Speaking of legends, joining us right now on the show from the field of 68, our good friend, the great Rob Doster on Twitter at Rob Doster. My friend, happy March. Welcome to the show. Nick, first, I got a couple things I got to say. Number one, it is finally nice out. It's 70 degrees out here in Jersey today. The sun is shining. The birds are chirping. Spring is here. I can walk outside in the t-shirt and shorts. The vibes are immaculate too. The bumper music that I had coming in, I don't think I've ever felt better about my life than I do

13right now after that moment. And three, I'm just fired up that you matched my vibe check today with the solid black tea. It doesn't get better than this, Nick. I'm here. I'm on you better, you bet. Nick Costas invited me on a show. Let's go, baby. March is here. Let's get this done. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like we invited you to come on a bunch recently and you turned us down a bunch. Is that true? That's what bills are. I never, I never got a text. I never got a text. So I don't know what happened there, but I've been waiting. I've been sitting here waiting with baited breath. All I've wanted to do all year is talk with you, Nick. And I'm finally, I've got, I've been stuck with Brad Evans. You stuck in that effort. I will say that we have a double A, man. I'm going to miss the big stuff. I'm going to miss the big. You sent me double A. We do love our guy, Brad Evans, but there is a difference between the New York Yankees and Scranton Wilkes Bar. I will say that. We love our guy, Brad Evans, but I can't disagree with anything you're saying there. Brad is the best brand and I will be doing some tournament shows together. All right, Rob, you've been crushing all season long and I say it when Goodman comes on,

15we had John Martin on the show last week. If you're a college basketball fan, like I don't get paid by them to say this, I have no affiliation with the field of 68. They just do awesome content. If you love college basketball, I would highly recommend checking out their stuff. It's college basketball talking people that love college basketball. You should use that and then give me royalties when it takes off. So I know that you've got a lot to say about what happened this weekend. We'll spin it forward and talk some of the conference tournaments in college hoops. I actually want to start Rob with Duke. So Duke beats North Carolina on Saturday night. I ended up placing a small bet on Carolina. Shout out to them for covering the spread. I think you had the other side in that game. We don't have to get into that. But Duke, this could be hurt. I don't blame you. This could be, I don't know if it's like the definition of Peerick victory. That probably would have been if Campbell's are had gotten hurt. But Duke loses Foster, Gangbos hurt. We don't know if either is going to play probably not in the ACC tournament. If this stretches into the NCAA tournament, I think Duke's got a big time problem here. So I've teased it throughout the show. These two

15injuries for Duke. I think if they linger, could really hurt Duke. I'm NCAA tournament time. Where do you land, Rob, right now on Duke? Maybe the number one overall seed in the NCAA tournament, possibly without two players here, at least for ACC tournament play. Yeah, I don't think either of them are going to play in the ACC tournament. I'm pretty sure shy. If he didn't outright say he hinted to as much in the post game press conference after Carolina. The Foster injury is the one that I think is more likely to be long term. And the in Gangba one is the one that I think is likely to be more impactful. So I think the issue with you when you don't have in Gangba is one. He's six, 11, two, six, the really good rip protector and elite rebounder. And he allows you to play two different styles offensively, right? Like you play the drop coverage. You sit him in front of the rim. You funnel everybody to him and he just takes up space and gets in the way at the rim. He's very, very good at that. And then when you have Malik Brown in there, you're switching everything one through five. You're more aggressive. You're trapping stuff. So it kind of makes you a

19two different styles of defense that you play. Two different styles of defense you've got to prepare for if you're dealing with Duke. So I think losing in Gangba would be huge. Caleb Foster, this is not meant as a shot at him. But I think he's more replaceable because Caden Booser, I think, can do the job that Caleb Foster is asked to do. Caden Foster was a guy that should have been a McDonald's All-American top 25 recruit. Has at moments taken over games for Duke down the stretch. I think specifically the Arkansas game. I think he had 20 and I'm honestly 17 in the second half in that matchup. Caden Booser can make open shots. He can defend probably not at the same level, but at like 90% of what Caleb Foster can do. He can get you into your offense. He can run your sets. He's not going to turn the ball over. He's not going to beat you. And I think that with him on the floor, you can get close to what you would have with Caleb Foster. Now there's not as much depth. The rotation takes a little bit of a hit, but I think that you can survive it. As long as in Gangba comes back healthy by the second round, you don't even need him in the first round. They're not getting losing to a 16.

