S4E13 - "Diva"

I'm Madeline and I'm Paul and we're recapping Glee. I've seen it five times and I've seen

it zero and we're going to be recapping every week each episode of Glee until we finish

off all six seasons. And last we kill each other first.

Welcome back everybody to the Glee for Dummies podcast where today we're going to be recapping

season four episode 13. Diva, one of my favorites of this season.

Snapple. What did you think?

I was good. One of the opening songs though, like the whole walking on the stage, like

the catwalk. The song was good. I just found it. I don't know. It didn't really engage

me. The, you know, what all the costumes are wearing. I was like, yeah, I don't know.

That's very surprising. That was a really good number. I thought it was a whole like

dream sequence of them. The number was good, but I just didn't really anything else.

I thought Tina Cohen Chang's song was quite good. Her outfit though, kind of like I know

she did the whole Madonna thing, but I don't know. But there's good stuff. And then I mean

Santana, of course, just crushes it all the time. Every number she did this episode, she

was kind of crushing. I mean, they did a whole announce it. So, okay, the person who

wins the Diva week, Tina, and I was like, okay, really guys?

Well, they couldn't give it a Santana. That would have just been...

That would have really pissed Tina off.

Well, and it just would have been like, so like, I know this whole show series is a lot

of fantasy, but it'd be like, that's beyond the pale. Like, come on. She doesn't even go

to school there. She's in college. She's like, she's a Diva of the weeks. Like, where's

your visitors past to be on school grounds?

Well, they let Puckin and then Puck started straight up dating a student. So, they're

clearly not really looking out for the students. I do like how on a Reddit page for this episode

somebody commented and said, by the end of this season, McKinley will be entirely staffed

by 19-year-old. And I don't know that maybe it's true. Maybe this is foreshadowing. And

it'll be like almost like a prison riot where they take over the school.

It's like the lunatics are running the asylum.

The lunatics are running the asylum. That's right. Before we get into it, I want to unrelated.

I want to plug. It's not even a... It's just a movie I want to see the other night. And

I really want everyone to go see it because it's so good. Ready or not to hear I come with

Samara weaving. It's like a horror comedy. And the first one was really good. And the second

one is just as good for people who like the first one.

Anyway, back into the episode written by Brad Fowl, checked directed by Paris Barclay.

And so his first episode he directed for the show was the wheels episode in season one.

And he was actually nominated at the Emmy Awards for outstanding directing for a comedy

series for this episode. So that says a lot. Official recap. Finn challenges the glee club

members to find their inner powerhouses for Diva Week. I'm up prepares for upcoming wedding.

We know what's going to happen with Finn and Emma.

Oh boy. That was that was the whole kiss too. Like oh god.

Okay. Fun facts. This is the eighth time an episode has a song of the same name in it.

Home, Dream on, silly love songs. Blame it on the alcohol. Born this way. I kissed girl

and extraordinary Mary Christmas. All featured songs with the same name as the title as well.

Dream on famously the episode had one of your favorite guest stars on the show Neil Patrick

Harris. Oh, he's coming back. No, he's not coming back. I'm talking about the past

episode because that episode also had the title of the episode name had that song featured

in it. And obviously that's one of your top songs from the show is Dream on with Neil Patrick

Harris. That's safe to say. Holly Holiday will be coming back in one season. Very nice.

So she'll be coming back season five for the series 100th episode.

Oh, very nice. So it'll be a big deal. In eighth song, Dancing on My Own was going to

be sung by Brittany, but was cut for unknown reasons. But you can find the audio recording

of it online on YouTube. Filming for this episode ended up being overlapped with filming

for the next episode. So they had to do everything kind of in the two-week period. So that

I think that would as an actor would confuse me because then I'm like in the mindset of

something that I'm still acting out for the previous week, it would confuse me. But I'm

also not an actor. So that's probably there you go. They're, you know, the professionals

they get in the zone. They're able to focus, compartmentalize or probably don't get. Yeah,

if anything, this episode was great, but I'm excited for the next one because that's

not fit Will and Emma's wedding. So everyone's going to be there. Santana's arrival scene

in New York parallels Rachel's from goodbye. They both emerged from train station examining

their new surrounding in awe. And they're both wearing coats and berets. Alla, Mary Tyler

Moore. This episode drew a 2.2 rating with 6.03 million total viewers. What is 2.2 rating

at a 5? Oh, okay. So not really that great. No. Pretty low rating for this. But yes,

so. The director won an award for directing. Well, I think rating is not based on directing

alone. It's based on the actual writing of the episode. You could do a shit movie and

then the directing like, whoa, camera shot. Amazing. I suppose. This is a tribute to artist

known as divas. Also, Ryan Murphy stated via Twitter that this was a tribute to diva

week to Beyonce in which she is one of the diva artists attributed in this episode. This

is the second time that a diva off was featured slash occurred in a 13th episode of the show.

The first being come back where they featured a diva off between Rachel and Mercedes season

two. This is the first and only episode where Santana sings two solos in the same episode.

That's a crime. The first of only one, the first and only episode where she gets two

solos, she should have be getting two at least two solos every three episodes.

