Rams Eye QBs Garoppolo, Cousins for Backup Role

0:00On March 30th, the Los Angeles Rams are eyeing Jimmy Garoppolo and Kurt Cousins to beef up their back-up quarterback spot. Coach Sean McVeigh spilled this to reporters on March 30th. Garoppolo, who backed up starter Matthew Stafford last season, is now a free agent. Right now, only Stafford and Stetson Bennett are locked in under contract for next year. Stafford at 38. Just inked a two-year, $84 million deal and balled out hard. He led the league with 4,707 passing yards, 46 touchdowns, and snagged MVP honors with a sharp 65%. Completion rate over 17 starts. Meanwhile, the Falcons dumped Cousins after his 4-year, $180 million pact from last year. Cousins, 37, had a rough go in Atlanta, hitting 61.7% of throws for 1,721 yards, 10, scores and 5 picks in 10 games. Garoppolo barely saw the field last season.

1:01No passes in three games, but went 27 for 41 with two touchdowns in his one-star back-in. 2024 McVeigh goes way back with Cousins from their Washington days between 2014 and 2016. When he was offensive coordinator, Cousins was a fourth-round pick there, played 38 games and made a pro bowl. Rams need depth in that QB room, and McVeigh's made it clear he'd love Garoppolo back, while keeping tabs on Cousins amid his other offers. This could lock in a solid plan behind Stafford as the offseason heats up.
