Restored Memorial Honors WW1 & WW2 Workers

0:00On March 15, around 100 people attended a ceremony on March 14 to unveil a restored memorial honoring workers from the former TW, Lynch Factory who died in the two world wars. The event marked the return of a marble plaque listing 30 names from the conflicts to its original spot in Blackheath. The nuts and bolts factory operated for more than a century from the late 1800s until it closed in 2012. The plaque went into storage after that but was brought back to the memorial gardens at Carnegie Road and Newtree Lane. San Juan Mayor Steve Melia, let civic leaders joined by members of the Lynch family, former employees, and local residents. Many shared stories from the factory's heyday at the Excelsior Works. This rededication fulfilled the final wish of former chairman Robert Lynch, who died in 2020 at age 89. A condition of selling the factory land ensured the garden stayed intact for the memorial.