Hashtag. Justice for Tina. No, Santana. Yeah, I know. Where's the justice for Tina? She

doesn't get to size. But did Tina had a, she had a rough week. She had some, some things

happen. Darren Chris got very sick during filming. So it was written into the episode that

Blaine was sick too. Darren says don't stop me now is probably the hardest number he ever

did on Glee because he had 104 degree fever, well filming and was spinning around in the

leather costume. But it does work because there's a line in the song where it's like, no,

it's like a hundred degrees. That's why they call me Mr. Ferrin. So it's actually, it

makes sense. So that was very method of him to get a cold just for the number. That's

true. In fact, when I went to France after graduated law school with my friend Noel who was visiting

to a karaoke and I sang, don't stop me now. Then later I translated it all in French. So I

have it all in French as well. Wow. That was really good. And we won't get copyrighted for it

because it's translated. I will say though, I bet you didn't do the number in the little leather

daddy costume that Blaine had going on. Couldn't afford it. That's true. Well, you could have gone

fake leather. Oh, leather. Yeah, leather. Jenna Uskoitz said she and Daring Chris were nervous

about the vapor rub scene, but ultimately found it harder to read through than to shoot, which

makes sense to very awkward scene. I don't know how you could act through that. Yeah, harder to read

through than to film. I get that because you're sort of you're you're just reading. There's no

action going on in your mind is using all the work and you're like, oh, yeah, this is going to

be weird. And then all of a sudden it's like, no, no, this is just fine. Anyway, Diva is the

fourth of the six songs in the show originally sung by Beyoncé. This is the second of the three

songs by Beyoncé that were originally featured in her fourth studio album. I am Sasha Fierce released

in 2008. The others being Halo and if I were a boy and I'll tell you what, the if I were a boy

number, I think is a pretty powerful number. Freeblee, it's unique singing it after the boys at the

school are bullying her for using the women's bathroom. And then she has to use the men's one and

they're like harassing her and beating her up. Oh, that's not good. It's a really good number.

Not the beating up. No, not the beating up, but like the number just the emotion behind it is

very well done. So it's one of it's a very powerful performance. Mistakes, Blaine says he is a

gold star gay except for the one time he kissed Rachel Berry referring to Blaine on the alcohol.

However, in said episode they kissed twice. However, the second time he in Rachel Kiss, he felt

confident that he was gay whereas the first time he was questioning his sexuality. At the end of

the episode, Blaine states that Will and Emma's wedding is next week. Kurt also says that Rachel's

audition for Funny Girl takes place in three weeks. This would mean that girls and boys on film,

feud, guilty pleasures and sweet dreams all take place within a two week time frame, which does

not make sense. And those are the episodes coming up before Rachel's audition. So the timeline is

off there. And when he said maybe the one except for the one time he kissed Rachel, maybe he

meant like like one time as like a series, you know, two times in one series, but who knows?

Maybe who knows who knows? We've got three plots this episode. Plot A Finn challenges a glee club

to a diva off while helping Emma with her wedding plot B Brittany unique Blaine and Tina compete

in the diva off and then plot C Kurt gross tired of Rachel, which let's be honest, that's been a

long time coming. Then a long time coming. So for the Santana stuff and all that, we're going to

mesh that into plot B just because it relates to Brittany. Plot A is going to be a bit shorter,

because obviously it's just about Finn and Emma, which I don't know why they did that, but they

did it. They made a choice as writers to really beef up the drama this episode or at least beef it

up for next episode. So I hope it goes somewhere because it was feeling a little forced. The kiss.

Now the whole him helping her. Like the controversy, the, you know, the competition to speak.

Oh, okay. So Emma tells Finn that she's worried about the wedding and Finn is like, well,

when will coming back because he's still in DC, right? And Finn is also worried that he might come

back and take over the glee club and Finn won't know what to do anymore, but Emma said not to worry

and that he's been doing a great job. And he's kind of concerned about regionals and he doesn't

know how to get them ready. And then I think it's Emma that suggests, well, why don't you do

like a competition? Because usually those, you know, those go really well for glee club. Like when

you've done an internal competition, they tend to really bring out all the stops and it's a really

good way to build up the kids confidence. So he said, I think Emma suggested Diva Week and he says,

you can be our guest celebrity judge. And Emma does her whole little talk to the glee club.

She's like, a Diva is to find an urban dictionary as someone who does not take no shit or something

like that. I wish you would have brought pamphlets, but I know she should have brought a pin. So you

want to be a Diva. And then that could be what the pamphlet says. And so of course they, they're

arguing out, you know, how you have to be a girl to be a Diva. And it's like, well, no, you don't

because Blaine's like, boys can be Diva's too. Yeah, discrimination against men. Yeah, it happens a lot,

doesn't it? Oh my god. Okay. Anyway, um, so Emma is very worried about the wedding, but

Finn is hoping that by having Emma help, it'll help her, you know, not worry too much.

But then we get to Emma in her office. And you know, she's showing Finn the flower. She's like,

what do you think about the centerpieces? Because Finn goes to her to talk about Brodie and Rachel,

because Rachel has changed her Facebook status to Shaqt up, which really concerns him because he's

like, oh, that kind of sad. Like, I haven't even moved on yet. She's already moved in with someone new.

