Rogue Builders Jailed for £93k Scam

0:00On March 20, two row builders have been jailed after scamming a homeowner near York out of nearly 93,000 pounds. Patrick Joseph Connors and John Joseph McAvoy targeted the man with unneeded roof repairs back in late 2021. Despite him saying no from the start, they pushed ahead anyway. The pair showed up at his door in October 2021, claiming his fascists and softwits needed fixing. Over the next few months until December, the victim, who lived alone, made 24 payments totaling that huge sum. Police got involved after a tip-off in January 2022. The early 60s homeowner felt intimidated by their tactics and experts later confirmed the work was shotty and mostly unnecessary. He's gotten about half his money back from his bank, but the financial hit remains heavy. At York Crown Court this week, 44-year-old Connors from Bristol got five years behind bars, while his 34-year-old partner, from, carded for three years, both pleaded guilty to fraud charges.
