned in the box.
As soon as I was born on that February 29th,
my great grandfather realized
the money wouldn't have to be produced for 84 years.
And so he stole it.
He borrowed it.
He always intended to pay back, but he was never able to.
When he died, he told my father of his secret.
My father and turned told me.
We've always planned to put back the money, sir, Ian.
But we've never been able to.
This is daylight robbery.
You could prosecute the me and the firm still in business.
You can ruin them.
You can sue them.
But every day they have.
Mr. Smith's small.
You've already shown a marked diversion to my family.
I suggest you allow me to handle their affairs.
Ravoli.
How dare you, Scotty.
Oh, your rob.
No one's going to their room.
No one's leaving here until a police arrive.
I'm convinced that one of you murdered my grandfather tonight.
And if you ask me, it's obvious who that someone is.
Who, doctor?
What's the use of murder?
You came here patting the kill for all to work.
Because you never until it opened that box.
You thought that your secret would die with him.
That's a lie.
I was going to tell him everything and then ask for time.
Pay the money.
I didn't kill him.
Of course he didn't.
There's your murderer.
You yourself, Ian.
Brother, what are you saying?
I'm saying that Ian's the murderer.
He saw that the box wasn't going to be open for another four years.
He realized that the money couldn't marry Dara Bisto.
He killed his grandfather in the Lord of the Box open.
You're trying to cover yourself.
You pushed her out of that window tonight.
You thought that if he died, the box would never be open.
Dara Bisto couldn't marry me.
You don't want to die.
Yes I am.
You come, I saw him.
Do you see him remarkably calm?
Do I?
What do you mean?
I must say I'm absolutely fascinated by listening to three people.
I'm accusing each other of murder.
And each of them producing perfectly sound motives.
It's a remarkable example of the dangers of reasoning
from motive alone.
give a loan. We should profit by experience, what's it?
Mr. Holmes, how can you be so calm?
There's a murderer in this room.
Mr. Rads is getting a little out of hand.
The small, let's conclude it.
You better come out now.
What?
That's stupid.
It's moving.
A new year for you all.
Run for it.
So what?
Oh, I must see you, though.
Oh, so what are you all right?
What kind of a game have you been playing?
In a funny game that Holmes and I invented.
You might call it forcing the issue.
I was determined to have the box open
before the next four years.
Well, there was still a life of looking inside it.
But the trickery of your family, Murdoch,
has made me a very tough man.
So what are I supposed to pay back the money in a few years?
I swear I will.
They're too late to do me any good.
But I'll take care of the day and get to it.
Half of mine have prosecuted.
Run for it.
The money isn't important now that you're old.
You were counting on it just the same, my boy.
So that you could marry Dorothy.
I know that.
You never marry a pauper.
I won't allow it.
But I'm thinking when you cops chop me father
and I am going to marry Ian.
Be quiet.
The water?
It's a very unsavory business.
I think that you owe us an explanation
of your behavior tonight.
You tell them homes.
I fancy a way to drop a cleaner done by it.
Watching you all search for my body and the mo...
It's made me...
The explanation is a very simple one, ladies and gentlemen.
When you arrived here tonight, Mr. Murdoch,
I knew from the way you handled the box
that it could not contain the sum of gold.
Mr. Postal.
I'm sure you suspected code and devised a plan
to post the opening of the box.
Yes, and so water was an eco-conspirator.
Of course I was.
Ian is 21 next August.
Supposing...
Supposing I have died after he came of age
and before my next birthday, four years ends,
the box would never have been opened.
And so we invented the fake murder story.
By the way, Ian,
I must congratulate you for grasping the possibilities
of the situation so speedily.
If you happen to mandate the opening of the box
the Murdoch secret might still be a secret.
Is the cover plan wrong?
Is it too bare that it had held such a miserable ending?
I'm not sure to be hell finished with an error.
Mr. Murdoch.
Yes, Mr. Holmes.
Do you say the job family took 4,000 pounds
from their box?
Yes, Mr. Murdoch.
I would have swung from its size
that it would hold close to the 5,000.
And in your account of a legend watching,
you told me that Thomas Dundar
stated that his deathbed
that he had put something else in his room.
