Senators' Trades: Regret or Success?

The Ottawa Senators have built a reputation for giving struggling players a fresh start, especially during their long rebuild when top talent was hard to attract. But they've also let go of some prospects too soon, only to watch them shine elsewhere. Forrest stand out, Mika Ziveneshad, Pavel Dmitra, Martin Straca, and Nick Paul. Back in 2016, the Senators traded a 22-year-old Ziveneshad, already a 20-goal score, to the New York Rangers for veteran Derek, Bersard to chase playoffs. Bersard managed just 39 points that year and got flipped soon after. Earlier examples include trading 1990s draft pick Dmitra after a solid junior stint. He later led St. Louis with big scoring seasons, swapping Straca, who had promised in a deal that brought back Wade Redden.
