Ruweng Attack Kills 169 in South Sudan

Officials say the victims included 90 civilians like children, women, and elderly folks, plus every nine security forces and senior leaders. The Ruang Information Minister blamed dozens of young fighters from nearby Unity State, tying them to the opposition group SPLA-IO. That group denies it and accuses local leaders of stirring up politics around the violence. The assault hit before dawn, catching people asleep, and lasted three to four hours with homes and markets set on fire. 50 others got wounded, and most are getting care in the neighboring Abbey area.
