Sean Payton Steps Back, Davis Webb Takes Play-Calling

On March 31st, Sean Payton, head coach of the Denver Broncos, made waves this off-season

by stepping back from play-calling duties and handing them.

Over to his new offensive coordinator, Davis Webb, it caught a lot of folks off guard

since Payton usually runs that show tight.

The offense had been grinding gears all season, with too much personnel shuffling and plays

reaching quarterback Bonix way too late, making everything feel sluggish on the field.

As lit up the debate, some cheer the change, tired of the clunkiness, while others speculated

the owner's twisted Payton's arm to make it happen.

But Broncos CEO Greg Penner set the record straight on Monday, confirming it was Payton's

call 100 percent, no pressure from above.

Payton himself noted the in-game process was slowing him down too much.

Now with Webb dialing up the plays, the dramas behind them, and the team can focus on sharpening

that attack for next season.
