Romania Rejects Nuclear Hosting

Romania's President Nikosor Dan made it clear late Thursday that his country will not host any nuclear components in the medium term. This comes as a direct response to France's push to expand its nuclear deterrence and team up with European partners. Earlier this week, French President Ammanuel Macron announced plans to grow France's nuclear arsenal. He also floated the idea of letting European allies host French warplanes for nuclear missions. France and Germany have set up a nuclear steering group to talk deterrence. They plan to kick off real cooperation this year. Countries like Greece, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden might join French nuclear wargames. Romania got an invite to those talks too. President Dan stressed that Romania, as a NATO member, stays under the alliance's nuclear umbrella led by the United States.