20Get him back for the second round. Let him get in over at them. So he's good to go for the sweet 16. And I still think they can win it. The biggest impact to me is on the futures, right? Like with Caleb Foster, I think there's an argument to be made that you could probably still bet on Duke. I don't know if the price has gotten to a certain point where maybe you don't want to, but now it's if you're going to, if you haven't bet on a future yet, one, what are you doing? Why are you waiting this long to invest in the futures market? And two, I don't think at plus 320, I think right now that that's a complete stay away from me. So you mentioned Rob that and by the way, Duke is the favorite to win the national championship right now. It shows sponsor Ben MGM Duke plus 320 Michigan plus 325. So let's play this out. Let's say that the Caleb Foster injury is long term for Duke. I think this sets up as such a fascinating like juicy real-life storyline, right? Where Campbell's is thought to be like a topic in the NBA draft. He's going to be the college basketball player of the year. And his brother, Caden, is kind of like not an afterthought, but is obviously not

23a star of the way that Cam is. And now if he's going to be thrust into his potential starring role, like starting for Duke, like engineering the offense for John Shire and the Blue Devils, I just think, you know, like what's a dynamic going to be like with the brother? I think this is absolutely fascinating. And I just want to make sure I have this right from you. I want you to slam this home. If Caleb Foster is out for the end, we don't know if that's the case, but if he is and Caden Booser's got to be kind of replacing him, you don't want to ding Duke that much. You think Duke can still win the national championship without Caleb Foster? I mean, it's a day, right? It's a step down. I think they can still win the national championship with Caden Booser as they're starting point guard. I think they are the favorite to win the national championship with Caleb Foster. If you look at, I think the biggest reason why is twofold. One, they have the size to be able to match up with any of these other teams in college basketball, right? Like that's the biggest thing right now. It's a little bit less. Do you have the best point guard or just a good point guard and more? Can your big match up with that front line that Michigan has, that front line, the Florida

24has, those big guys that Arizona has and Duke still has that as long as it can go back. And the other part of it is a lot of what Shire does offense, the way they kind of get their secondary shot creation is just through the stuff that he runs, the shots that he creates out of the offense, the ability that they have to identify the mismatch they want to exploit, the way that they are able to use what you are doing defensively against you. For example, in the Michigan game, right? If you go back and watch it, they run the same set three times in the last four minutes and it's just the flare screen where you have action on the strong side of the floor, the ball is in and gone with his hands and his camboos are setting the flare screen because they realized that Michigan was not switching off of camboos. So the one time they got that lob to Isaiah Evans, another time it was they threw the ball into Caleb Foster in the paint, the defensive claps, you kick it back out to camboos for an open three. So Shire is a good enough coach to create offense out of the stuff that he runs by identifying mismatches. So I don't think that the Caleb Foster, the way that would phrase it is this. I think Caleb

25Foster is his function is part of a system for Duke and he's more talented than cambooser, but I think cambooser can operate in that same role in that system. So Duke beats Carolina by 15 on Saturday night. Carolina loses Caleb Wilson for the season prior to that game. Like a top five pick in the NBA draft. And this is not a hot take. I'm sure, but just want you to say if you agree or disagree for people out there who might want to put some money down or obviously fell out of bracket, like Caroline is done, right? They can win like maybe want maybe maybe get to the sweet 16. If that, like are you crossing Caroline off the list here without Caleb Wilson? Yeah, I mean, I think you have to. They are they're a good team without him. They are not a team with final four upside without him. I mean, it's just it's the same thing with Texas Tech. They lost a first team all American JT top and like you just you have to strike them off the list of teams that can make it run to a championship because you just lost your best player. If cambooser got hurt for Duke, we do the same thing. If the axle got hurt at Michigan, we'd probably do the same

