Rams Draft QB for Stafford Succession, Pass on Brown

0:00On April 29, the Los Angeles Rams grab Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick in this year's draft. Instead of adding another weapon for Matthew Stafford, they went for what looks like the future replacement at the position. Stafford lit it up last season, hitting 65% of his passes for 4,707 yards, 46 touchdowns, and just 8 picks. He's been talking retirement for years though, and the Rams clearly saw Simpson as too good to pass up. Team brass keeps saying Stafford starts as long as he wants to play. But Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk smells tension behind the scenes, like they're already prepping for the switch. Rumor had it the Rams eyed Eagles wide out AJ Brown a month back, but they traded for all pro-corner back Trent McDuffy instead. Florio says medical checks revealed too much wear and tear on Brown, so they backed off. With the Eagles not moving Brown until after June 1st at the earliest, insiders like Nate Atkins say, don't count on the Rams circling back.