Um, and while they're talking, Emma asks about centerpieces, and it's kind of a weird

flirty moment that's very uncomfortable where she shows the two centerpieces. One is blue,

and one is white, and then Finn's like, you know, blue is sad, but the white one is pure like you.

And I was like, I don't think that was so flirty. I thought it was innocent, but then it was like,

whoo, that went weird. I think I thought it was flirty because I knew the kiss was coming.

Oh, spoiler alert. So, well, you know what's happening now, but I think that's why I viewed it

differently. Maybe. Um, so he's really trying to help her, but then he comes to her office later,

and she's full on panicking because there's so many things to be done for the wedding. And

apparently she called a whale about the centerpieces, and he said they were fine, which triggered her,

because she was like, fine is not good. Fine means he's just, you know, doing what I want,

and I want his input, blah, blah, blah, and she's in a full on, like she's having a panic sack almost.

So then Finn tries to calm her down and ends up kissing her right on the lips.

I know. I don't know where that came from. That was pretty crazy. It reminded me of the

episode of Teen Wolf, where Styles is having a panic attack and Lydia kisses him. It was a big

deal for fans. They're like, oh my god, they kissed for the first time. But then she explained,

it's because when you're having a panic attack, it helps to hold your breath, because when you're

having a panic attack, you feel like you can't breathe, but you're actually breathing too much,

like your hyper ventilating. So holding your breath can actually help reset your nervous system.

It was not that sweet in Glee, though. I don't think Finn knew that when he kissed her. I think he

was just kissing her to kiss her, which was kind of weird to me, because I'm like, she's also an

adult. She was your teacher, bud. Let's maybe. Oh, Glee goes across somewhere in the lines. Look at

Pock. He's actually a teacher, sleeping with students. I know. I know. It's one big orgy.

Not a good way. Not like in a 70s bounce. No, not in like the 70s way.

This is like a pure wholesome high school. He's not a wholesome high school. It's supposed to be.

The first episode you had the Christian girl get pregnant. Oh, I know. But that's the whole

thing is supposed to be pure and then getting pregnant. Okay, that can happen. But I mean, yeah,

just like again, you know, a teacher sleep with a student. That's got jail written all over it.

Oh, yeah. Well, I think the other thing too is where right as Finn comes in to talk to Emma,

I think like when he's talking about Brody and Rachel, she says, well, why don't you go ask out the

new mass substitute teacher. And of course, she's like 26 and Finn is like, I don't think I'm

going to ask out the 26 year old. I think I'm good. That's more realistic though, but she's.

Yeah, at least the 26 year old, there's a closer gap in age. But Emma is quite a bit older. Oh,

my dear. And he's the best man. He's the best man at the wedding. And he's doing this stuff.

That's not cool. No. So yeah, that's why I said that that was kind of the whole storyline. It's

just Finn kisses Emma. And it's not really a storyline this episode. But you know, it's going to be a

big deal next episode because it's the wedding. And we're going to see a lot of like craziness.

We're going to see some people hook up. Oh, maybe Rachel and Finn are going to get back at it.

He's with Brody. No, Puck is not at the wedding, which I think is for the best.

I don't think we need a whole storyline where him and Kitty are hooking up.

Yeah, well, he probably hook up with somebody else. I don't, we have a him and Kitty are dating.

You know who does hook up that episode that would shock you?

Santana and Quinn.

Santana and Quinn. Yeah. Quinn? Yeah.

What do you mean who's Quinn?

Quinn, I'm having drawn a blank here.

Your favorite character, Quinn. Oh, Quinn. Yeah, of course. There's only like Finn, Quinn,

party. They were a big fan. Frankie. The fun name. But yeah, so Quinn and Santana hook up

at the wedding. Huh. That's weird. Pretty crazy stuff.

And now let's talk about the diva off. Let's talk about the real meat of this episode,

which is the diva off. Okay. So they all, all the, so our four main kind of competitors

during this diva off are unique Brittany Tina and Blaine. They're the ones who really want to win

this. And they jump into a performance of diva by Beyonce, which great number. Very good

number. Yes. And I liked how they did a dream sequence on their backstage. And even though

they had Marley out on the catwalk with them, they still showed her in backstage being like,

shit on by the other ones because they had that whole sequencer is like, no, you're not doing

this right. And Marley was one of the poor like helpers being like, hated on, even though she was

still on the catwalk, which was weird. But I guess it makes sense because you don't really see Marley

as a diva. No. That's not really her character. Um, so after the performance, we see Tina and Blaine

in the hallway because Blaine's starting to get sick, which is not good because he really wants

to try and win diva week. And Tina brings them a little care package. And Blaine is like, I want to

prove that boys can be divas too. And then he transitions into like, they transition into his

performance of Don't Stop Me Now, which was really good. I really liked it. Yeah. A lot of good

energy. And I like that song. It's a great song. Um, so Blaine is, that's kind of Blaine's bit.