27thing. So it is what it is. It sucks that this is the way that it played out because this Carolina team had to me had the potential to be able to make some noise because they started figuring out Jaren Stevenson as a potential guy. The three Derek Dixon, the freshman point guard has really come along and they have with Vsar, Caleb Wilson and Jaren Stevenson the way that he's been playing of late. They all of a sudden had a front line. They can match up with those biggest front lines because of the length of the athleticism they put at the three spot. Their point guard situation figure itself out a little bit. It's to me, we have them right now as a five seed, right? In our bracket, that means they're going to play high point. They could end up playing a team like a South Florida, South Florida makes it. They are going to be one of the trendiest five 12 upsets that they end up on the five seed line when it comes to selection Sunday. It's unfortunate because with Caleb Wilson, it would have been really fun to watch the tar heels and March obviously that will not be the case. You better, you bet on this Monday, Nick Costos, Westwood on sports, hour guest, the great Rob Duster from the fields of 68. Jeff Goodman, last time he was on with us,

30said that my beard fade combination was better than Rob Duster's, but who is he to make such a comment? I would love to run through some of the conference tournaments, Rob with you. I will say I'm going to go I'm going to get a haircut in exactly three hours and 19 minutes. I'm going to take this clip. I'm going to play it for my styles. Good. And she's going to, she's going to get me right. So come back right now, yes, because I do need a trim. But in about four hours, I'm going to come back to you. I'm going to take a picture of the fade and we'll see what you have to say then. Yeah, because I got to be honest. This is like, you have like a February beard right now. Like it's March, buddy. Like we got to get in gear here. And I've known that on our friend Rob Duster will. So, you know, Duke's going to be without in Gangba and Caleb Foster for the ACC tournament. Duke is still a huge favor to win the tournament at Ben MGM minus 375. Any thought by you taking a team other than Duke to win the ACC tournament in about 30 to 60 seconds will hit some of the other conference journeys. Oh, yeah, Virginia. I love Virginia in this tournament. I think that they, they're on the better side of the bracket to be on when it comes to being able

32to make a little bit of a run here. And I think that, you know, I know they just got smacked by Duke, but I think that they match up really well with Duke. And when you take Caleb Foster in specifically in Gangba out of that game, I think it changes things for him. Virginia people don't realize this. The best shoplocking team in college basketball. And they have a front line with Tester Ritter and their bigs that can really go out there and make some noise. I'm in on the, the hoos. All right, so Virginia plus 750 the price right now at Ben MGM and the ACC tournament. I mean, this week's going to be, I mean, God almighty. This week is going to be so awesome. I'm looking Rob at the big 12 odds at Ben MGM and like B, BYU was 150 to one with maybe then I'm born overall pick in the J and the NBA draft and AJ debuts like Kansas is eight to one with Darren Peterson. She shows you how loaded this conference is Arizona. The favorite followed by Houston and Iowa state. Who do you think wins the big 12 tournament and why and toss in any money down on any of these schools here about 60 seconds for this one? I, I really like Kansas because this is played in Kansas city and this ends up being a Kansas home game. Iowa state always travels really well to the big

3712 tournament and I would probably stay away from Arizona and Houston because I think that we've seen Arizona and Houston in the past don't really worry about the conference tournaments as much. And with Houston, I'm a little concerned about their upside. I'm not going to lie to you Nick. Like I, this is not the same kind of build that we've seen from prior Houston teams. I think that if you have good perimeter defenders, they are so reliant on their guards being tough shop makers and like Kingston Flemmings is a stud. A manual sharp is one of my favorite players in college basketball. But they are, if it's a steady diet of tough jumpers that you need your guards to kind of create an isolation, I think that's a tough ask. And if you have people that can play defense on the perimeter, which Kansas does, which Arizona does, which Iowa state does, I think you've got a chance to be able to beat them. So I would probably be on Kansas or Iowa state. I'm going to tend to lead towards Kansas just because it feels like the most Kansas thing in the world would be to kind of limp your way through the end of the regular season and then come out and win the big 12 tournament. That's exactly what this team kind of does. So I like the Jay Hawks here.

