Seattle Kraken's McMann on Fire, Eyeing Big Contract

Bobby McMahon has been lighting it up since the Seattle Kraken grabbed him from the Toronto Maple Leafs at the trade deadline. In just eight games, the left winger has seven goals and eleven points, averaging nearly 19 minutes of ice time per night. That's turn heads quick. Word from Insider Elliott Friedman is the Kraken told McMahon they want to lock him down this summer when he hits free agency. He's due for a huge bump from his current 1.35 million salary, probably a multi-year deal around 5 million per season on average. McMahon's a classic late bloomer, didn't stick full time in the NHL until age 27 last year. He topped out at 20 goals then, but this season he's at 26 goals and 43 points over 68 games. Toronto passed on extending him, shipping him out for a second round pick and a fourth rounder. Seattle's coach Dave Lambert has slotted him on the second line and it's paying off

With the salary cap rising, Kraken GM Jason Boderyl sees McMahon as a cornerstone, worth the splurge for four or five years to build their playoff. Push.
