On March 19th, a notorious serial rapist from Northern England has died in prison at age 69. Andrew Davies, also known as Andrew Barlow and Andrew Longmeyer, was serving 13 life sentences for attacks on women in the 1980s. He earned the nickname, the Coronation Street rapist, for targeting victims in their terrorist homes across greater Manchester and nearby counties. Davies spent 34 years behind bars before his release on March 6th, 2023. But just six weeks later, he was sent back to prison for breaking license conditions and showing risky behavior that officials said could not be managed outside. Victims in their family spent a mix of relief and ongoing pain over his death. One survivor shared that while it's a relief, she still relives the trauma daily. Campaigners, including a local member of parliament, had fought hard to keep him locked up, warning of the danger he posed. Advances in DNA evidence linked him to more rapes from 1981 and 82, adding to his sentences in later years. His parole

appeal was denied in July 2024, after a panel ruled he remained a very high risk for serious harm. Davies passed away from natural causes on February 28th, 2026, at a prison near Donkaster. An investigation by the prisons and probation ombudsman is now underway, with thoughts staying with all those affected by his crimes.