38All right. So Kansas plus 800 the price right now at Ben MGM to the big 10 were Michigan. After it's win yesterday against Michigan State, Michigan the favorite at minus 125 Illinois and Michigan State follow Michigan and then it's Purdue brutal into the season for the boiler makers. Also, I'm not sure anyone on planet earth, I dicted to anything quite the way Jeremy, Jeremy fears addicted to kicking guys in the nuts. Like we saw yesterday again for Michigan state, just like an absolutely ridiculous scene there thoughts on the big 10 tournament. Also, like can Jeremy Jeremy fears needs a different name because every time I say his name, I want to call him Jeremiah fears like the New Orleans Pelicans rookie from last year in college basketball, your thoughts on the big 10. Yeah, it's almost like they're related Nick, you know, it's almost like they their brothers. I think Jeremy fears. I kind of love this villain arc. You know, I know that that Tom iso is kind of against it, but I think that Jeremy fears leaning into it with the way that he plays and what that Michigan state program, the toughness that kind

41of represent. I kind of love that he's turned into this guy that college basketball fans hate because of all the stuff that he's doing. So I think he should keep leaning into it. Maybe stop kicking people in the nuts, but leaning into this like villain narrative that he has is something that I think is it's a fun storyline. I think Illinois wins the big 10 tournament. I don't think Michigan really cares all that much. They've won the big 10 regular season. They got to get ready for the big dance. If you're playing on a Sunday, you play three games in three days, you're playing a Sunday, then you got to fly somewhere and maybe even play on a Thursday for the the NCAA tournament. I don't I think Michigan has bigger goals than mine. Give me Illinois. All right. So Illinois for Rob Dostner, SEC, Florida ending the year on such a tear, beating Kentucky over the weekend. Florida's minus 185 to an allotted conference that includes lights of Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky's 45 to one. What about the SEC, Rob? Any value there betting the SEC tournament? I don't think there's value there because I think that Florida rolls and I don't want

41to take that big of a favorite. Yeah, I think they roll, man. I you said a loaded SEC, I just I think everybody in the SEC is just okay outside of Florida. You know, Alabama does not have the front line to be able to deal with Florida. I think Tennessee, I would be very surprised and they've made a meant plays and without native men, I think that they are very limited. Arkansas is good, but if Darius A. Cuff has a bad ankle, are you going to play him for four games in four days? I mean, you're trying to get ready for a run on the NCAA tournament. So I don't think I don't know if we're going to see him. And beyond that, it's just it's kind of whatever in that conference. I think I think Florida goes through the SEC and wins every game by 15 points. I'm not going to take him a minus 185 that there's just that's not a that's not a number, but the but the number not the team, right? But I think Florida rolls in that. I saved the best for last. So for people that are unaware, Rob Doster, hashtag big Yukon guy. The loss on Saturday at Marquette is look,

42it's one loss. To me, it feels like this is a cry for help from this team. I just I don't see it with Yukon. You know, I started last Monday show, right? The first show that we did in the month of March by asking the audience. If you had to take the top four teams of the field, right? Arizona, Michigan, Duke, Florida, or the field, who would you take? And the people that responded the field, every single one of them had Yukon. Some people like Houston, maybe some like Iowa State, but Yukon was the first choice. Like if we're getting past the top four, Yukon is clearly the fifth team, right? Like the best team outside of the top four. I don't even know if I can get like, it just it feels like they are so inconsistent when they put it together. They're amazing. But where's the confidence that they're going to keep doing that? Where are you at here? You follow this team closer than anyone, Yukon heading into both the big east, where St. John's is the regular season champion and into the big dance for Danny Hurley and company. I, I will be grudgingly admit that I think you are correct. We've said all season long, if they figure this out, if solo ball

