Despite no prior heart issues, George Collier collapsed after running strong for the full 13.1 miles. Three NHS doctors who happened to be nearby jumped in right away. Dr. Greg Meller, Dr. Ben Strahan, and Dr. Helen Nudol performed CPR on the spot, restarting his heart without needing a defibrillator. They called for an ambulance, too, saving his life in those critical moments. George ended up at Adam Brooks Hospital first, then Royal Papworth, where tests showed no abnormalities. Still, doctors implanted a cutting-edge cardioverter defibrillator called the Aurora EVICD, led by Dr. Meller himself. This new device sits outside the heart, avoiding wire complications and lasting years longer on its battery. The cause remains a mystery, but experts note that up to 25% of survivors