That's almost his like audition for diva week. I think they all kind of got an audition song,

but the thing is when you think about it, the only people who got an audition song for diva week was

Blaine Tina and Santana who wasn't even a part of the competition. We didn't actually see

Brittany or unique perform. Okay. Uh, so then Finn is talking to the class and he goes, listen,

great performance by Blaine. But I think we should have like an example by somebody who truly

embodies what diva should be. So all the way from Louisville, Santana Lopez and she comes in

and she does not push city limits, which is one of my favorite Tina Turner songs. So I was very

happy to hear it. Yeah. I can Tina Turner. Yeah, but we don't have to talk about Ike. No, you're

right. He was not a nice guy. That's why I said just Tina Turner. Yeah. Um, so she comes in. She's

in her Louisville cheerleader outfit. And Brittany is a little bit shocked. You can see like as she's

watching the performance. I also liked how they cut to Brodie's face and Brodie's face is like,

well, and I think it's just funny considering Brodie was one of the kids who got the show from

being on the Glee project like the actor. So these kids that signed up for Glee project,

they signed up because they had seen the first season of Glee and they were like in love with

the show. So can you imagine having watched Glee through seasons like one through three and then

getting to be on the show and getting to see like one of the stars of Glee and I Rivera do like

that number in front of you. Like I would be pretty star struck as well. So I think that it was really

funny that they zoomed in on his face there. Yeah. It was fun. Um, and then after the performance,

Brittany's like, that was great. But you also didn't tell me that you were here. And Santana,

you can tell us a bit English. She's like, yeah, I know. And you didn't tell me that you're dating

fish lips or you're doing Sam now. Yeah, both kind of petty. And Brittany's like, well, how did

you find out? And she's like, well, I just found it online. And then we cut to a scene and you've

got Tina on the phone. She's like, two words, Brittany, Sam, or Bram, or one word, Bram. And then

she goes, gotta go or Sydney. I know. And I was like, Tina, you little shitster. I know. You

little shit. So there's some drama there. But then Santana's like, well, it doesn't matter because

I have a new girlfriend and her name's Elaine. And it's one of the cheerleaders there. Which is

a bit awkward. And then Santana confronts Sam in the auditorium. And I'm just reading online.

The girlfriend of Santana was bribed. That was in the episode. I know. I miss that. You miss that.

I get mesmerized with this stuff going on. It always listen to the dialogue, sweetie. Okay. So yeah,

it's not so for people who were watching the episode as they followed along with us, you just

ruined it for them. First of all, well, they were little seen it by now. Well, maybe they're doing a

watch pause, watch pause. Oh, maybe. It would be a weird way to do it. But we can't put that

past. Hey, if they are that invested in our podcast, God bless. God bless. So it was not her actual

girlfriend. It was someone to Santana bribed so that she could show up with a girlfriend and make

Brittany jealous. I think was the goal. And so then Santana's talking to Sam in the auditorium.

And she explains, Brittany is only with you for revenge. She doesn't actually like you. And

Brittany will eventually dump you. And she pretty harsh about it. And Sam's like, Brittany,

Brittany doesn't know. Hey, Brittany is love. Like she's not doing that. She's cool. And like,

she's amazing. And then they sing, make no mistake. She's mine. Yeah. That was a good song too.

It was a really good song. I think cord over street released. He held his own, but it's really hard

when you're singing against a powerhouse like Naira Vera. She is quite good. I also thought that

yes, with regard to you know, Sam saying that about Brittany, I mean, he's spot on like she really

doesn't have any malloc in her body. Yeah, like she's not doing it for some sort of revenge plan.

She genuinely just likes Sam. And she's trying to move on. Especially I don't think Santana really

has a right to be jealous considering Santana is the one who dumped Brittany. I know. So I don't

know why Santana is playing this game. As I say, I don't like when people play these games. That's

right. That's going to be like my when I die, I want people to put them on my tombstone,

never played games. I wasn't playing games. So they have the whole, they almost have their own

diva off. There's a lot of duets happening this episode of just singing off. Yes.

And non singing diva off as well, right? Yeah, exactly. So Brittany is watching from the

corner like from the rafters of the auditorium, whatever you call that, the entrance.

And now, you know, I'm going seen by scene for this whole diva storyline. We're back to Tina.

And we're she's debating whether she should continue to go after Blaine.

And so she and she's not sure if people think of her as a possible diva. So Blaine says,

why don't you come over? We're going to help you find your inner diva. They come over. Blaine is

like, here's a playlist of some diva songs that I think would be really good. And the cough medicine

makes some drowsy. And he falls asleep on the bed. And Tina thinks he's awake. And she has this

whole monologue where she says she's in love with him. And she's like in tears. And I'm like,

Tina, this is like really sad for you. Like Jesus. She needs a pamphlet from Emma Pillsbury.

She needs to go after. So I'm in, so I'm in love with somebody who will never love me back.

Well, they had, they had a pamphlet like that when Mercedes and Kurt went to see Emma. And then

I think it was like me and my hag or something like that. She had these pamphlets for the two of them.

But Blaine falls asleep. Tina realizes she didn't hear any of it. So she takes the VIX VAPO rub

and rubs it on his chest. Yeah, the junior sister was called that VAPO date. VAPO rape.

