0:00On April 1, a 28-year-old man named Remis Lawrence Hayden just got hit with a 14-year prison sentence and a 12-year driving. Banned after causing a deadly crash in Birmingham, he pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving in Birmingham Crown Court last Thursday, March 26. Driving a stolen Ford Focus, he smashed into a tree in Bourneville, killing his 26-year-old friend David Brennan in the front passenger seat. The wreck happened shortly after 10.45 p.m. on October 2, 2022, on Lyndon Road near Cotteridge. Lawrence Hayden, who only had a provisional license back then at age 24, lost control going way too fast toward the central reservation, A, curb, and finally, that tree. Brennan suffered brutal injuries and died in the hospital despite treatment, while Lawrence Hayden walked away unscathed. He ditched the scene right after, getting picked up by another ride, leaving his friend behind in the chaos. Cops pieced it together quick, with CCTV showing speeds between 82 and 102 mph in a 30-mile-per-hour zone.
1:05Forensics found his saliva on the driver's airbag, his phone placed him right there, and a witness I deed him in a lineup. This reckless night cost a life in years behind bars for reflection, thoughts go out to Brennan's family as the road stays a little safer now.
