Saints Sign Etienne for Explosive Backfield

The New Orleans Saints signed running back Travis Etienne to a four-year contract worth

$52 million to fix their week rushing attack.

Last offseason, New Head Coach Kellen Moore boosted the passing game, especially with rookie

quarterback Tyler Schoes starting, but the team ranked.

28th in rushing yards and 31st in yards per carry.

Etienne hails from Jennings, Louisiana and comes home after four solid seasons with

the Jacksonville Jaguars.

There, he rushed for over 1,000 yards in three seasons and scored 32 total touchdowns.

Saints fans see this as a smart move since Alvin Camara has lost some speed and the team's

running backs manage just eight runs over 20 yards.

Since 2022, with only one over 30, meanwhile, Etienne has 23 runs of 20 plus yards and 12

over 30 in that span.

The Saints passed on a cheaper rookie like Notre Dame's Jeremiah Love, who might not have

been available at pick 8 anyway.

Instead, they grabbed the second best free agent back behind Kenneth Walker III, a proven

player with less risk.

Etienne thrives in zone blocking schemes like the Saints prefer and adds receiving skills,

though not quite a Camara's level.

Together, they could create a dynamic, explosive back feel for next season.