VAPO rape. And that's actually a term coined by the show. That's going to come up later where Kurt

confronts Tina is like, why did you VAPO rape my boyfriend? Oh, boyfriend, they're going to get

back together. Well, they never really broke up though, right? Like he was mad about the

cheating, but they didn't really break up. And then he came over Christmas and they had their

romantic moment. Yeah, that's true. So it's not really clear where they're at. All right, all right.

They're soul-finding themselves. I think they're broken up because he's also with that British guy

from Adam's Apple, but I think like when they come back together, they're going to hook up.

Okay. They're one of the hookups next week at the wedding. What? Yeah. My own learn.

I know. So basically she vapor-wapes him and she feels the need to straddle him while she's

doing it and then cries softly as she does it. It was those tears that tripped on the VAPO rub. Oh my

God. And sat in the tears and the vapor rub mixed and that's what healed him. It was it was

something else. I was like cheese Louise. It was it was not it was really uncomfortable to watch.

That's why I probably got not very good ratings because of that whole storyline. No, they should

have one of them. They just can't keep forcing stuff. They should have moved on from it. Like it's

like Blaine's gay. We've accepted it. You guys are best friends. Just accept your friends and move

on. Yeah. And then after this, Santana goes to see Sue in her office and Sue reveals that she

knows that Santana dropped out of Kentucky. And apparently Santana says, I don't want to be cheerleader

my whole life. I don't like it. And so Sue suggests, I need someone to take her with cheeries when I

die. So I'd like to offer you the position. And during this whole exchange, one of my favorite

lines of the episode is when Santana goes, you know, I dropped out. I didn't like it. And she tells

Sue, please don't tell my mom. And Sue responds by saying, Oh, I can't. I don't speak Spanish.

No, no, that was funny. And Santana's mother speaks perfect English.

For Newella. Newella. Buella. Abuela is Grandmother in Spanish. Her abuela doesn't speak English.

Her abuela does speak English. Her abuela likes Nutella.

No, she does speak English. And speaks English. Okay. That you almost had that rhyming.

And so Santana is like, Yeah, I'd love to do that. So she takes off that. She takes up that

position. So more than 19 year olds being hired. Nice. You'd think the Board of Education would do

something. But yeah, it looks like you don't need any higher education. Just like awesome.

That's right. Well, it's extra curricular. So I guess not. And so then afterwards we see

Tina in school talking to Blaine. She confronts Blaine. Blaine's like, Oh, Tina, your

your care kit did wonders. I'm feeling so much better. Oh, and your vapor rubbed. I somehow

went through all of it. I don't know how. And I have a tingle below the equator. So weird.

Oh my God. Can you imagine there's like a cut scene where she like took his rectal temperature?

Like, let me help you. And the only reason I say it is because I've been watching so much of

the pit. And I didn't realize they take the they take the patient's rectal temperature above

all else. What? But yeah, like adult because you get the most accurate reading. Yeah, I know,

that's still anyways. It's just that's what I thought of when Tina was being the caregiver.

It was very nurse ratchet. I was like, Oh, Blaine's gonna die. Yeah. Yeah.

So but Tina tells Blaine off. And she's sort of like, you know, I'm a diva and you're ungrateful.

And she jumps into hung up by Madonna, which I really like this song. And everybody loves it.

And they're like, yeah, Tina. And then they get to the glee club and everyone's kind of done their

diva auditions. So they're finally going to announce the winner. And they announced that

T-01 and everyone's cheering for it. It's really beautiful. What I love too. One of my other

favorite lines is Brittany. As everyone's cheering for Tina, she goes, she never wins anything.

I know. I know. She said it like full smiles like, yay for Tina.

Hashtag justice. Hashtag. Tina got her justice, I think. I think we're good with Tina now.

About damn time. So afterward in the hall, Blaine gives her flowers and apologizes for being

ungrateful for what she's done to him, which I don't really think we needed that scene. It's like,

I don't really think he was being ungrateful. I think Tina's just sad that he doesn't like her back.

And she took it out on him. But he asked Tina to be his date to Will's wedding.

Obviously platonic, but knowing Tina, she'll probably think of something more of it.

Oh yeah. She'll like get all hung up.

Like the song. Whoa. So yeah. And then as well, Brittany goes to see Santana in the auditorium

and reveals like, I'm not going to break up with Sam. And I also know that you don't actually have

a girlfriend and that you bribed her and you dropped out of school. And Santana reveals like,

it's actually hard in the real world. You don't get it, Brittany. And Brittany is like,

why don't you go to New York? Like you wanted to go to New York. You still have that money that

your mom saved up for you. And she told you to go to New York. And a hashtag spoiler alert,

that's going to be one of my favorite lines where Brittany says, I think you need to be somewhere

that's as big and as hot as you are. That's right. It's okay to follow your dreams. The sun.

That's right. Next season, Santana goes to space. Cool. No, that's not. Okay. So

you know, she tells Santana like, you got to go do this. So then

Brittany leaves in Santana sings girl on fire. But as she's singing, it's kind of like she's

through the hallway. She's transitioning. She's watching Brittany. But it's kind of her way of

saying like, goodbye to Brittany for now and being like, I have to, you know, move on.

