School Caretaker's Killer Dies in Prison Attack

He had been on life support since another inmate struck him repeatedly over the head with a metal bar at Franklin Prison on February 26th. The victims, Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, vanished from their village in Sohom on August 4th, 2002, while outbuying sweets. He searched desperately for 13 days before remains turned up nearby, shocking the entire nation. Communities rallied in huge numbers, flooding Sohom with flowers and support outside the local church. Authorities still call it one of Britain's most heartbreaking cases, with ongoing sympathy for the grieving families. Hutley, then a school caretaker living with his partner Maxine Carr, received a life sentence with at least 40 years inside.
