Sergeant Ansell's Bravery: A Knife Attack Hero

On March 27, a greater Manchester police sergeant showed incredible courage last year by stepping

in to protect his colleague from a knife attack during a routine traffic stop in Wally range.

Sergeant Tim Ansel took multiple staff to his neck, arm and body while shielding Sergeant Foster

from a 27-year-old man armed with a craft. Knife. The incident started as a simple road accident

on July 26, 2023, but quickly turned dangerous when the suspect came out of.

Nowhere and struck first. Ansel fought back to control the attacker, allowing another officer,

PC Marcus Wollstonecroft to use a taser and make the arrest. All three officers involved earned

top honors for their quick thinking, including the Chief Constable's annual bravery awards,

the John Egerton Bravery Award, and the Northwest Bravery Award. Their actions kept each other safe

and prevented any harm to bystanders. In April 2024, the attacker, Jacob Brown, received an

indefinite hospital order after admitting to attempted murder and three counts of, wounding with intent.

Brown had no link to the original crash. Recently, on March 25, Sergeant Ansel picked up the

King's Commendation for Bravery as St. James Pousson London of fitting recognition of how one split

second decision made all the difference that day.