Something...
For a rainy day, is that it?
Did the Murdoch find that extra something?
No, Mr. Holmes.
They found the thing that the gold.
And it's very odd.
I think I'll take a closer look at that box.
It seems to be a night of chilling secrets.
I think you might as well know father.
But if you don't give your consent, I shall reload for you.
Hello, brother. Hello, brother.
No such thing.
That's my other solution, young lady.
But I hardly think it will be necessary.
What do you mean, Holmes?
For me to show you all the treasure of a Dundar's.
What are your phone calls?
The something for a rainy day.
That old to Thomas God.
You see, since the cubic contents of the box
obviously differed from my calculations,
I did use the existence of a false pattern.
I was correct.
And in that space, I found this.
Oh, it's a manuscript.
By itself, the manuscript is a book.
Look at the title page and see the author's name.
This to the Dundar.
Well, eh?
That's what it's called.
Oh, I wish it's called.
I think so, well done.
That's an original and unobvious manuscript
by your distinguished name.
They were proved with several times the gold
that is missing from that box.
Hey, you'll skip the day for us, Holmes, my boy.
God bless you.
Oh, this has been a stranger new year.
Never I knew.
But it turned out to be a funny one.
Thanks to you, Holmes.
We'll fill up your glasses.
We're going to drink a toast to the new year.
Why do you use to water?
This is really a happy occasion.
And let's complete it.
By singing the traditional song of the season.
All times time.
And in this case, when we sing,
should old acquaintance be forgot?
I feel that in our hearts,
we should be thinking of Walter Scott.
He died over 60 years ago.
He's made us all very happy tonight.
Should old acquaintance be forgot?
And have a wrongful heart.
Well, doctor, that turned out to be a very happy new year.
We're all concerned.
There's just one new year.
The dollar never forgets.
Well, I sure hope you'll always remember this one, too.
Oh, just a second, my boy.
That calls for a glass of porn.
Fine.
A world to a happy new year, my boy.
For you.
And for our many friends listening in.
And for you, doctor.
We're good.
Ah, that's good.
Dr. Tez indeed been a pleasant association for me.
You're the best storyteller I've ever known.
And the Petri family makes the best wine I've ever tasted.
Up it.
Just as they've been making wine for generations in the past.
The Petri family will continue to make fine wine in the future.
And it's about till I know that you'll always be here to tell us
just how good that Petri wine is.
Well, I hope so, doctor.
And I hope you'll always be right here beside me, too.
Tell another swell story about...
Oh, an answer, badly, doctor.
What new adventure are you planning to tell me next week?
Next week, Mr. Bartell, I'm going to tell you a weird story.
It starts with a series of murders on hence the heat.
And then, in the battle to the death.
In a burning wax work.
I call it the strange case of the murderer in wax.
Tonight's show I call this adventure was written by Dennis Green,
and was suggested by an incident in the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story,
The Silver Blades.
Music is by Dean Foster.
Mr. Rathbone appears through the courtesy of Metro Goldwood Mayor
and Mr. Bruce through the courtesy of Universal Pictures,
where they are now starring in the Sherlock Holmes series.
The Petri wine company of San Francisco, California
invites you to tune in again next week.
Same time, same station.
Sherlock Holmes comes to you from our Hollywood studio.
This is Harry Bartell, saying good night for the Petri family.
For a solid hour of exciting mystery dramas,
listen every Monday on most of these same stations at 8 o'clock,
to Michael Shane, followed immediately by Sherlock Holmes.
This is the Mutual Broadcasting System.
I would like to thank for this white,
for taking the time to tell us about fair husband Anthony Bartell,
and also about Chris Green and those wonderful times,
not so long ago, when Holmes and Watson were played by Rathbone and Bruce.
The two episodes you have just heard are part of the new adventures of Sherlock Holmes,
starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, and are in 1988,
copyrighted production of 221A,
Baker Street Associates.
The Sherlock Holmes stories, and the characters of Sherlock Holmes,
and Dr. John H. Watson, created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,

This is Ben Wright.
You want to join me again sometime soon,
or two more new adventures of Sherlock Holmes?
Thank you for listening.