49starts shooting the ball better, if Silas de Henry figures out his turnover problems, if Terrace Reed can find a way to be consistent offensively, then they have an opportunity to be one of the best teams in college basketball. But if it is March, it is now March 9th. And we're still saying those same things. We saw those same question marks and same concerns. Like you are just who you are. You know, you've played 31 games this season and if you still have the same issues, now that we're talking about you had in November, you are what you are. You're a team that that can't handle the physicality and pressure that turns the ball over too much that makes dumb, undisciplined fouls and that has inconsistent shooters when your offense is built around creating open catch and shoot opportunities for those guys that are not making threes. They are what they are at this point. I'm still holding out hope that they can get it done. But I, I'll be honest, I cashed out my Yukon future. No, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, buddy. And I know that's not for you. It's a big Yukon guy.

51So if you had to take a team to two questions to close, 30 seconds for each, give me a team outside, if it's not Yukon, a team outside of the top four, that could not win four games and get to the final four, could win six games and win the national championship. And if the answer is nobody, that's acceptable. I think the answer is nobody. If you're going to, if I was going to pick anybody to do it, I think that it's Illinois because Illinois has multiple point cards. They have the size to be able to match up with Duke and Michigan and Arizona and Florida. Those got those bakes have the ability to step out and knock down threes. If you look at what Wisconsin did in that Michigan matchup, hold the big guys away from the basket with shooters, have guards looking into the rim and create that's kind of the recipe to win some of these games. And Illinois can do those things as well. Final question, 20 seconds for the answer. If you had to say that me and Brad Evans are NBA draft prospects this year, who would I be and who would Brad be in 20 seconds? Oh, uh, Brad Evans would be the guy that is the walk on at the end of the bench that declares

57in the joke because he thinks that it's funny when nobody, everyone knows that he doesn't have a chance. Uh, and Nick, you would absolutely be, uh, I think you would be H A to Bonsa, the most talented guy. He's going to put up a ton of numbers. It's not always going to lead to victories, but you're going to look good in the loss too. Well, we can't lead to victories here. I mean, I guess like I'll take the age of the Bonsa Cup and I'll tell you what, unlike Aaron Peterson, I show up and play hurt and we absolutely love that. Rob, you're the best. Add Rob Dawson around Twitter. Um, we've entered March and look again, like I have no affiliation with the field of 68, but I love college basketball and the work that they do covering this board. I think is second to none. Make sure you're following the field of 68 for all your NCAA tournament needs. My friend, thank you very much. We'll catch up with you soon. Nick, appreciate you, Mike. Make sure that beard. I'm going to make sure it looks like, uh, March ready coming up. Yeah. Yeah. Rob, Rob's a handsome guy. It looks a little ugly tonight. If I'm being honest, I got to get to get the beard rolling here from my friend, from my friend, Rob Dawson, great stuff from Rob. I love his thoughts on the conference tournaments. Where,

00I mean, think about it, right? Like the ACC tournament. Duke's a huge favorite. Duke is obviously the best team, but Caleb Foster and Patrick Gungbar aren't going to play for Duke in the ACC tournament. So do you want to take a shot at Virginia? Any desire to take a shot on Kansas, a plus 800 to win the big 12 tournament. If Arizona is not going to go all out to try and win, Arizona is going to be a one seed in the NCAA tournament. You know, do you want to get away from Michigan in the big 10? I thought Rob gave you some pretty compelling reasons. Why? And in the SEC, man, he said Florida wins every game by 15 plus. If that's the case, and if that happens, and maybe it won't be 15, but if Florida wins the SEC tournament, it is impressive doing so. Man, a lot of people, a lot of people. One week from today, we'll be talking about it on this show. We'll be picking and betting the gators to go back to back. Little more college basketball on the other side.
