Sahnya Jah Joins Cincinnati, Seeks Turnaround

0:00On April 25, Sonya Ja, the former South Carolina gamecock, just announced she's heading to Cincinnati for the 2026-27 season. This marks her fourth college in four years, after stints at South Carolina, Arizona, and SMU. She started as a four star recruit at South Carolina, her freshman year, showing flashes off the bench before an indefinite suspension cut her time. Short, Coach Don Staley wished her well as she entered the transfer portal. Ja followed her coach, Adia Barnes, to Arizona for sophomore year, where she dealt with another suspension but got a strong nod from Staley. Then she tagged along again to SMU last season. At SMU, Ja had her best year yet, averaging 9.1 points and 4.7 rebounds while starting a dozen games. But the team struggled, finishing 8 and 23 overall. Now Cincinnati, who went 11 and 20 last year under Coach Katrina Maryweather, gets a shot at turning things around with Ja in the mix next season.