Because and then she like leaves and then she's in New York. And it's a really nice scene. And

then she just knocks on Rachel and Kurt's door and she goes, I'm moving in. I know.

Exciting. It's exciting. But if I was Rachel and Kurt, I'd be like, we're going to have to discuss

this. Well, but for the fact, given the circumstances that Kurt is so tired of Rachel,

he'll be like, come on. Yeah. Because at least with you, I expect you're going to be a diva.

And at least you're kind of sassy. And I can push back where is Rachel. You're just like,

you're just annoying. It's not even that he knows Santana will not put up with Rachel's shit.

Yeah. That's what it is. He's like, I need someone to put Rachel in her place and you're the

best. And he can't do it because he's, you know, he's weak. He is weak. Santana has the strength

of 50 men. That's right. Both Rachel and Kurt need to be put into a gunny sack like kittens

and throwing into the river. You see, we were having a fun, like, you know, a fun

volley there. And then you went one step too far. Sweetie, let's not do this. Okay. So Santana's

moving in. And I'm really excited because like I told you, you said you weren't really into the

New York storylines, but this is very much a turning point for the New York storylines because

this trio, they have a very fun dynamic. Santana, Kurt and Rachel, I'll live into other New York,

is super fun for me. I love it. And I love next episode, especially because they're snowed in

or next, sorry, episode after. I won't spoil it. Sorry. But I think this whole thing and they

should, they become an unlikely friend group. And it's just very, very fun for me. So I'm excited.

Which friend group is this? Santana, Kurt and Rachel. Oh, yeah. Okay. Let's see, I already spoiled

that now. No, I did it. Yes. Oh, my God. Okay. Anyway, that was the deal off. Let's get into our

New York storylines. Let's talk about Kurt finally growing the balls to tell Rachel off.

Yeah. And that, I mean, he always has been able to. I don't even know about growing the balls.

It just, he's just very forceful now. I'm like, yeah, good. Yeah, I think that Rachel needs it.

Though Rachel needs to be told off. And I'm happy. So basically it opens with a Kurt voice over

about how Rachel, ever since she won the Winter Showcase, she's had this huge ego and he needs,

she needs to be knocked down a peg and he's, he's the person who has to do it. Because she's got

these like two guys who have been following around like Rachel, you're amazing. Oh, my God, Rachel,

you're the best. And I'm like, oh, my God, this is the kind of enabling that we don't need right now.

Those two guys need to go into a gunny sack and throw in the river.

Well, they're so fake too. They're too faith because then when Kurt wins the thing, they're like,

current, let's be best friends. And he's like, no, bitch.

I know he's like, okay, and I will diva off on you and destroy you.

This is what happens at theater art schools. Yeah, they have a lot, they have midnight madness where

they sing theater songs to each other. So Kurt opens up to Rachel about how she's been acting.

And he kind of says, listen, you got to tone it down. But then Rachel says, you're just jealous of

me. And you're jealous that I was better at winter showcase. And you're jealous that I'm really

the reason that you got into Neata. And he's kind of sitting there like, whoa, excuse me. Pardon?

He's like, we, I was actually being really nice when I started talking to you. And now, now you want

to play. Yeah, she was, she was harsh, you know, so she deserved to lose that the diva off.

She did a little bit. She was being really like, she was coming in. And she just had this,

she was just thinking she was the best thing in the world. And I hate it. Like,

he, Rachel's up, Kurt wakes up, she, and she's doing these like vocal exercises in the kitchen.

And they have curtain separating their bedrooms. I would be done at this moment because then

Kurt gets up, Kurt goes, like Rachel goes, oh, hey, your wake. He goes, yeah, an hour before my alarm.

And the first thing Rachel says goes, oh, when you're in there, can you make me a little tea,

please, with some honey and lemon? You know, it's really good for my throat.

And then Kurt said, I just, I'm going to say the whole exchange. It's very funny. Kurt says,

sure, I'll just run down to the store and get you some. And Rachel goes, I'll take that as a no.

An incredibly rude note that deserves an explanation. Yeah, I'll give you an explanation.

Yeah. Yeah. Anyways, this, see, this little interaction, I don't mind so much because it's like,

okay, because it's, it's very true to her character. And they actually, you know, built up to

Kurt getting frustrated. And then, you know, reaching his limit. Besides, like, oh, this is good.

The straw that broke the camel's back. The proverbial, yes. The proverbial high note

that made his voice crack when he tried to sing it. Well, so what happens is Kurt kind of says,

you've been a nightmare. Rachel says he's just jealous. And she goes, just when we're getting close.

And Kurt goes, oh, we became close because you became tolerable. But now you've got that weird naked

boyfriend and that weird legion of sicko fans. Now you were like, you're, now you're, like,

you're annoying self-righteous Lima Rachel on steroids. Yeah, which actually is quite fair,

because she really has, like, turned into that. She has. But then instead of just accept, like,

I understand that she's on the defensive. But then she goes, like, you only got into

Neata because of me because Carmen knew we were friends. And that's why she let you audition.

It's like, Rachel, you begged and cried because you bombed your Neata audition. The only reason

she even let you in is because you stalked her down her house with Tina and said,

please give me a second chance. Yeah, that was harsh. You don't have to point it out. But he's

tracked her down. That's not the only reason he got in. He got in because he had talent.

