Rangers Snap Home Drought, Win 6-2 Over Leafs

The New York Rangers snapped a long home drought with a solid 62 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at Madison Square Garden. It marked their first regulation victory at home in more than three months, since beating St. Louis 3-2 on November 24th, a streak of 19 games without one. Joroslav Schmeller grabbed his first NHL goal and point in his seventh game with the big club after getting called up from Hartford on Tuesday. Will Kaile added a pair of goals, while Mika Zabana had and Alexis LaFernier each chipped in a goal plus two assists, mostly in the third period. Igor Shesterkin stood tall with 29 saves, both teams set out key players for roster tweaks ahead of tomorrow's trade deadline at 3pm. The Rangers scratched center's Vincent Trollcheck and Sam Carrick and Toronto did the same with a few forwards and a defenseman for the second night in, A-Roe.

Joroslav will stop 19 shots for the Leafs, who have now dropped six straight games, going zero wins, four losses, and two overtime defeats. Rangers improved to 24 wins, 29 losses, and eight overtime losses, while Toronto sits at 27, 25, and 11. The Leafs also shipped center Nicholas Roy to Colorado earlier in the day.
