A former jet-star pilot named Greg Lynn faces a retrial for the 2020 murder of 73-year-old Carol Clay at a remote campsite in. Victoria's High Country, the 59-year-old was convicted last year of killing Clay, but acquitted in the death of her partner, Russell Hill. In December, the Victorian Court of Appeal overturned the conviction, calling it a substantial miscarriage of justice, and ordered a new trial. Lynn appeared in the Victorian Supreme Court this week, seeking bail after nearly three years in custody. His lawyer argued for release, pointing to a strong, surety offer from Lynn's son, and no risk of reoffending, as even prosecutors agreed. The defense pushed hard for a long delay, saying any retrial before 2028 would be unfair to their client. They want a permanent stay of proceedings to avoid further issues. Mrs. David Beech denied bail, keeping Lynn behind bars. He noted that stay applications would go before the trial judge soon.
