REFOCUS | Genesis 25: 32-33 | I Can Say No

0:00It's that moment where you're like, if one more thing goes wrong, I'm going to lose it. I'm going to lose my mind. What's your tipping point, right? I think we've all been there. We've all had one. Well, and especially in the morning where it's like, okay, two or three things go wrong. It's like, this is it. This is my mood for the day. It's just a bad day and it's only six o'clock. If you're there, that's why we have the morning focus because I've been there and it's not a good place to be. We grant ourselves the truth instead of all of the things going wrong. Remind ourselves of who the Bible says God is and who God says that we are. And today we're looking at Genesis 25. Yeah, in the very beginning of the Bible, it's a story of Esau and Jacob. It says, look, I'm about to die. Esau said, what good is the birthright to me? But Jacob said, swear to me first, so he swore an oath to him selling his birthright to Jacob. Now, a little backstory on this, Esau is just dead tired. He's starving. He's hungry. Jacob has a bowl of soup that he proceeds to trade Esau for his birthright.

1:02Something that most of us are going to say is not worth it. That a bowl of soup. But how often have you let yourself get so overwhelmed, pushed to a point of exhaustion or this and that that you're willing to compromise on things that don't really have the impact you think they will? Susie Larson phrases it by saying, we tend to take shortcuts when we are tired and whereas yet we lose sight of the life to which our souls are air. If you feel like you're on a tight string where you'd be willing to sell it all for some soup or honestly a nap or maybe a break, it's okay. It's all right. It's an indicator for us of an overpacked schedule of areas where we're saying yes to things that aren't filling us up and the good news that we have and we look at Genesis 25, we have this reminder that we can say no.