I wanted to call though, you know, you stalked her, you know, he got in for talent. But, you know,

he groveled. I mean, have some self-worth, buddy. But then she crossed a line and says, you only got

in because of me. Whoa. Yeah, Rachel is the one who groveled to get in. And she's the one who stalked

and tracked down. That's what I'm talking about. Yeah. And next up the two, sorry. That's okay.

What I like about this is that Kurt's like, you know, challenges that are midnight madness

head to head. And Rachel goes, I wouldn't do that if I were you, babe. And, you know, we love a good

babe thrown in there. That is the epitome of sass. Yeah, that's the, uh, take that. That's a

finger snap. Exactly. And then of course, Rachel's like, no, because I already beat you in a

diva off. And that's when Kurt reveals what Rachel is not known for an entire three seasons,

which is that Kurt threw it. So in season one, Kurt wanted to do defying gravity. But Will said,

no, we're going to let Rachel take it because it's a girl song. And Kurt gets mad. He tells Bert

and then Bert comes in and he's like, I will sue the school. My kid gets a chance to audition

for the song same as anyone else. So Will's like, okay, we can both will hold an audition.

All right. And the challenge is that we don't know if Kurt can hit the high, high F. And he finally

hits it. And it's very exciting. But as he's like hitting the piano keys and practicing it,

that's when Bert gets a call at the tire shop. He goes, uh, you know, humbles tires and lube.

And then somebody on the phone, it's a prank. He goes, your son's an F slur. And that's when

Kurt finds out that his dad is being harassed over the phone. So he's like, he throws the competition

because he doesn't want his dad to get harassed more because it's, he thinks it's hard enough with

him having a gay son. And Rachel believe that she's very shocked when Kurt says that.

And Kurt goes, I don't believe you take that back. And Kurt's like, I can't, it's truth time.

And Rachel goes, that was my first big win. That was the foundation that I built all my confidence

on for the past two years. I was like, Rachel, you've had so many other wins. Why are you letting

this one thing define you? You're kidding. Time. Well, when that gets knocked out,

that's holding her up. She's going to fall big. That whole exchange I loved too. Like that whole

thing was amazing. I honestly, one of my other favorite lines is probably like Rachel going like,

I wouldn't do that for you, babe. Um, so they're going to do midnight madness, which essentially

is a tradition at Neato where they break into the school. And they do, I guess, a sing off

because why not, right? And it's Neato's version of Fight Club. And the winner gets bragging rights.

So really big moment there. And they get to midnight madness. And the songs they're going to do

is bring him home from Lamez. And Kurt ends up winning by the closest margin of midnight madness

history. And Rachel's sick of fans ditch her. And they choose Kurt side too. And Rachel's kind of

shocked by that. She's like, what? How dare you? I thought we were actually friends. It's like,

Rachel, no. Um, and Rachel is devastated. And Kurt feels really bad because Rachel is now like,

her confidence is shot. And they're, you know, Kurt's like, hey, uh, why don't you audition for

Funny Girl, right? Because they've announced in the beginning, they've kind of been dropped hints

that they're doing a revival of Funny Girl on Broadway for the first time in a very long time.

And those sick of fans at the beginning, we're telling Rachel, you've got to audition because they're

doing like a open audition. And at the end of the episode, because our contrast, she doesn't want

to do it. But Kurt's like, you have to go, we'll both do it together. Like, this is, this is Rachel's

dream. This is what she's been working towards. Since the first episode of the show, she has been

a Barbra Streisand fan. She has wanted to be Fanny Bryce and Funny Girl. This is her dream. And I

love that they had the storyline because this is the thing people, you know, people think the Simpsons

predicts the future. There are people that think Glee predicts the future. Because this whole

thing about the revival at the time, this was 2013, 2014. And then back in 20, 23, 24,

correct me if I'm wrong listeners, they announced that they were doing a revival of Funny Girl on

Broadway in real life. And Jonah Hill, do you know that actor? His sister got the role of Fanny

Bryce. And the show was not doing well. Like, she was not doing well. And then Leah Michelle,

who plays Rachel, took over the role. And she crushed it. And people were like, oh my god,

Glee predicted the future. Rachel's finally getting to be in Funny Girl. And it was crazy. And

I really wanted to go see her. Did they predict the future? Or was it because her character

always talked about it and the seed was planted? That she would then be in it.

I don't know. I don't know a lot of, I don't know. I think it's just predicting the future.

Because if she was supposed to be in it, she would have gotten it right away, but they gave it to

Beanie Fieldstein. Never heard of them. It's a girl. And it's Jonah Hill's sister. I just said it.

Oh, okay. Sorry. When you say beanie, I don't beanie. No, those are name. I don't know what to tell you.

Okay. You know, if you name your kid like that, I'm not being critical, Beanie, but just

were you going to be anything other than an actor? I mean, that's a pretty good point. It's like when

you name your kid Jeeves, you know your son is going to be a Butler. Jeeves. That was good. I know.

