A 19-year-old apprentice electrician named Ruby Renee Voss says she's the happiest she's ever been in her new career. She started her level 3 course after discovering her passion during summer jobs, helping her dead, who runs a trades company. Now, she's urging more women to jump into the field, despite it being mostly men. Ruby worried at first about standing out or facing different treatment on job sites. But everyone welcomed her right away, and she quickly felt right at home. She loves how varied the work is, from homes to big commercial and industrial projects, and finds it fun and rewarding every day. Her quick rise has already turned heads. She's appeared on a BBC DIY SOS episode, competed in events for women in electrical trades, and is a semi-finalist among 37 others in the physics. Group fixed trade apprentice 2026 contest out of over 3,000 applicants. She's also Lester College's apprenticeship ambassador.