Cue it up for that joke. No. Okay. I was going to reference the Kardashian kids. They've all got

stupid names. North, Chicago, Psalm, like a Psalm from the Bible. So stupid. These are all their

first names. I'm like, those kids are going to be in the entertainment industry because they've

got all got stupid names. Yeah, I guess you want to be that harsh though. What if we need the

Kardashians to come on this show and give us a plug? Oh, God. The Kardashians are fine. They're

doing well and they're not even good at being famous. They're just good at making. Hey, Kardashians,

when we say stupid names, like there's a little asterix next to it. And then you see the footnote

is like, this is playful. Nothing was meant by it. Well, the thing is they named the first kid North

because that was when Kim was married to Kanye. So then the kids name would be Northwest.

But now Kim wants to change all the kids' last names to Kardashian because of all the Kanye stuff.

Okay. And then she was doing this whole story I saw on Instagram. She was like, I just knew

Kanye was not doing well. Like I had two Lamborghinis that I bought. And then I came home and

Kanye just gave them to his friends. So I did buy another two Lamborghinis. Oh my God.

And I'm like, is one of the kids name South? No, but that's what the next kid should be named.

South West. And then the hyphenated airlines, Southwest Airlines.

Oh, Southwest Airlines. Well, you could do Southwest Airlines and then change your name,

last name to airlines. So you could do a hyphen last name, West Airlines.

Not as funny as it makes sense. Now you've got an uptruck, geez. How old now?

You were the, okay. Listen, so Kurt tells her like you try to talk her enough to ledge and

those little psycho fans come up to Kurt and they're like, you should audition for Funny Girl.

You'd be a great Fanny Bryce. And it's like, I don't know if that's an insult or not, who knows.

And then Kurt kind of tells them off. And he's like, listen, you guys are desperate. And you guys

are just looking for somebody to hang your star off of. And you guys are pathetic.

Hit your wagon too. Yeah. Start to hit to which you, to which your wagon. Hit your wagon, yes.

Yes. Well, what happens is then he's like, and if you guys keep this up, I will challenge you

guys to midnight madness. And you guys know that you're going to lose. And they're like, fine.

But then he has a really nice kind of talk to Rachel. And he goes, you are a diva. And you have

been a nightmare, but you're not a diva because you're a nightmare. You're a diva because you're

talented and ambitious. And because no one else in the world can do what you do, Rachel Berry.

Yeah, that was kind of nice. That was very nice. And I don't really know if it was as well

deserved because she was kind of being a bitch the whole episode. And then all of a sudden,

she loses and then she gets knocked out for high horse. And Kurt's like, oh, I guess I got to be

bigger person again. Build her up. But yeah. And then so I think Rachel's going to audition for

funny girl. And he got her a call back. So in three weeks, I think they said she's going to be

auditioning for the role of Fanny Bryce, very big deal. And then the episode ends like we said with

Santa and knocking on their door. And that's the episode. Yeah, very good. And the next one's going

to be good with Santa. I'm looking forward to it. Well, the next one's the wedding. So we don't

actually get to see her in New York yet because the next episode is all wedding. But we're building up,

we're building up. The next episode is also very good. And we have a former, not a winner,

but a contestant from the Glee project who comes on the show as somebody who Emma wants to set

already up with for a date. And she shows up. And she's in a wheelchair. This is important in

arties and a wheelchair. She says, oh, god, she set me up because you're in a wheelchair. I'm good.

And she's like, I don't need to be set up with the wheelchair kid. Like, that's just like

you're just saying, yeah, exactly. And but then they hook up as well. So everyone is hooking up

at the wedding. And it was during, it was their Valentine's Day episode too. So now,

what's your best outfit? You sent it to me. It's already my best outfit. Blaine's fur in the

diva number. All right. I'll give you that. I was quite the look. I'll give you that one.

Quite the look. What do you think? I don't know if anything really stuck. You said, oh, I mean,

maybe on the hung up number, not Tina, but the rest of the dancers, I thought the backup and

on the advocate, or I thought those were good costumes. And they kind of blended it in nicely.

Yeah. Oh, with that. Those were good ones. Good. Best line. Best line. Stand by.

As you know, mine was Sue telling Santana. Oh, I can't. I don't speak Spanish in reference to not

telling her mother that she dropped out of school. Yeah. I had that one and two. And then, of course,

because we'd already talked about it. I took it out. I'm gonna go with Brittany. I'm not

breaking up with Sam. I really like him. He makes me feel really smart and think about things

like where air comes from. And how come in every movie about Jesus? He dies at the end.

You could also do, I wouldn't do that if I were you, babe.

I don't know. That was really good. I really liked that. That was some sass from Rachel.

Best song. Oh, gosh. Well, girl on fire. Not just because it's Santana, but her voice, man,

she just crushes it. But then I also went with the hung up because it, but also for the outdoor

dancing. And I just like that song. Yep. And I thought that diva was good song too.

I am going with nubbush city limits. It's just so good. And I got to tell you Santana crushes it.

So wait. Oh, yeah, because she got two of them right, right? Yeah. So there you have it.

roughly 11 seconds, which is insane. And Emma sings it. And it's really, really good rappers can't

even do that. No, they can't. Can you imagine Eminem? He guest stars on this. He guest stars. And
